Reason/Inspiration behind the song/video and their entire Holy Hell album: their former guitarist Tom Searle got cancer and died. This song (and the album Holy Hell) reflects their pain of the loss and how they process it

@@Newova To go a little deaper, Tom was the brother of the drummer. Tom did a lot (maybe all?) of the writing for the band. The album before this single was released, All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us, is from what I can tell how Tom saw the world through the eyes of a dying man. I could be wrong but I think I remember reading that somewhere. All the lyrics really stated to make sense once the news of Tom's diagnosis and passing became public. It had been kept secret for quite some time. This song was a work in progress when Tom passed. The band picked up Josh Middleton to fill in and finished the song for Tom. It really hits hard every time I watch this. I'm sorry I didn't see your video sooner but I hope you see this and it gives a little more insight to the band.

Sam Carter has one of the best voices in metal, period. He has range, tone, technique and puts so much of himself into his singing. His cleans are meloncholy and beautiful, his screams are SO ANGRY. And his mixed voice is the best in the business.

Architects have so many good songs. The entire Holy Hell album is pretty damn amazing. It's hard to not start bobbing your head the second this song starts.

Haven't finished the video yet so idk if you mentioned it or not, but the gradual increase in the intensity of the particle effects represents Tom's life/health fading away.

@@Newova it was pretty touching when I found that out. This song was also my first true introduction to the band. Before that I only knew their shitty post hardcore album (that they hate), and the song These Colours Don't Run. So glad I gave them an honest chance, all of their material is sick in one way or another.
A little late to the party, but about the inspiration for the concept and esthetic of the videoclip is from Darren Aronofsky's The Fountain, VFX are dope and heavily inspired by that film, which, to me, is a underrated gem by this director, reallydifferent and dramatic "sci-fi" movie.
Also the main theme of the film is really close to the feels related to this song, cause it's about loss and becoming aware and acceptance of mortality.
As probably others said, this song is a tribute to Tom Searle, the guitarist who passed before finishing to write this. His brother, the drummer, and the other members did it, they finished it for him.
It's always very emotional for me to listen to them and their tracks after you know their backstory...

I hear what you are saying about that opening mic sound. It sounds like a muddy mix with no pop filter. It kinda fits the mood and almost feels like despair the way they mixed that opening line.

Also, I always thought Dan, Tom's twin, was representing him in this music video. Showing his passage onto the other world, becoming the one with the universe. idk, I might be wrong but Dan being the main character in this video is definitely meaningful.

@@Newova yeah the lead singer has one of my favorite vocals in metal. This is what i compare others to lol. Also im sure youve heard of them, but Crystal lake can be called the japanese architects for their similar style of being able to make singing sound ultra melodic like this
