I don't have these tires on my own truck for winter. I Have KO2's. However. Believe it or not. The Michelin MS2 is a really good winter tire. It does good in slushy conditions and has tons of sipes for the the snow. And they wear good for when it's not snowing and you're driving on the hot top. They do not look cool at all. But they get the job done.
Not a knock on Venom Power but should use a better A/T options such as Falken wildpeak, BFG KO2, Toyo open country at3, Nitto terra grappler g2. Maybe that is the next test. Does expensive A/T do better than value tires...
They used a one of the top of the line mud tires. And in the lugs has sipes for snow. So in return should have used a one of the top of line All terrain tires. Then also used an official snow rated tire as a control
Got a set of Toyo Open County M/T tires, LT275/70R18, combined with a limited-slip posi traction rear differential and 3.73 gears. Live in Southern Illinois and I've never been let down in any weather condition. Pricey, yes, but also so worth it.
I've been driving all day on ice (Texas) on new venom power terrahunter x/ts 37x13.50s I got from yall (2011 lariat f150 4wd 6in lift)... no complaints whatsoever. Made it thru everything, no traction issues, good stopping and good acceleration.
The Nitto Mudgrapplers are by far the best tire I've ever owned for what I need. They LAST a LONG time for a bogger. Yeah they're loud, but my truck is a lifted truck with loud exhaust. I off-road about 20% of the time and at 15psi (no bead locks) I haven't got stuck with them once, they look great and the sidewalls are strong af. Bought some BFG KO2's and after 20K I replaced them with Mudgrapplers.
Good video. The best winter AT/MT tire I have ever owned is the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss. It is classified as an AT tire, but it is really a hybrid AT/MT tire. I currently have them on a Bronco Raptor, and they are awesome up here in Idaho. The Raptor came with K02s. The K02s and Baja Boss's are about the same on hard pack (both 3PMSF rated), but in deep snow it is not even close.
Put them on my Land Cruiser & no complaints from me. I have Wildpeaks on the Ranger & Toyo open country in the old Range Rover sport. All good tyres but for serious offroad I'd take the Baja Boss. For the blacktop the Toyo's are awesome.
In SE Montana I love my Patagonia M/T tires. I had the falken wildpeak AT3W on but was not impressed in the winter conditions. The Patagonia's seem to perform much better on and off road in all seasons.
Both tires definitely have their pros and cons in the snow. The mentioned difference between hard-packed snow and powdery snow would most definitely cause different results. As for the stopping, unless began applying the brakes at the same speed with both tires, the results of that test are meaningless. Just got a set of General Grabber A/TX on my F-150 almost a week ago. My friend bought the same tire for his Ford Ranger and was satisfied with how it performed when he had to make a 6 hour drive home from an off-roading trip in a snowstorm. I'm hoping to get a chance to test them out in the snow before winter's over, but there's no guarantee I'll get a chance here in Georgia.
I've had a set of 33" ATXs on our 06 Yukon since June. Their winter performance is pretty impressive. Tons of nasty washboarded mountain roads and trail navigation, they've held up beautifully.
When I bought my 6.0 it had mud tires and I live up in michigan. They were horrible in the snow so I bought some all terrains and man what a difference.
I’m in Indian river. Best tires I ever had was my Ironman m/t. Idk why but I could NOT get my Cummins stuck anywhere lol 😂 I’m sure the 6 inch lift with 37’s helped but them tires ate in the snow, mud, and didn’t slip on wet pavement. Imma buy some for my f150 this week and see how they do. Where you from? Nice 6.0
Do a video on the effects of sipping in snow and ice. I live in Alaska. I was running a 35x12.5x17 toyo AT extreme II's and they were complete garbage in the snow/ice. I bought a set of Cooper Evolutions in 295/70/17 and had them sipped. They suddenly perform great in snow and ice. Tire shops that are experienced with sipping here up North usually only do the inside tread blocks of the tire to help the shoulder maintain stability. There's a lot of myths about sipping. Done correctly it can actually extend the life of your tire because a sipped tire runs cooler and temp is one of the main components of tire wear.
Few things. The stopping power of those M/T was so far apart should have scored M/T 5 A/T 3. I’d be interested in how much more acceleration the A/T had vs the M/T? Was that score appropriate? Second, I’d be interested in a 2wd vs 4wd comparison. Also, I’d like to see how the A/T performs in snow deeper than 2 inches.
These results illustrate why the Duratrac, and maybe a couple others, makes such a good compromise. It is passable in the mud, but much more than passable in snow and ice. All depends on where you’re willing to compromise your performance.
You should’ve ran the falken wildpeak at3w for the all terrain I’ve been driving around in the snow and ice all day with them and they handle super well and stop well in the snow.
I love my Federal Couragia M/T 33/12.5 20x20 -44 set up. I live in Portland Oregon we do not get snow but when we do we get dump on and they do great I air down a little and they are amazing. And Especially when I go to the Sand dunes and ride my quads and we sand camp I have no problem in the sand either.and they are not a noisy tire IMO or at least with my Ram they are not noisy.
I’d like to see y’all do this test again and put some of all these RT tires in the ring as well. I’m on federals now and I’m strongly leaning to try those venom RT’s
Just last week I was pounding thru drifts that where knee high with the gooseneck on and a backhoe on the trailer with my copper stt pros! But honestly my favorite is the fierce attitudes when it comes to snow
I have those venoms on 20s they are terrible in the snow I literally just charged them for this weather in Ohio my winter tires are toyo MTs so much better at least I think good video brother
I use the good year wrangler tires and they are a more aggressive A/T from what I was told, and all they do is grab throw the snow out the way and grab traction, they do great for getting traction but not great for wanting to do a bunch of donuts
I thought I was going to learn something here but by viewing the tests and then how you rated each tire had me confused. I seen fishtailing with the AT’s and a calm turn on the MT’s but the score you gave each, to me did not make sense. In the end the only difference in the scores was a 2 so I guess whatever floats your boat buy them. I ran the Nitto’s until they got so loud (louder when the wear) and the traction offroad was… ok, but I would never buy again. I will stick with my 37X12.5 Mickey Thompson Baja Boss MT's
i run mt all the time i have kumho mt right now im thinking when its time to buy a new tire im thinking im going with nitto mt i'm happy to see this i was just wondering does m t good for snow now i found your video matter of fact im thinking on buying nitto mt this video confirmed my thoughts
I like the way my mud tires look but anything on the road like dust, leaves, snow, rain anything like that and it’s spinning and they are bad about hydroplaning but they look good
Actually just got a 6" lift on my '10 Ram 4x4 today. At nearly 7,000ft elevation, we get alot of snow, which then melts and makes the dirt roads really muddy. All terrain tires pack up with mud pretty bad from my experience. Mud tires can be louder, but that extra noise gives potential deer a bit more notice that I am approaching on the pavement. How you brake, steer, and accelerate are bigger factors in snow driving IMO. If you can, stay home if the snow/ice is bad. By all means, SLOW DOWN, saw 6 vehicles that slid out/crashed in the snowy pavement, just today on the way to my appointment! I am sure speed or sudden braking was to blame, not the tread on their vehicle. Looking for a set of 35 inch tires now, either getting BFG A/T or M/T, both are great tires. Honestly, going to flip for it! I thought the music in the video was absolutely terrible. Thanks for the review. 👍
I'm gonna be real with ya, I hate that you used the venom for a comparison only because it's not the common AT tire like a ko2 or grabber or the mickey thompson even... venom just too flat... more of a show tire for mall crawling as opposed to a triple peak rated functional all terrain
@Custom Offsets completely understand that! I love what you guys are doing and have been doing! I had Nitto mud grapplers on my jeep 4 door jk 33x12.50r18 and those things absolutely SUCKED in rain and snow.... and to think that they kinda beat the venoms freaks me out lol
@richard wilson I'm happy for you... go to one offroad meet and you won't find any of those... which was my point of being an actual functional relied upon at tire...
I am taking the MT all day. I have ran Toyo MTs, Maxxis Razr MTs (current) and Accelera MT01. I have also ran the Toyo AT2s and AT3s and they perform very well. I live in southern Oregon (country life) so we see a fair amount of snow yearly. I am not saying that ATs or RTs are not good in the snow but I believe you are biased to ATs just like I am biased to MTs. Watching the video I see just as much spin or more from the Terra hunters and you originally said so as well with it floating on start up vs digging like the MT. I have said it before and continue to believe that the performance you get from a tire is based on the tire, meaning the cheaper the tire the worse the performance, cheap MTs are not going to do very well so if your going with an MT you should go with a Toyo or Nitto level MT for sure.
When you do a tire test, it would be helpful for those that actually pay attention to it, give us an idea what the PSI is in the tire during the test. It does make a difference.....
Honestly my thought process while watching this video started out as "Oh this should be cool, I like watching people compare tires in the snow"..........but then I started hearing turbo/exhaust noises and lost interest in the test and just kept listening to the truck LMAO
Lmao.. I've had Pro Comps MT 315/70/17 on my jeep Gladiator and they've run through snow and even ice pretty decent. As of last week, ran into a snow storm in Ohio, and just put on new Gladiator MT 35s on. Only used 2wd and had limited issues going 45 as visibility was the issue.. People keep complaining about the MT, but I've never had issues running them.. js
My truck had milestar Patagonias on it when I bought it. Hit a patch of cold wet pavement in a corner at maybe 30mph and lost front end traction. That was pretty scary. Bought some nitro exo grapplers, hit that same corner going faster and in worse conditions and it was like it was dry. Mud tires have no business being on vehicles in the winter imo.
I think it’s not quite as simple as that. I’ve had mud tires that I believe dud to the rubber compound were passable in the winter. I’ve had others that literally might as well be slicks.
Gasoline and fire gets plenty done 😬😂 But yeah, my MT's do fine by me in the snow. They do get their spin on if I have to park in deep snow at an awkward angle, but that's the nature of any vehicle without 4x engaged and she hasn't gotten stuck yet 🤷♂️🙏
I kinda want to see this with a lighter truck with some lighter tire maybe after the truck sits for a bit and driving out of a ditch I like mudterrian but I do believe a/t is good in snow
I want to see how the gladiator x comps do in snow. Im between those or the venom terra hunters. I know the terra hunters arnt great but they have a good look. Anyone have the gladiator x comps? They good in rain/snow/ off road?
I don't understand why it seems up north guys say mud tires are bad in the snow I life in Georgia and we seldom get snow but when we do the only trucks we can get in and out of my steep driveway is my 2500 cat eye with the toyo MTS my sierra 2500 has the dick cepek all terrains and they are terrible in the snow both 2500s both 04 both diesel identical trucks but the cat eye goes well in the snow hutnwe have really west heavy snow not the powder like up north
Mickey thomsons are one of the worst tires I’ve ever dealt with that were said to be good. Don’t look good, no where near true to size, not the beast in snow and don’t last long for shit. Stick to nitto, Toyo, and bfgoodrich if you’re willing to spend. If not mile star patagonia is a good choice for the price
yall need to build a shitbox that yall can actually beat on in these videos! a truck just for testing! i think thatd make these videos more ablility to put some obstacles or something or like take it through insane extreme tests. like go through a foot of snow with diff tires or like go over logs or like through like 8 inches of mud or something
What’s your favorite winter tire? - bit.ly/3kuTdOM
Wild country Mt........you should do rhiz with snow tires
Can you try out the new A/T nitto RECON grappler on how well they do out in the snow?
I live in Michigan and I love the duratrac’s in the snow. On packed hard ice they get a little slippery.
I don't have these tires on my own truck for winter. I Have KO2's. However. Believe it or not. The Michelin MS2 is a really good winter tire. But they get the job done.
At this point I'm swearing by the General Grabber ATx. Performs phenomenally well in snow and drives super quiet.
I just got the new Mickey thompson baja boss A/T.... they are absolutely Awesome!!! Hands down the best Tires
I was just about to order them and they don't make my size.... had to go with the legend exp
I have them too. I vouch for them in the snow and ice. They perform really well.
Are they bro? Been looking for someone who actually owns them before i went and threw my money at the shop🤣🤣 How do they handle wet/snowy conditions?
Very good handling wet and snowy con....very very quiet too.....Very pleased to have them on my truck
They can't compete with TOYO.
Not a knock on Venom Power but should use a better A/T options such as Falken wildpeak, BFG KO2, Toyo open country at3, Nitto terra grappler g2. Maybe that is the next test. Does expensive A/T do better than value tires...
Tell me your truck has falken without telling me your truck has falken😂
Agreed! Use a different all terrain tire!
pointless vid was pointless, agreed
They used a one of the top of the line mud tires. And in the lugs has sipes for snow.
So in return should have used a one of the top of line All terrain tires.
Then also used an official snow rated tire as a control
It's all about them trying to make a sale for the more expensive tires.

Always run mud tires in winter, spring, summer, and fall. Might have to give a good A/T tire a try and see how much difference it can be.
Definitely worth a shot!
What alot of people forget about the mud grapp is that it does have more grooves for snow then alot of other Mt tires
Im running some Amazon mud tires called cavalry mts and i havent had any issues with them ive put almost 13k miles on them

I just got my nitto ridge grapplers in right before the snow hit in Oklahoma and my truck has done great on them so far very impressed
Good to know - i really like the unique look of the ridge grapplers, heard mixed reviews about snow performance. How do they do in the rain?

exactly....the compromise will have to be made somewhere. we all want 'the best overall' performance.
I got Kanda Klever r/t and I was impressed driving through 2' of snow
You should’ve ran the falken wildpeak at3w for the all terrain I’ve been driving around in the snow and ice all day with them and they handle super well and stop well in the snow.
They definitely a stellar tire!!
Definitely should have used the BFG KO2'S those are waaaaay better in the slick conditions
The tread patterns are very similar so I'm not sure how different it would be
@@NathanS5150 tread compound and the type of rubber plus siping
From my experience in the rain the BFG KO2's AT are bit slippery in the rain, but it could just be that my truck is super light.

I was thinking the same thing
I just absolutely love my landspyder AT tires
Kenda kleever RT tires are insane in the snow been busting drifts and playing in ditches down here in illinois with 22 inches of snow
Northern Illinois here 😏
I just got the cooper Evolution mud terrain and so far I love It! We got about a foot of snow and they do pretty well in the snow.
I have those venoms on 20s they are terrible in the snow I literally just charged them for this weather in Ohio my winter tires are toyo MTs so much better at least I think good video brother

Goodyear wrangler duratrac is what I run on my truck, and I’ve never felt more planned in winter with any other tire
I've had GOODYEAR WRANGLER MT/R 35's on for over a year great tires GREAT in the snow and quiet on the pavement...you should do a test on them
We’ll look into em!!
Yessssss!!!! What I been looking for!
we got snow 2/3/2022 ❄️ 8inches,i used the Radar Renegade Rt 24×14×35 an they did pretty good
Can’t beat that!
The Goodyear duratrac is a great hybrid tire works amazing in the snow I also run them on a 2012 Sierra Denali so it’s awd all the time
Also in Canada aswell
i run mt all the time i have kumho mt right now im thinking when its time to buy a new tire im thinking im going with nitto mt i'm happy to see this i was just wondering does m t good for snow now i found your video matter of fact im thinking on buying nitto mt this video confirmed my thoughts
High end mud tire vs budget at. Need to test a high end winter rated at tire. Also on ice or compact snow is a total different story.
Ever heard of the budget mt thunderer Trac grip ? Seems to hold up pretty well they also make a a/t called the ranger
Centennial Dirt Commander M/T best tire hands down.
I like the way my mud tires look but anything on the road like dust, leaves, snow, rain anything like that and it’s spinning and they are bad about hydroplaning but they look good
For me living in the northeast the Goodyear Duratrac is an awesome tire
The stopping difference is a life saver imho
Great video guys.

I run Firestone destination mt2s m+s. One of the best tires I've ever ran in the snow
How heavy is the ❄️ there
I'm gonna be real with ya, I hate that you used the venom for a comparison only because it's not the common AT tire like a ko2 or grabber or the mickey thompson even... venom just too flat... more of a show tire for mall crawling as opposed to a triple peak rated functional all terrain
We do a lot more show style setups then what the ko2 or grabber tends to offer for sizes

AT because you are right the MT dig like hell in the snow.
My kanati trail hogs did better on snow and ice than any other tire I’ve seen. They performed awesome, blew my mind.
Can you try out the new A/T nitto RECON grappler on how well they do in the snow?
What if you used one of the 3pms rated at tires?
Those are good for winter driving.
What you should’ve done was see how much acceleration you could get without spinning vs just flooring it and see what got you to x speed faster
Living in the north east you have to go straight to the 100% Winter tire, you will not get any better than a pure winter tire.
My old F150 had some Falkin Wild peak MT tires and my new ram has some toyo open country at3. The at3 are so much better in the snow.
Not knocking you, I am sure you have your reasons for the scores and I did not ‘feel’ what you did. Good video
You should have tested the mud tires against a proper Nordic winter tire...
Take it no weight added in the bed?

The AT are better than MT just on ice and wet road, but on snow, the bigger the snow is the bigger will be the difference form AT
thanks for sharing
We reach -40 to -50 celcius during winter were i live, M/Ts turn into hockey pucks here therefore not practical.
I kinda want to see this with a lighter truck with some lighter tire maybe after the truck sits for a bit and driving out of a ditch
I like mudterrian but I do believe a/t is good in snow
Next test. How long does it take to smash those fugly-ass taillights off if that beautiful truck!
Narrow tires with studs or chains are a lot better than wide tires..
I’m run cooper discoverer AT/3 4S in Canada
I get that sometimes you have to do a video with the tires you have but seriously comparing the mt to a hybrid isn't an mt vs at its a mt vs rt
Would like to see this test in deep snow.
The chrome on the bumpers make my head hurt … why? Maybe color match
Eventually!
I want to see how the gladiator x comps do in snow. Im between those or the venom terra hunters. I know the terra hunters arnt great but they have a good look. Anyone have the gladiator x comps? They good in rain/snow/ off road?
Damn bronzefire beat me 😔
I don't understand why it seems up north guys say mud tires are bad in the snow I life in Georgia and we seldom get snow but when we do the only trucks we can get in and out of my steep driveway is my 2500 cat eye with the toyo MTS my sierra 2500 has the dick cepek all terrains and they are terrible in the snow both 2500s both 04 both diesel identical trucks but the cat eye goes well in the snow hutnwe have really west heavy snow not the powder like up north
I'll take a mud tire all day over an all terrain tire.
Love My trail grapplers
Mickey thomsons are one of the worst tires I’ve ever dealt with that were said to be good. Don’t look good, no where near true to size, not the beast in snow and don’t last long for shit. Stick to nitto, Toyo, and bfgoodrich if you’re willing to spend. If not mile star patagonia is a good choice for the price
These 12.5 wide tires are not good for snow. A thinner tire would be better.
Those cheap Venoms are not a good comparison for Nittos. The amount of siping on them is poor.
yall need to build a shitbox that yall can actually beat on in these videos! a truck just for testing! i think thatd make these videos more ablility to put some obstacles or something or like take it through insane extreme tests. like go through a foot of snow with diff tires or like go over logs or like through like 8 inches of mud or something
This isnt a realist test because i believe it should be tested in deep snow(1ft+ of snow) and on slick snow&ice covered roads.
11ft of snow would require float tires haha
Howdy people
Wide tires will always suck in the snow
I'll keep my mud claw tires
Day 103 of asking custom offsets for a company dually truck build
Awesome
mud tires all the way..
do the nitto trail grapplers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don’t drive mine in the winter
Easiest way to avoid salt!
I live in South Florida!
@@PowerstrokeSynd same! Easiest possible way to never worry about snow traction
