Congrats to Isaac on his new job! I work in health care and totally get the medical anxiety. I am glad you are taking a step back and doing what you need. Can't wait to see your new makes.❤❤❤❤
Congratulations to Isaac. I am glad you did tell us about your locum related work anxiety. I fully understand it. Nurses, sadly, don't get the support at work that doctors do, I know this from experience. In addition, not all work environments are welcoming or comfortable. Have faith in yourself. Having a bit of extra time over Christmas and New Year is a good thing, I think, you could probably do with a rest. Enjoy the family and sewing time. Many beginners make the same mistakes over pattern sizing. To be fair, when I was young the big pattern companies' patterns did fit me straight out of the envelope. They don't now! Bodies change. I have just ordered the Toaster Sweater pattern, it should arrive tomorrow. I have the TATB Coco, but have never made it up. I am interested in how yours looks.
We have all been through work related stress, for one reason or another. It can take a toll for sure. I look back on a couple of times during my career that I would not want to live over again, but by and large, I enjoyed working and most co-workers were great. Rachel, put that aside for now and enjoy your run up to Christmas, spending time with your family. If you have more time, think of all the casual wear you can make right away with the beautiful fabrics you showed us yesterday.
Yay for Isaac's job. Looking forward to seeing those makes. Sorry to hear about your anxiety. My menopause anxiety focused on flyin. I need to do that for my job, and for a few years it was hell each time. But now all that has passed. It's good to give yourself a break when you need it, but there's a fine balance between that and narrowing your life. Sometimes it is good to feel the fear and do it anyway. Hugs. xx
So sorry that you have felt such anxiety on the work front Rachel. I applaud our NHS workers - relentless stress and taking a step back will do you good and give you the space to take stock. Congratulations to Isaac 🎉 and you take care lovely lady. Your vlogmasses are a joy as always 🎄❤️ xxx
I love me a Coco. I just recently made my mum a top version and am considering wearing one of my sweatshirt dress variations tomorrow to go see Nutcracker in the cinema. I usually do fisheye darts in the back because I’ve found that sits a bit nicer on me. And you can always add those to the finished piece if you find you need them, even if it is a bit more hassle to sew them at that point. It’ll look so special in the sequins!
I so understand your anxiety. I'm 55 and been struggling with generalised anxiety for over a year. Not work related but ended up giving up my job in July to take care of me. Take care of yourself.
Rachel you have to take care of you and if the job gives you anxiety then you should cut back. Sometimes we just have so much going on that it is just to much to handle at that time. Congratulations to Issac. Thanks as always for sharing with us.
Congratulations Isaac! And to you for recognising and putting your health needs first (so often we dont). Loved the purple "butterfly" fabric - absolutely beautiful xxx
Oh the coco! I made so many of them back in the day. I think it will look lovely in sequins (although may scratch round the neckline a bit?). Well done for acting on your workplace anxiety. Do look after yourself and maybe get some help. I suffered with it for years along with insomnia. Looking back now I think perimenopause was a big part (along with horrible bosses!). Sending big hugs xx
Hi Rachel - I’ve made my last couple of Toaster Sweaters the opposite way round to your your plans. So I have version 1 at the top and version two at the hem….and I lengthened the body too. It’s my new favourite sweater 😊
💙💙 looking forward to seeing your Coco I’ve been so tempted to try that one. The Mulberry Cobra Corsage is going to look awesome on you 🥰. I think you’re right and it is directional….I’ve always ignored that because in my head bugs, snakes and moths/butterflies regularly defy gravity in real life so they can be upside down on my dress 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Was shouting put your glasses on 😂 Hope you both get out to Harrogate - love it. Bit of a stretch for us from Liverpool for a day out but we've managed Ilkley before now 🤔 Think our last Harrogate trip was around December so it was lovely with all the decorations. Well done to Issac 👍💜
Congratulations to Issac! Rachel, I really feel for you and other women who are in that too young to retire but just miserable in a work situation. I was fortunate to work for a wonderful dentist for over 30 years (I’m a dental hygienist) I loved my job, loved my boss, loved my patients. When he sold his practice, I was totally devalued by the new dentist, I was in pure misery. I took it as an opportunity to do something I have always wanted to do, something that I had started when I was still doing hygiene. It’s a dream job, I’m a freelance MUA/hair-wig artist. I work on commercials, live events, films, opera, museum exhibits… A film I worked on will be released July 2025. My dear sweet, supportive husband had faith in me and said go for it! Dare to dream! Fyi, I kept my hygiene license and continued to do substation work until June of this year and I retired my scalers 😂. That had become very stressful and I decided it just wasn’t worth it. Hang in there ladies it gets better.
Rachel, there is nothing boring about you and Martin! I’m thrilled that you decided to give YOUR health priority! Self care is so important in menopausal women. Menopause is hard. As Issac gets more independent, you don’t have to work your life away. Enjoy your time.
Fri 13th lived up to it's reputation in my job 😳 thank heavens it's the weekend!! My daughter worked at KFC for years and now house-shares with her ex manager, they ended up as besties!! I LIVE in Toasters in winter, made from the cable knit from Pound Fabrics
Certainly don't bring stress into your life, it's too short as is. Feel better both of you. More sewing time. Gray here too, but it's -20C and colder somedays....brrr
Congratulations Isaac! I’m looking forward to seeing the sequin dress. Do you cut the sequins away from them the seam before you sew, or sew through them? Just curious. I am curious as I altered a heavily sequined dress for my daughter once and broke w needles before I got it done, and read after about cutting them away from the allowance, but thought perhaps that was only because it was so heavily sequinned. Loving your vlogs.
13 is the number at the Last Supper where Judas slipped away to betray Jesus leading to his death - that's why it's unlucky. Hope you feel better about work - cutting back is a good idea. Looking forward to seeing your makes.😎❤
Bathing our bodies in adrenaline and cortisol over long periods of time is so bad for us, I firmly believe it leaves us vulnerable to cancer, ask me how I know. Don’t do things that make you unhappy, it’s just not worth it, listen to your mind and body Rachel x
Oh babes, do be careful! I had to stop work because of burn out. Have you had a real time out so you could really relax? I didn't really sleep well for years after I retired. Magnesium citrate was the answer.
OMG I did the same with the first dress I ever made 🤣 didn’t do any measurements and just thought my RTW size would fit 🤣 I had to CUT it of 🤣🤣 leaned my lesson
I wonder if you like my label ..... I get them made and the same label goes in everything I make "Made with Love and Swear Words"! P.S. Not for children's things though!!
Don't do what makes you anxious. Ever! It's bad for your mental and physical health. I started cutting way back once I turned 50. Never regretted it!
Congrats to Isaac on his new job! I work in health care and totally get the medical anxiety. I am glad you are taking a step back and doing what you need. Can't wait to see your new makes.❤❤❤❤
Glad that you are taking care of yourself and not subjecting yourself to work that causes you anxiety, Rachel. Congrats to Isaac on his job! ❤️

So happy for Isaac's new job. Was thinking they would hire him as he comes across as such a great kid!😊

You're never boring Rachel, you're my number 1 vlogger. X
I did the Coco last year in a stretch sparkle fabric and it was great - looked good and so comfy xx❤

Looking forward to seeing all your new makes Rachel, especially the Coco sequin dress! 😊
I also have the KATM advent calendar and share your opinion, mostly Meh with the occasional redeeming good un! Yay for Isaac’s job.
Take the time you need to take care of yourself ❤️
Absolutely.

That’s incredible!
Congrats to Isaac! KFC was my son's job as well as a youngin, it was a lot of fun partly because he worked with one of his friends.
You have to listen to your body and avoid the anxiety, just think of all the stunning makes you will get done😊
Yay to making the Coco again… I have and love that pattern too

Totally agree about the labels. I expected better, I feel like they are out of good ideas.
I agree about the KATM advent.

Rachel I am really disappointed with Kyle and machine calendar. Mind yourself.
