A fun, cool car is what makes YOU happy. It may not break any records, but keep life fun for you and your friends. Since I was 16, fun cars I've owned include a 66 Chevelle, 47 Chevrolet Sedan delivery, 53 Gmc 5 Window pickup, 62 Ford stepside, 63 Ford stepside, 66 Caddy hearse, 76 Ranchero GT, 2008 Mustang GT. None of them were fast, but I enjoyed every one of them. Yes, we had "regular" family cars and trucks, but they didn't create much for fond memories. I'm now 70 years old and derive a lot of enjoyment from watching the Wichita TH-cam Car Cabal.
Looking forward to seeing how the C5 turns out and how the new tune works out. My opinion (for what it's worth) on the car's, driver's and teams at the Texas race is that you have amateur driver's and teams who are on a limited budget with car's that are making pro level, NHRA power and the amateur teams just don't have the budget, experience or resources to maintain the car's at the level they need to be at competently compete on reliable level for the length of this type of event. From my experience, at any type of event there is, at best, only a handful of car's that truly stand a chance of winning. At the level these car's are performing at, compared to the budget, resources and experience of most of the teams, the majority of the driver's are doing nothing but tempting fate and in way over their head IMO.
You can have fun in any car, as long as you accept it’s limitations. I used to drive. 74 VW bus around and it was great for what it was. I once beat a manual 98 Camaro with my stock 89 Civic at a stoplight. He missed a gear and stalled at the light lol. Good memories
For a daily driver, 450-500 is a great range to be in. There’s no fun on something with 1000hp on the street. You’ll have a ton of fun with that Vette, because you can push it a little and not end up in a ditch.
I guess there’s still something to be said for bracket racing? I still remember driving my SHO and my buddy’s Z28 with 430HP to the wheels. The SHO was fun, but that Camaro was next level. I couldn’t imagine driving 1,000+HP.
I hear you there on the reminiscing, no one runs anything with less than 8 cylinders at my local strip here. Its all v-8/big blocks or go home which is sad as I want to feel included with my tiny 4 cyl.
I know what you mean about power now. In 2010 I had a Saab 9-5 2300cc that hads modification to engine, turbo, ECU, exhaust system, suspension, brakes and lightweight wheels. Produced 304 bhp, and could be pushed hard through bends. Could beat most "German" cars of the time. Now 300bhp is nothing to talk about (it was in 2010). I miss those days too.
Once you get everything dialed in and tightened up this is gonna be one sweet beast! Can’t wait to see the end product. You will have to film a couple track runs and a dyno run as well.
I think like you about the old Days ! Now a simple golf R stage 2 Can destroy Most of the 90' sport car ! I got a c5 too and enjoy to see IT in details when the body was off
JR....the big money collectors have driven the prices high All I wanted was a 59 Cadillac coupe... Not for art... Just because I'm a black guy from the south who wants his own style But now 65k+ It's a shame
I still love my (long parked) 1978 Scirocco… 78HP, but a hell of a lot of fun to drive, I don’t know many cars feel as “fast” at legal highway speeds. :)
I have been watching you for I think close to 4 years and I think this is one if not the only video I have seen you with a flatbill hat on lol definitely a whole new JR
I remember when that track was in Dickinson, TX and they used to have jet-powered funny cars. I even saw Shockwave the jet powered semi there.. On Fridays guys could bring their homemade hot rods and run them on the track.
It's good to get away, you deserve it. Been watching you for a long time and you've been hustling It's amazing how far you've come, keep growing love it..
I quit going to things like TX2K when the millionaire TH-camrs made it impossible for a working guy to bring his car to the track and have a chance to even place, let alone win. Now if you aren't a money bags TH-camr with a $250,000 engine/drive train build you don't have a chance.
You don’t have to remove the injectors to crank the engine…do a “clear flood crank” !!…gas pedal to the floor and hold it there…now you can crank the engine…injectors are disabled !!
I only do Miatas, so 500 horsepower is the TOP end of my world. LOL Before Miatas I was in the LS1 world, but I got super bored with drag racing. Sit around in the hot sun for an hour, make one pass, lather, rinse, repeat. Yawn. Now I do 200+ mile drives on curvy mountain roads... way more fun.
Totally off topic. But we just got a glimpse of Jon Ross’ 50 something, “A Florida Man” in a tracksuit aesthetic!!! 🤣🤣🤣 On topic, I’ve been looking at aftermarket ecu setups and I’m really impressed by Haltech and their Elite 1500/2500 setups.
@@SteveBassen unfortunately not with a cam installed. It would never start up without the intake installed because the maf isn't getting the appropriate air flowing through it to provide the correct amount of fuel.
I saw an awful lot of 200+ cars with no parachutes. It baffles me, with all of the safety they're required to have. It's common knowledge that you don't hit your brakes hard at high speeds or you're more likely to spin out right? That first day there was a strong wind though, so that played into it I suppose.
JR- I think most of us have gotten to a point where we are a part of a scene, but, that "scene" keeps evolving and changing, and we make the decision "I can't keep up with this anymore", or "I don't want to spend that kind of money on this anymore" and eventually "It was so much better back in the day"..... happens to most of us.
Sincerely, you need an amazing name for the facility. It's not a warehouse as you called it in the intro. Call it JR's house. JR's love shack. Something better than "warehouse".
Was Durrell ever properly introduced or did I miss a video? He’s doing great work 👍
He just sorta slid in sneaky like.
His reaction to the startup spoke volumes to how cool it was compared to what the camera captured 😂
He mentioned him on his live stream from the Texas 2K. I think his name is Darnel not Durrel but I'm not 100% on that.
I wondered the same thing. I missed too it if he was.
Yeah Mr JR will you introduce the mystery Durrell,Darnel? We all missed it somehow. Loved that startup. That cam was coughing. 💪

Yep, I have 2 Novas. One V8 and one L6. Totally in love with the L6, slow as it is.
@@exlimey1417 Have you checked out Junkyard Mooks Burnt out Nova ?
Wow! Love the camera guy. He does a nice job.
Glad you’re back but really glad that you got to take a breather from your hectic pace.
I don’t know another auto TH-camr that has daily uploads .
Especially since JR is mostly a 1 man show my dude should get someone to edit for him
It would be nice to have an itemized parts and cost list.
HILARIOUS!!! I remember when you could get a cam, headers and intake to make your 440 break into the 12's. That was FLYING!!
Im comfortable in my 07’ Fiat Grande Punto(good hatchback) with 77 hp(57 kw :-D) i live in Denmark we dont need these numbers in power xD

Finally got it uploaded! Yess!
It's just too fast for most people. Met Erica Enders at Houston. It's her home track.
Been waiting for this! Literally clicked off another YT channel when this notification popped up.
Same lol

I looked your Channel for a Long Time and it's the best DIY and Entertaining Channel to watch !
Learning and have fun !

American V8s are amazing, great job with the progress on this build JR, can’t wait to see more…
excellent. been waiting for this
What kind of cars does Durrell have and does he have any projects
Can't wait to see the finished product.
A wild Durrell appears!

I love the use of the Blutooth funnel!!!!

A classic mini at 90MPH at night. fantastic and terrifying
I had a 1984 Skylark, which is a fairly roomy small car and it still felt like I was driving a go-cart with a roof going down the highway.
That car is a BEAST!!
JR - Paint those plastic valve covers red to make it obvious that is a LS6 engine, not just a base LS1.
Great video from JR.
Open headers, raw gas, eye burning fun. The good old days for me at 1 am because you just had to hear it run before you went home.
* Watch JR go to O'Reilly's *
* Hit em up again *
* Ad pops up for... O'Reilly's *
Gotta love the synergy. 😁
Since the Baytown track is going away, maybe they can start using the Texas Motorplex in Ennis and keep it going.
I’m thrown off guard… you have a hat on? 😂
Bad haircut?
I am so glad you pointed that out. I seriously kept trying to figure out what seemed off.
Had to switch it up 🧢

I remember thinking 11.1 was really fast on an LS anything. Now that is just evidence of a poor driver apparently. I still like my slow C5!
Whoa. John Ross in a ball cap?! What is this. lol agree that cars are way too fast now
I heard them MSD coils burn spark plugs and they fail early
Keep us posted on them I was considering getting some for my build

Yay white Vette
About time to detail it! 🧽
I def want to see the machining of the wheels. Always wanted to see someone make not fit wheels fit.
The good old days back in the early to mid 2000’s
should connect the maf and the throttle body together for it to start.
Most modern ECUs will default to speed density with the MAF disconnected and run reasonably well as a fail safe

You don't have to have a 8 second car to have fun. I'm building a 5.0w powered 04 mustang
I need a white vette. I'll buy this one when you get it done. But you can keep the hats.
Remembering your Nissan Z drift car. It didn't want to run at first either.
TX2K sounds like a great time but I'm glad you're back. We missed you. When will the full exhaust system get installed?
