This is the best m/cycle channel by far. It may just be me, but I find the rash of tubers doing so called ‘motorcycling’ videos have invariably become self obsessed middle aged vanity projects … or just a vehicle to tacitly brag about their personal finances. The essence of motorcycling to me was always about working on the bike, fixing things up, making do and enjoying being a bit different. Keep up the great work sir!
This channel really truly should be growing fast. There are so many others that put out absolute crap information and shadetree at best work. It's good to see another that puts out correct info and great work. Keep it up man. From a fellow mechanic in the states it's really appreciated!!
@@markmiller5577 I do work on Japanese bikes and I currently own two. I've just made do with whatever fits before now, always having that little niggle that I'm not using the right tool. I also ordered hose removing pliers too, what for saving my knuckles.
I normally blame the dog. Another professional, informative and hilarious video Jim. I’m so glad someone with your skill and experience gives up his time to document it for us to enjoy.
Why would you not subscribe? It's FREE! and you get a wealth of knowledge and entertainment from Jim. HIT THAT SUBSCRIBE BUTTON. You know it makes sense. Help the channel grow 😎 Let's get to 100,000 subs and Jim tells us his special carb cleaning juice formula 💪🏻🤔
Hi Jim, I'm a recent subscriber and loving what you do, as a fresh faced youth i used to work as a mechanic at a local @YMUKofficial dealership and remember doing PDI inspections on the V max, you deserve all the luck in the world with your business pal, just keep the great content coming. 👍 Otherwise love to see you work on a 350/500 ypvs. 😉
Never met a nicer bunch of people than bikers and bike lovers, only recently subscribed but I have been watching old videos of yours and it has made me feel a lot more confident in doing basic maintenance on my bike
yeah, i'd suspect idle jet circuits too...a little soak in methyl salicylate might recondition those slide diaphraghms and clear up the distortions...my last Kawi set of Keihins had its float needles replaced with ones from a crap rebuild kit and were 1.5mm too short...the idle jets might be clear but the carb body circuits can also be blocked...mixture screws can be missing o-rings or the wrong friggin length...
OMG that max is GORGEOUS!!! I've got a '94 with somewhere around... 70k miles... She still runs like a scalded ape but she's lookin like she's got more miles on her... I'll be working more to freshen up her looks over this winter 🙂 Sorry- commented at the beggining of the vid instead of waiting till it was done... Thank you for sharing this! Tons of info and I'll definitely be saving for future reference.
You are so correct about bike people or bikers, myself and my partner were part of the 46,000 bikers riding into Barrow in Furness for the Dave Myers memorial ride. Big shout out to all you bikers 👍
I think you are spot on about the biker community in your opening of this video... what other group has each others back like the Biker community.... AlI the bikers I know are sound (guys and gals). Have you seen pictures of the camping fields once the Adventure Biker Festival has finished?... not a spec of litter to be seen (conversely see ANY music festival aftermath carnage). Total respect! Yes there is the odd TW@ that lets it down for the rest but such is life. Keep up the £ecking good work :) - your channel is ace. Hope to see you at the NEC later this month ?
I had one that was doing something similar. It was a blocked pipe in the tank, I can't recall which one without seeing it. But I cut the end off a Speedo cable and flared the strands then using a drill ran it through the pipe. Worked a treat.
This is the best bike channel on the web it’s so interesting seeing a proper motorcycle mechanic who is so free with his specialist information thanks so much
I believe the people who ride motorcycles are grounded, not afraid to give it a go, open to our neighbor for a chat with no tie's, happy to help out with a tyre change or a repair, comfortable with who we are, respectful happy go lucky keen for an excuse ride. So the non riders fear the steel horse rider, thinking to them selves "how do they do it, bloody louts!" really, I wished I could ride"
I LOVE using woodscrews on my bike, particularly the carbs. The only problem is I need to re-apply creosote every 12 months. Honestly, blaming the kids for your windage, I blame our cats and BOY do they get grumpy when I do it.
Just wish you were in Oz, mate. Fanatically and exquisitely brilliant work. Precision in motion. Need more mechanics like yourself to make the world a better place. Do you do any trade school training for the next generation?
FPMSL! Ah Jim - I love this channel as it gives me a glimpse of what life is like for a motorcycle tech. As an ex electronics engineer I also enjoy your electronic diagnosis. Keep up the good work fella.
Get subscribed to this man , hes the Einstein of motorbikes .Help his channel grow folks , he takes a lot of his time compiling these vids for us lot .
Try soaking the stripoed carbs in acetone for 24 hrs , i had a similar problem with a customers bike , i had the carbs off three times because my boss was too tight to buy the acetone i needed to clean the carbs thoroughly , once i soaked the carbs and cleaned them my way the bike ran perfect , i guarantee the internal passages are blocked bud 👍
Nice comment Jim. I think a lot off people agree with the fact that the comments on motorbike channels are respectfull, i certainly do. Keep up the good work 🛠👌
YES ! The best Bike chanel Love it, I know its hard work Jim making video and doing the repairing aswell but it is much much appreciated by us, cheers mate 😊
i think the reason you dont get bad comments is because the content speaks for itself, real repairs warts and all. F bombs happen it keeps it real. Great vid as always Jim.
Maybe the chanel between the pilots and the idle screw? Or the leaking.diagrams on the one side not letting it idle. 🤔 We have Fath in you Jim. Always great video mate.👍💪cheers.
Mate, I love this channel your content is mint and your explanation 👌 is on point I'm a HGV mechanic and at home Bike mechanic but just love your stuff
Hey mate, I have two Vmax's sitting in my garage a 97' and 99'. on both sets of carbs they're loaded with pozi drive screws. think it might have been a factory thing at some stage in the life cyclye. or somewhere along the line the same bloke has worked on my two bikes aswell hahah
My first guess is something to do with the temp sensing telling the ECU it's not hot. Tis a guess mind lol, keep it going as you are mate, cheers us spanner throwers up!
How loose were the jet rubbers in the jet blocks? Also a 147.5 main works wonders. Ironically I have never had a problem with diaphragms (yet). Also those manifold rubbers are suspect especially with those worm clamps.
We are all one family when we love bikes Jim! It’s a passion and lifestyle we all have a love for so majority of bikers have respect for each other mainly just to waffle about bikes 😂. Love the content waffle and curses makes it a better honest video!.
Jim, another classy video. Please continue to always be yourself and behave like you always do. Swearing is part of that when fixing and pulling this apart with wood screws. As you said, fk the algorithym. You should have done a bit more of an analysis at the beginning with running only on choke. What does putting the choke on do to the carbs -v- taking the choke off. Then we know your thoughts and why pulling the carbs off was the plan.
Hi Jim, I'm really enjoying these videos, thanks. can I ask you a question about a 2003 Yamaha R1? Is it hard to do the valve clearances? I have previously done them on airheads etc, Thanks
That's one clean bike. It looks like you'll be looking after every vmax in the UK soon...... Not sure that will make you happy other grumpy(er). 😂 I agree. Bike people are usually great people.
HI Jim bet you have to mind your language on the air waves i notice your call sign on the screen behind you i just listen in to the airwaves not a ham myself great channel you have here😎 7 3

Also from Aus and have binge watched as many videos as I can since finding this channel. Thanks Jim you do you as this as a real as it gets.

Today’s lesson “Buy F’n JIS screwdrivers”😬. Maybe a set of Superbike Surgery engraved JIS screwdrivers are in order🤔
Such a great idea and have "fucking hell" engraved 😅
And for emergencies - a hammer marked 'does that make sense ?'

just got a set of jis screwdrivers, game changer when stripping my zzr1400

Sounds of pigeons in the background and a bike mechanic frustrations , nothing better , great video Jim.
I bought my JIS screw drivers from the local hobby shop, Tamiya brand, for building rc models, best screw drivers i own.
M7JWR - how interesting. A ham as well. That explains your familiarity with a scope. G1WYM - KTM 1290 SAS, KTM 690 Enduro and 2000 VTR SP1

I am a stickler for proper clips on intake and airbox joints - I find Jubilee clips triggering.

Thank you for more carburetor videos

Great videos all round but the sweary ones crack me up
Wonder what additive they’ve used in the fuel to stop the carb turning to yellow/green bogs being sat all those years??
