- The always-funny Emmy-nominated, Louie Anderson stopped by Sway in the Morning during his "Baskets" promo run where he plays the hilarious role of Zach Galifianakis' mother.
While in-studio he opens up about how he scored that role - but wait 'til you hear how he instantly got a part in the Eddie Murphy classic, Coming To America. It all started after he picked up Eddie's $600 tab at a restarant... and rest was history.

Man i listened to this interview multiple times since it released in 2017. I remember Louie was doing a lot of promotion for Baskets. I’m so sad to learn he passed away in January. I used to wake up early on weekends to watch the cartoon Life with Louie. I’m almost 29 and Louie was always a favorite of mine. I loved when he hosted Family Feud too.

Corey Schulz the only Kevin hart movie i like is CI with the rock. His first 2 or 3 specials were good too. I don't like the majority of his work though.

Coming to America wasn’t just big in the black community or the white community, it was even big here in Australia, as were most Eddie Murphy movies. Raw and Delirious were both huge too. I even saw Harlem Nights. Richard Pryor movies were very popular as well, especially those he did with Gene Wilder. The funny thing is that most of us were completely unaware that Pryor was a stand up comedian, let alone arguably the greatest ever, at least until the internet came along.

What laws had to be created to get you on the big screen? You don't need laws to be a citizen, to vote, to be hired, to join the military, etc., to go ANYWHERE to do ANYTHING. RIP Louie. As coincidence would have it I saw him at the Comedy Store a few years ago. He didn't look in great health then but the standing ovation he got when he took the stage, my goodness. Everyone was so happy to see him. Glad I got to be in a room just 20 feet away from this man toward the end of his life.
