Sony MHC-NX1 strip down and repair

  • I have never done a video like this before, so I thought it would be worth a try. I don't have a proper work shop, so had to improvise. The reason for doing this was that after 19 years of service, the belts that drive the tape decks had given up and perished. In order to remove the tape deck and access the belts a full strip down was required of the unit. I have tried my best to explain what's going on, but as I've never done a video like this before there's always going to be room for improvement. I hope you find it mildly entertaining and enjoy seeing the unit working as much as I do.

    Re your comment on the volume control, I had a similar problem..... I took the case off, blew all the dust off the whole inside, now works fine !

    Thank you very much, my HCD-GRX10AV/RX110AV seems to have the same deck, and it helped a lot to watch your video because it had some important hints how to handle the middle motor. I was able to repair the directly connected deck yay! But the one on the right side (from behind) there the up/down mechanism of the magnetic head seems to be stuck.

      I'm not sure what lubricant to use on these, but perhaps some kind of lubrication may free the head off?

    • @skybirdification
      @skybirdification 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stephensrailways do you mean the casette audio head? I think I should maybe lubricate all the wheel axles, because meanwhile it seems that over time the audio gets slower and I am not sure if these two defects are maybe connected.

      @@skybirdification I also have a sony rx110av and after having disassembled and reassembled the cassette deck to clean the stereo inside, when I play a cassette I always hear a whistle below (more present on tape b). you say that with some lubricant I solve the problem?

    • @skybirdification
      @skybirdification 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@danielboss6835 I didn't try yet to lubricate anything, I still have the problem that the tape speed slows down but I was to lazy to take it apart again yet, as I mainly targeted on repairing the CD deck (the rubber was gone there too) and that is working fine now. But on my next holiday I will check the casette deck likely again.

    • @stephensrailways

      Yes, the ribbon cable supplies power to the cassette/CD player. Maybe there's a dry joint where it plugs in that's come loose?

      @@stephensrailways Weird my comment keeps disappearing. Anyway opened it up to find these (see link) burnt out. Bought it in the US and run with a step-down converter in UK, but there must have been a surge at some point. Don't see damage elsewhere, any chance that this little board took the brunt and unit is not totally fried? ie small board replaceable?

      @@stephensrailways The little board sits on top of the black plastic chassis surrounding CD. Rethinking it, the power would have surged from the ribbon input all the way up there so it has probably damaged alot more whilst not really visible. Thanks anyway! Don't know if you are still collecting comments but I still have a problem with the auto changer. It changes ok when the trays are falling but not when they rise. The tray is a little low at the rear. Lifting with a finger before it times out engages the cd. Any thoughts?

      Hi, apologies for the slow reply. I have not yet opened my amplifier yet, so unfortunately I'm not sure exactly what the problem could be. I could be a dodgy capacitor, a transistor or anything else for that mattter. If you do find out, please let me know, as it would be a shame to let such a good unit go!
