Cividale del Friuli ( Udine )

Cividale del Friuli was founded in Roman times by Julius Caesar with the name of Forum Iulii, from which the whole region took its name, became the capital of the Lombard Duchy of Friuli, of the Friulian Marca and temporal capital of the Patriarchate of Aquileia. Among the artistic and architectural testimonies of the city stand out:
- Palazzo Comunale, a gothic brick building resulting from alterations carried out between 1545 and 1588 to the pre-existing 13th century building;
- Palazzo dei Provveditori Veneto, built between 1565 and 1605 on a model by Palladio, houses the National Archaeological Museum of Cividale del Friuli;
- Medieval house, in Borgo Brossana, dating back to the fourteenth century;
- Various noble residences including Palazzo de Nordis (16th century); Paciani palace (16th century); Craigher-Canussio castle (14th-19th century) and Pontotti-Brosadola palace (18th century)
- Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta (XV - XVI century);
- Monastery of Santa Maria in Valle (seventh century), the monastic complex was built in the mid-seventh century to house the Benedictine nuns, and in addition to the monastery it consists of the church of San Giovanni in Valle (seventh century), the cloister and of the refectory hall, on the south side of the building it is possible to see the oldest wall structures which partly incorporate the Lombard Temple (8th century).
- Church of San Francesco, built in the 13th century, now deconsecrated and used for temporary exhibitions and events.

Militare da inizio marzo 1989 fino al 25 gennaio 1990, cittadina bellissima mi è rimasta nel cuore, entro l'estate prossima verrò con mia moglie, voglio rivedere la caserma francescatto, dove ho trascorso mesi bellissimi e indimenticabili. Saluti.
