One of the greatest European composers. I first discovered Gabrieli when I was around 13 years old and for the past seven years his music has formed a crucially important part of my everyday life. Thanks for posting!
I'd rather hear this performed by males with sackbuts and cornetti, etc. However, this is the first performance I have heard that conveys the dramatic qualities of 'In Ecclesiis' that is obvious in the score - especiailly where what's called the 'trumpet fanfare' here. Probably the most powerful piece of sacred music of its time. Thanks!
FAR TO MANY RIDICULOUS " PURIST" Commentors Out There , Who Could not Appreciate The Sheer POWER of This PERFORMANCE , And ACCEPT it For What It's WORTH !!! SHAME ON ALL OF YOU !!!.....( I'm Sure Gabrieli HIMSELF Would Have Loved the Much More Richer And Enhanced Sounds of Modern Instruments, As Opposed to the Weak Paper Thin Sounds of Period Instruments , that He was Forced to Compose for Because of the Times !!! For Many Years this Has Been My Favorite Version of This Piece, Primarily Because it has MEAT 🍖 ON IT !!!.....
Wow! Very beautiful indeed! Powerfully conveyed! However, the true, period performance, should only have brass accompaniment. That aside, the strings and organ make feel very powerful and rewarding. That arrangement makes it sound almost baroque. Almost.
glorious piece, but the singers are horribly "wobbly". Using opera voices for this kind of music is completely inappropriate and highly unauthentic. What a shame, it is such an incredible piece of music
I enjoy the music yet it is a terrible arrangement, sackbuts, cornetts are needed, no strings doubling the vocal parts. soloists are used in the original...why arent you? rant over.
Too much vibrato in the voices. There are better groups that sing this. Also the brass is modern instruments. The Gabrieli Consort is much more authentic and beautiful.

Glorious music! My wife and I have sung this in chorus several times, and it still makes for shivers down the spine!

No one did brass fanfares like Gabrieli.
Louis Forde I discovered him when I was 13 as well
@skellez83 The Gabrielli Consort choir I think?
This was the Ambrosian Singers. One of the greats.

Joel Seda the organ and cornettos are very common in Renaissance/Baroque music and were commonly seen :)
@Francis1930 Oh, OK thanks! (Nice channel, btw)
What ensemble is that?!
Ambrosian Singers.
Cheers!
cori spezzati..

Very powerful, but unauthentic in orchestration and solos need to be non vibrati.
