  • At half way through this particular video you'll see me jump into the slip stream of a roadie doing about 23 mph into a mild head wind however I realize that breathing is not optimal yet and heart rate is giving above this days targeted range (This is supposed to be an ultra distance recovery ride from last weeks ride to reset my HRV - Heart Rate Variability which is a statistical measure of the specific changes in the time between successive heartbeats.
    HRV status offers an indication of how my autonomic nervous system is reacting to my environment both physically and psychologically. (Balanced HRV readings may indicate positive signs of health such as good training and recovery balance, greater cardiovascular fitness, more resilience to stress. Unbalanced, low or poor readings may be a sign of fatigue, need for longer recovery cycles, or I might be experiencing more stress than is ideal for me.
    So I alternate between high intensity at extreme miles and low intensity during short rides with occasional high intensity short rides if I find my recovery from the more demanding rides is ahead of schedule or quickening compared to prior weeks experiences.
