Unfortunately, in Kenya, most things tend to be overpriced unless they have a price tag. Regardless of who you are, bargaining is essential. In high-end areas, prices are often inflated, but there are also places where you can find the same items for a fraction of the cost. Sad but it is what it is. 🙂
What happens some people used to buy cheap and go and sell them 10x. Again, its a high end area some customers buy them with that price without bargaining. It all depends. Most Kenya is free market economy so you cant blame anyone for overpricing. They are areas you can buy the same items cheaply.
There's a maasai market every Saturday at the CBD at the high court parking, maybe you should visit and find the same items, same quality, more variety of products at probably lower prices.
It doesn’t matter they want to sell it’s up to your negotiation skills. My estimate would’ve told me they acquired that chess board for 2K, give them another 2K for costs & another 2K profit & stand your ground I promise you they’ll sell. I’d get that chess board for 5/6K (40/50$).
