    Thanks for these “Basics” videos; definitely describes my skill level with Foundry!

    Awesome, thank you for making this! One thing that I think would be good to mention is that you can drag notes into other notes to create a hyperlink from one to the other!
    It's really convenient to link various notes, such as to make notes on how NPCs relate to each other, or linked notes about buildings in cities.

      D'oh! You're very right, I should have highlighted that functionality of journals. Might need to do a follow up or re-upload with that section included.

    Thanks for this, this is my first video of your site. It helped answer a couple questions I had on the subject.

      @baileywiki, is it possible to put a secret in someone's journal? If the Owner is assigned a journal, and I (as the DM) set a portion secret, will he still see the secret part or is that still not seen by him?

    • @Baileywiki
      @Baileywiki  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think secret text (a format option in the journal drop-down) is only readable with GM permissions. You should test of course!

      @@Baileywiki Thank you for the quick response, One last thing (I promise!),
      I still have a roll20 account that Im migrating stuff from and in the journal I set up links that led to journals that I archived which the system could read. You had shown how links to the web work, does linking also work to other journal entries and how would that pathway be set if so?
      For example, I set a link to the religion of a specific Human nation that led to that human nation's journal entry.

    I like the Permission Viewer module for being able to see at a glance who/if anyone has access to things. It changes the permission glyph to a color-coded indicator based on the player color.

    This video is a bit old, but for anyone that is using the Source Code editor with journal entries, it is just like editing any HTML file for a web page.
    What this means is, we can not only embed links to external sites for reference ( tags) but we can use s! If you don't know what s are, you can basically load all of the HTML and Javascript for a different site, directly into the journal note - without needing to click on a link to take you there.
    I use this ALL THE TIME and it is a game-changer, but I didn't see it mentioned in this video.

      Great tip. I've been wanting someone to teach me how to do this. If you're interested in volunteering a few minutes, ping me on my Discord discord.gg/wgPbnfgJAJ

    How i used notes. I had a multi level dungeon. On the first level were 5 small rooms, each with a different chromatic dragon statue and a specific rune carved in front. My journal entries for each had a black and white image of each respective dragon head with the rune. They needed this information to pass several other puzzles latter on in the dungeon. I would either use the runes, or the dragon statue images and they had to match color and or rune to the correct statue to avoid traps and open doors.

    Very helpful, as always. As a non-html user, I wish Foundry had a default way of text-formatting parallel columns in journals. Too many times, when importing game text into journals, I end up with huge areas of empty space on the right-hand side of the journal, and vast ‘scroll journeys’ to navigate. A simple formatting button that divides the page as needed would put an end to all this. I know that tables can be used to split up the page real estate as well as table-creation but it’s ends up an extremely ugly and confused layout. Hopefully the Foundry people are listening...

    Is there any way to set the default map note settings, like the entry icon and icon size?

    • @Baileywiki

      Not without a module, I suspect. I could swear I've seen it module that does this, but no idea what it was called or if it's even current.

    Thanks a lot but I have an issue I dont understand. Even though I put a journal not on a map with "Limited" acess. My player can still open the note and see the text. Is there anyway to prevent that ? I cant seem to find the problem.

    • @Zephyr-2011
      @Zephyr-2011 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So is the journal itself with limited access? That's what controls the visibility rather than the map's access. It might also be worth double checking the permissions settings for your player(s).

    • @Satori2046
      @Satori2046 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Zephyr-2011 It was the player's acess.
      But I actually found the culprit of this "glitch". I was using a module called "Monk Enhanced Journal" and in this module the first option is to "Enable players to acess Enhanced journal", by enabling it, it fixes the issue. Journal pin notes are no longer readable by players and they can only see the map pins ! Hurray and thanks for your help !

    Is it possible to add a link to a different journal inside one journal? Example: I have a journal entry for the dungeon in general and then links to each room in this journal.

    • @Baileywiki
      @Baileywiki  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think you can just drag and drop a journal entry directly into your open journal entry, assuming you're in edit mode.

  • @keithstanton8361
    @keithstanton8361 ปีที่แล้ว

    Table options are quite different in current version vs what is in the video. Less options for cell formatting. Tables only retain their spacing when in edit mode. While viewing spacing is lost. Wish there was a way to retain the spacing, everything is squished together now.

    Short question from a TH-cam buddy. Which Software do you use to record your Pointer with the blue highlight around it?
    Thank you for your Videos. 👍

      Hi Tom! Sorry I missed this earlier, I use Auto Hotkey and a cursor highlighter utility developed by a professor for teaching purposes. I followed a Kevin Stratvert video where he shows a couple options and walks through the install process. Super painless: th-cam.com/video/kwSqtNvT7to/w-d-xo.html

    We usually use Dokuwikis (out of habit) in our games because we have a lot NPC's, handouts, lore. In one game I think we had well over 500 named NPC's with character articles and dozens frequented locations. Is Foundry good enough for running and creating your whole massive worlds?

    • @Baileywiki
      @Baileywiki  ปีที่แล้ว

      Foundry is great at it. You just can't build giant scenes. But Foundry is great at linking together many scenes to make a whole world.
