- Hello 😊
Here's the requested transcription of the ABBA song "Dancing Queen". This track comes from their 1976 album "Arrival". The bass player on this track was Rutger Gunnarsson.
You can find this transcription at Muzento under the Advanced - Learning Songs section.
I enjoyed working on this song. I've played it quite a few times in some musical theater productions, but the bass line written was simplified from what Rutger did. It was nice to finally get in there and learn some of his lines. I sure have more of an appreciation for Rutger after doing this. He was a really fine player!
The key thing for me with this song was beat 2. To make sure to keep those two 8th notes short. I reminded myself this is a dance song, and to keep that floating dance beat feel. Accenting beat 2 helped me to focus, and get into that zone.
Rutger was a really precise player. Really pay attention to the rhythm, and ghost notes. Note length is important if you want to match what he did.
I hope you have fun with it...I sure did :)

Superb! Thank you Greg, for the best transcription and playing of this out there! Very challenging piece (for me) - so much to learn here. Thank you!
Wow! Thank you very much. So glad you're liking it...thanks!
Greg, Bass Dance N. Thanks 😎❤💫
hehe :)
Greg, thank you for transcribing this class ABBA song. It's challenging and fun to play!
Hey Bob, glad to hear you're having fun with this one. That rhythm is a good one to have under your fingers ;)
What a great song. Really amazing bass line. Thanks again Greg !
Hey Gary. It is a very well written pop song and bass line. My pleasure...thanks! :)
Amazing playing Greg. Thanks for showing us how it's done. Cheers
It's always nice to hear from you Constantine. You're very kind...thank you :)
interseting with the root A on the E string 5th fret , Never seen it like this before. I haven't ever come close to nailing this so looking forward toi giving it a go.
Thanks for the message. Have you seen it with guys playing on open A? Good luck with it and have fun :)
Thanks, Greg for all you do; excellent transcripton. Rutger Gunnarson, RIP, has to be one of the best and most-original bass players on the planet. Another TH-cam bass teacher, Sonic Blue Bass, is an ABBA nut, and has dozens of transcriptions. Check out "One Of Us", one of my favorites.
I will...thanks!
Bravo
Once again, huge kudos to you, Sir. I've played this song many times and always tried to match the feel and enjoyed the articulated ghost notes, but I knew I was not getting it just like the song. It's really hard to hear the bass from the way it was mixed. I can now learn it the way it's supposed to be played . 🙂 Thank you for posting and hope everything is going great in your part of the world.
Hey Pat, I know what you mean. I had to listen a few times to hear and feel what was going on. It's a great line he came up with. Fits in perfectly with the rest of the song. All good here...hope the same for you over there :)
Incredible job nailing the feel.
Thanks a lot. I appreciate that :)
Great cover! I played this (and a ton of other ABBA tunes) for Momma Mia last year! The basslines are surprisingly complex!
Yes they are! He was a really good player...thanks!
NIce! Always great covers !I'd like the same for Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) ! ...in remember of Rutger Gunnarson :)
I'll check it out. I'm sure anything Rutger on it will be good...thanks!
Great job!! One of my favs!
Hey Tracy, I'm glad you liked it. Thanks a lot!
Ripping it up 👌
hehe...thanks :)
Sounded great Greg.. very well done.. I never really sat down and listened that close but it’s a very cool bass line… hope your well.. have a great day…
Thanks Drew...you too :)
Hi Greg, very good choice, not easy to play as many silent notes. Thanks
It is surprisingly difficult. I hope you give it a try though :)
@@BassCovers passed on the third attempt
good song Greg
YAY
Hey Mark. Glad you like it...thanks!
Great work as always... I find with this one your sense of timing and muting need to reallly be on point so that it doesn't sound too awkward or stilted, especially for the super syncopated fills (like the one at 2:40 - not an easy one to pull off!) Thanks for the transcription
Thank a lot! Yes, Rutger was a very precise player. Technique and rhythm is important. Glad you like the transcription...thanks!
Nice job Greg!
Thanks!
While I don't like ABBA, this is a really cool bass part. Nice job!
Thanks a lot...cheers!
May I ask you for the cover of The Concord Theme by Franck Pourcel? I haven't seen it anywhere.
I'll check it out...thanks!
