I've always admired John Alexander, his stalwart vibrant singing, his musicality. Here at the latter part of his careeer he has everything, a wonderful actor also .... what a wonderful set, even Pavarotti is present in the feeling of the performance as Arbace tries to counsel the King in his grief ...... they bring the scene to life. ** Alexander's phrasing and voice so wonderful, i have to watch this repeatedly. I always liked his voice. His Met broadcasts are a particular favorite of mine. Sutherland put him on the map with the Norma recording. A consummate musician and well liked by his colleagues. He tended to sing higher notes without cover and a little spread but a great voice.

Characteristically elegant singing form Alexander. Brilliant!
How many singers today, let alone tenors, are singing this well at 60?
That’s how you do it!

I love John Alexander, but the passage work here has been simplified, omitted, and poorly executed.
You mean the same way it was for Pavarotti? John Alexander was 60 here, and if you think you can do better, I bet we’d love to hear it. 😂
