You can perfectly use dual channel in 8+8 gb ram. You can also go for 8+16 gb ram, but it will work on flex mode
You can use other brand ram but Match the specs like timings etc.

I would suggest use 8 GB + 8gb of same frequency rather than 8 GB + 16gb of same frequency. Now you ask me why, because ram of same size like 8+8 or 16+16 create dual channel that will boost your performance than 8+16
