Neal Schon is NOT an underrated guitar player to the people who know. The ones who know have seen his brilliance and versatility for many years. We love you Neal, Keep rockin brother!!!!
Yes! The man is a BEAST on the drums!!! I love the way he played the drums on "Hopelessly in Love/The Party's Over" during their concert live in Tokyo in 1981 especially at around minute 4:56. Look it up. It's great! (It's the version posted by EwerLord.) And BTW, Neal Schon KILLS IT on his guitar solo!!!!
I had the pleasure to seeing him up close with Vital information almost 20 years ago. He was a completely different drummer by that time, his fusion playing, albeit with less raw power which would of been inappropriate for the music, was still amazing to watch. And his solo was Buddy Rich level entertaining. He's 68 now I think, and I do hope In my dreams to see him and a week-long drum clinic in LA either this year or next.
Before pitch correction software, singers had to live or die in real time on stage. Steve Perry was the man, the voice--pitch perfect--nothing faked. Faking wasn't possible in those days (not that Steve ever needed to); this live recording, among myriad others of Journey, reveal a band without sequencers, triggers, computer aided blah blah blah--real music from a better vanished time.
Of course. I sing myself and am a tenor as well as Perry and can hit notes almost as high as he can. what made SP so incredible wasnt the notes that he hit but the passion and soul in his voice. Even in late 83 when the rasp started his voice was absolutely beautiful. If you watch his video ftlosm of him in NYC in 94,His voice was still top notch. If he came back today I think his voice would be significantly more weak in terms of his range but hed still sound better than 99% of singers imho.
No dislikes yet i see....i'm not surprised! Steve Perry's vocal talent is awesome.I've never heard anyone sing note for note perfect live the way he does...i could watch him all day...yum!!!
LOVE STEVE PERRY!!! He gives so much of himself in his performances! Nobody can touch his Emotional Delivery like he really is in the Moment! Authentic Feeling! Thank you !
I don't want to speak blasphemy and is not my intention, but when I hear these performances and how amazing the soul is put here, the smile in Steve's face just for the joy of singing, the grace in everyone of the guys in the band and the awesome music... I say, now I understand when Jesus said that NOW after he came, the heavens are opened. This is no joke and I mean no disrespect, but people honestly under apreciate the magic we had in the eighties, stadiums filled with TENS IF NOT HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of people, the grace of God was pouring from heavens and that's the way I see it.
But songs are like spells. They hypnotize the listener. So in one respect rock n' roll could be of the devil putting us all in a satanic trance. But i love journey and love my trance ;)
Wow.... one of my favorite songs ever. This was the lineup I got to see only one time. What talent, musicianship, tight, flowing, stratospheric, a master class. It Was like a revival, no one sat down. The next day in school, ears ringing, voice hoarse from cheering, arms and legs burning and sore from 2 hours of standing and stomping. Thanks Journey, for a lifetime of memories unmatched!
What a shame these historical moments did not get the royal recording treatment. A shame that we have not seen more pro-released Live show DVD's over the years either. I think we all are collectively shaking our heads over that lack of pro-level live concert videos.
Man, what I wouldn't give to have been born earlier so I could have been so fortunate as to see the original Journey perform! Nobody can replace Steve Perry! NO matter how hard they try or how well they think they are filling his shoes. What a lovely man he is! And the voice of an angel!
Neal Schon, the man is so under rated, makes me seriously doubt if there is anybody out there that really appreciates a true artist. Wow, he is a freak on the guitar, belongs in the top ten greats. This is how you do a live performance, all the up & coming and some that are already here, needs to take notes, leave them begging for more and send them home with "the amplifiers ringing in their heads" for days after.
*WHEW!* Steve's hair movement at minute 2:20!!! This man is gorgeous!!! (A phenomenal voice, too! *wink*) Also, Neal is kickin' butt on the guitar as per usual, but Steve Smith is KILLIN' IT on the drums!!! Love this!
This is the RAW unprocessed sound obviously recorded by the video production crew. No EQ, no effects (such as reverb, delay, chorus, etc.) so this is what a sound engineer would hear in the studio when recording vocal tracks prior to post-production processing, etc. And what I like is that rarely do you ever get to hear this. Can you think of any singer today who would want their raw audio to be heard by the public? 99% of this recording; Perry is spot on pitch. The tone is terrible, no low-end (bass) at all, so thus, sounds like he's singing through an old telephone.
This might be a very rare video. Came out in 1981(?) wow. This sound is off the Capture album. Also too, John Caine is playing keyboards. Might be the first w/o Gregg Rollie too.
steve and the boys you dont have a thing to prove cuz you tore IT UP right here. the best band that night and time. steve and neal were a great combo of pop rock soul!
i love it. thank you. Steve has the best voice. even though the music is there. his voice sure stands out and can handle the notes, on his own at that. you go STEVE PERRY
I live Neal's style. Easily my favorite guitar player because of his technique. Been listening to these guys since I was 6. I listen to them everyday and they NEVER get old. The party's not over until Steve Perry sings one last time!
Raw, unmixed (thats why the vox are so loud) sound board recording with no compression, reverb or effects of any kind plus a little distortion and yet it sounds amazing. You hear the real close up power of Steve Perry with no buffer. I cant think of another band that sounds this amazing on such a crappy mix... Maybe the Eagles back in the day but that is about it.
Can't say enough about this band that burst on the scene back in the late 70's that has the "Voice", a genius that plays guitar, and the rest that are accomplished master musicians, they are an extension of each other. A truly great band, their music will continue to touch hearts forever and has put its stamp on the annals of time.
Aunque ya hayan pasado muchos años ,de este stevy perry ,es muy lindo escucharlo una y otra vez y poder verlo Gracias por estos videos , 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏
Steve’s ALWAYS been the BEST!!! He’s on my bucket list to meet. The ONLY one I wanna meet. My oldest son lives in LA (a MD), & my youngest son lives in San Francisco. (Managing Engineer for Corp. Apple @ Apple Park), so I gotta see Steve sometime! I’m 10 yrs younger than him, but that’s just right! Steve...help me FIND you soon! 💋💋
Absolutely marvelous performance! One of my all time favorite songs... LIVE! At their peek, right around that time between Captured and the Escape! Interesting there's a white violin next to one of Steve Smith's kick drums, they all look cool, I love Steve Perry's leather jacket and white music shirt! Love this, thank you for sharing it!
This band certainly knew how to rock...AWESOME!...Well,they would be wouldn't they? With the best lead singer EVER!! No one could sing like Steve Perry!

Where is Greg Rollie? Small stage, not a big venue- Steve Smith is there so it’s 1980? The song info said Bammies 1980,,, they hadn’t started making any big dollars.
I'd forgotten how much I liked that performance. Everyone seemed really happy and just enjoying the hell out of playing. Great stuff, thanks for the reminder! I've had this on VHS for years but haven't watched it in a very long time.
You are quite right. As a trained vocalist myself, I understand the toll on one's voice that touring as Journey did all those years will have! I am only saying that there are many out there who think if Perry returned today, he would sound like he did back in 1980...and that is just not realistic at all. I do not dispute your assertion about Perry at this point in his career! :-)
Neal Schon is NOT an underrated guitar player to the people who know. The ones who know have seen his brilliance and versatility for many years. We love you Neal, Keep rockin brother!!!!
If u know u know
THERE IS ONLY ONE STEVE PERRY. 'nuff said
Enough said !!
You damned right.👊🏻🤟🏻
Okay. If you can find the band Departure on here take a listen. They are a journey tribute band and kick it
And Sam too
Steve Perry is the voice of Journey. Irreplaceable. Best vocalist ever. Love you, Steve Perry.
One of their most underrated tunes. So great. Never get tired of it.
Same😂❤ always loved it
I love how Steve Smith looks so comfortable and yet he’s an animal behind that kit. What an amazing drummer!
Yes! The man is a BEAST on the drums!!! I love the way he played the drums on "Hopelessly in Love/The Party's Over" during their concert live in Tokyo in 1981 especially at around minute 4:56. @@tammyf.7864 I could watch that part over and over and over again.

Well said Brett.
Still got the chops
That"'s correct brett
@@yanitzavelasquez5453 was is and ALWAYS will be the voice of JOURNEY
Love the Neal Peart quote in there ..."from a better vanished time" - Red Barchetta.
2:34....The way Steve hits the crash without even looking at it....he just knows EXACTLY where it is....pure badass-ery....
Of course. I sing myself and am a tenor as well as Perry and can hit notes almost as high as he can. what made SP so incredible wasnt the notes that he hit but the passion and soul in his voice. Those are exactly my thoughts. Is not his highs, but his passion! May we carry that passion in our hearts ourselves, someday they may hear us :)
Just came from the nyc ftlosm concert and couldn’t agree more. His voice was in increable shape at 45 there
As as Steve's special timbre.
Perry was a countertenor. Higher than tenor range. He could easily sing female alto range and even some soprano notes.
what's the proper technical name for that range? Tenor soltino? Same as Jon Anderson.
Neal Schon's guitar skills are so underrated by many. The man is unstoppable.
Best singer in the world nobody even compares to him his voice is beautiful perfection
Uh, how fine a guitar player is Neil Schon? Whoever captured this deserves a medal.
hey ty, i uploaded this years ago after the concert...........ty for viewing my footage
@@danielmadden1688 Nice play on words....this is from "Captured," their live album, I believe. Yeah, Neil ripped it back then. Miss this stuff.
I’m my top 2 !!! Lol.
He’s one of the all-time great guitar players and I think he doesn’t get the credit he deserves
No dislikes yet i see....i'm not surprised! Steve Perry's vocal talent is awesome.I've never heard anyone sing note for note perfect live the way he does...i could watch him all day...yum!!!
GREATEST VOCALIST OF ALL TIME - Steve Perry! Hello from Melbourne, Australia!
LOVE STEVE PERRY!!! He gives so much of himself in his performances! Nobody can touch his Emotional Delivery like he really is in the Moment! Authentic Feeling! Thank you !
The Power of Perry...there is no denying the greatness - best ever!!
Neil totally kick ass, nothing like classic Journey
Foreigner and FM are equally good !

This is one of my all time favorites. Steve’s vocals and Neal’s guitar, the best!
I simply adore Steve Perry!!!! ❤ Best singer ever!!!!
3:31 Neal’s solo with the variation on the intro riff is bad ass. He is tearing it up right here.🔥🎸
He's like the best of his generation. So fucking talented it sick. Cheers to Mr Neal Schon! Journey's music is timeless. Happy 2024!
Right surprised the guitars were not smoking 😂🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
What a shame these historical moments did not get the royal recording treatment. A shame that we have not seen more pro-released Live show DVD's over the years either. I think we all are collectively shaking our heads over that lack of pro-level live concert videos.

Man say it again...the dude is flawless...makes it incredible regardless.
And nonetheless Perry's pipes are their typical perfection.
Spot on .... this is the cleanest "dry" and unprocessed live performance that I've heard for a live band. You can hear the musicianship .... wow.
Billy Griffin Steve as always perfection!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 The VOICE!
