  • There are many of us in the music world with an Irish heritage on one side of our family or another, so it's really lovely to hear some of our history especially when it's in the form of a song as beautiful an sad as this one by the lovely Gerry Ffrench. 'The Liverpool Irish' is about one of the darker periods of our history when the 'Pals' regiments were formed during WWI. In 1916 The Liverpool Irish Battalion of The Liverpool Kings Regiment, in true Irish fashion, waded in to the melee with such ferocity that they were soon way ahead of the rest of their fellow soldiers and when the order to fall back came they found themselves cut off from retreat and fought to the very last man. Ireland lost over 500 brave souls that fateful day.
