I had a 2020 wrx and now have a 22. I agree with you on the differences. All I had to do was drive a 22 vb to realize it is a superior car in every way and like you, loved my 2020.

I think the bumper and flares just took people by surprise. But every generation of WRX takes people by surprise. In another year or two, more folks will adapt to the looks. Ownership makes you adapt to it quickly, and I actually love how unique the whole package looks. I’ve only owned my VB for a week. Of course the VB handling so well and all that torque has helped me love it so much.
😂😂 The baby chair was super funny to me when you brought it out. I’ve had a 2004 WRX, 2005 WRX Wagon, 2007 STi for 8 years and now my 2022.. the VB is by far my favorite car in every aspect. Still stock for now, kind of waiting for more R&D to be done with aftermarket parts, I only want to buy the best stuff one time and not change it every few months when new revisions come out.. I’ve had it since August and it has 1700 miles on it. I only drive short distances as I live in a really populated area and everything is super close. I think it’s a beautiful car and I’m #teamhoneycomb all day. This is an AWD rally car, not a Porsche sports car like some people tend to believe. I've got a 2022 base. This summer I will spend half with 0W-20 and half with 0W-30 or 0W-40, performing a Blackstone oil analysis on each. The one with less wear is the one I'll go with.

I’m on my second 22 WRX. The other one was Sapphire Blue and now I’m rocking the Ignition Red. It’s my fifth new WRX. The first one being a 2011 WRX when I was 20 and bought the car without knowing how to drive stick. Then I got a 2015 WRX, then a 2018 WRX and then two 22s. I left once for a GTI but back to Subaru. If I had the money I would probably get a Golf R tho. Either way I love this car and doing a FULL sound system already with less than 1k miles on the Ignition Red WRX that was built December. I always get the six speed manuals but would be open to a DCT if they had one like the GTI. That was the only automatic car I ever owned and it was not too shabby.
Super informative for us folks sitting on the sidelines. Sounds like most of the car’s cons would have been addressed in an STI trim… but alas, the Subaru gods have refused those requests. Still looks like a great car… especially for the price in the current landscape of performance sedans and hatchbacks.
@HeavyMetalWRX everytime I shift I can feel the syncros still spinning into the gear. It feels like the pedal is not depressed enough, even though I have the pedal pressed down to the floor
Nice video. I love my 22 Sapphire Blue. I can't wait to tune it but I want to use up the drivetrain warranty first. So I drive it everywhere I can. The lack of armrest SUCKS though. That's annoying. I sum this car up as basically the reincarnation of the 2005 to 2008 Legacy 2.5GT.

I have a 2019 Wrx and drag race it and do the occasional mexico runs. Last year on the drive home from work the 3rd gear shift fork snapped in half. I had it rebuilt and put a fx400 clutch in it and it only lasted me a year when it again broke on my way home (3rd gear shredded its teeth)decided to pull the trigger and do the sti drivetrain swap and it makes a huge difference and is the best mod I've done to the car (also most expensive). For sure wait until your transmission let's go but it really is not worth it to rebuild or buy a new wrx transmission. Don't make my mistake and waste money on weak transmission especially if you want to make more than 370tq.
Great video. Stick with 5w30 GF-6 oil. It's the sweet spot for viscosity with the current oil technology. There is no need to order some special exotic oil either (not talking about Amsoil because they are pretty good) The big name oil brands provide WAY better protection and are half the price.
I am in S. TX and gonna switch over to 5w30 Motul in a few months. In our weather I will feel it will be fine year round with 5w30 and I appreciate you doing the work on the mpg differences. My wife’s q5 is a different story. I run Motul specific 0w20 508/509 since that is what Audi requires. She occasionally goes in dynamic mode but she does not beat on it. I will take Subaru engine problems vs Audi any day. 😂
I felt exactly the same way you currently do in regards to coilovers. Anytime I have lowered a car in the past, I've had to sacrifice comfort and reliability. I ended up biting the bullet and going with FortuneAuto Gen 8 500s, and my God, the ride is actually more comfortable than stock/way more responsive. I was reluctant at first, but my friends with VBs ended up going with Cyngus and FA, both having great experiences. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Cyngus and FortuneAuto are both the same people, but either way, nothing but glowing reviews about Cyngus from friends I've talked to, and I can personally say that my FortuneAutos are the best coilovers I've ever had. The con of course is not being able to safely run a front lip since all the current ones do hang pretty low. I hope in the future there will be an aftermarket lip that doesn't drag down. The OEM one seems to be a safe height, but that's a lot of money to gamble smashing up hahaha. Keep up the awesome content man!
Oh man Geoff Cygnus and I have a rocky history. When I had 100 subscribers I made my first video and post it on the FB group he runs. He got into an argument with me for 3 hours. I didn't curse at him, I didn't call him names, I didn't even say anything negative. I was defending another person's pov and he went batshit crazy on me. Said I was worthless, my channel is garbage, I'm garbage, I don't know anything, I'm old etc etc. I still have screen shots. Then he kicked me out of the group. I joined the one I'm in now and he FOLLOWED ME to post on my posts about how he gets 10000s of views on TikTok and I'll never be anything. I know this has nothing to do directly with Cygnus but he is an awful person and his coilovers are just rebranded. There are entire subreddits dedicated to people he has fought with. I can never support him. 🤣

Great video. Personally, I was always okay with the look, then over time I grew to love. I have always thought of the wrx as a rally inspired car, and the fenders just make sense for off-road driving. Also, I think the body shape is an improvement from previous models.
STI box. Not sure how much will be involved, but I would be looking to buy a used box etc, and have it rebuilt. I think Tanner had a gearbox guy that might be economical to use.

@@doa1124 I wouldn't worry too much. What happened to the BRZ was a specific instance and since then we haven't had any issues. The WRX has a 360 pickup which means even if one side had some rtv it doesn't effect it's oil pickup. I believe it's really blown out of proportion.
Hey question how would you rate the Base speakers in the WRX (Not the Harmon Kardons). I'm looking to buy one of these in a Premium trim and music flow in my car is a big thing.
If you want to listen to music I would suggest getting the speaker upgrade and installing them yourself. There's many videos and you can get great sound for about $300-400. This way you can pick the speakers you want. The HK package is $1800 and comes packaged with the sunroof. I will eventually be upgrading my speakers as well because I love music. The base speakers are terrible beyond belief and I feel like the HK is too expensive.

These are the stock Dunlops on Vors TR4 18x9.5 +22 offset. So I got this one sorry from a company called "onecarstereo". It functions as a wireless Android Auto. Except it doesn't work for my car. It works for my wife's Volvo 🤣. I was so mad. I've had it for 2 months. I'll look into the Motorola one because I'd love to have wireless AA. Do you have a link ?
@heavymetal, have you made a video about the rtv or whatever it’s called, I know u know about it but haven’t found a vid on the issue and solution. I feel like it needs to be addressed.
So been talking to all the tuners and techs I've found so far. I believe people are blowing it out of proportion. It does need to be resolved but it's not an immediate issue. All my oil changes have been 100% clean so far and when killer b comes out with their secondary pickup up then I'll drop the oil pan and do the cleanup/ install.
I have a 22 WRX with around 3500km now. The clutch pedal also squeaks, but only when it's cold. I might try spraying some lubricant on the pedal assembly. If you haven't already asked this in Tuner Talk, would 0w-30 be a good alternative for performance driving with good cold weather starting? Thanks!
I don't think I fully understand the question. Are you wanting to know if the infotainment comes with apple car play? If so both the base and premium displays come with it.
@@AlanAnt my mistake. I assumed that since I plugged it in for Android Auto that it was assumed that CarPlay also requires a cable. I don't have an iPhone so sometimes I forget the apple crowd 😂

Squeak could be the throw out bearing. It was on my VA

How do you like those mudflaps? Do they make any noise when you're going over certain speeds?
I haven't really noticed anything of any difference since getting them installed. No extra noise or interference of any kind.

I don't think I fully understand the question. Are you wanting to know if the infotainment comes with apple car play? If so both the base and premium displays come with it.

He should’ve mentioned for Apple CarPlay you have to plug the phone in. It is not wireless.
@@AlanAnt my mistake. I assumed that since I plugged it in for Android Auto that it was assumed that CarPlay also requires a cable. I don't have an iPhone so sometimes I forget the apple crowd 😂

@@HeavyMetalWRX I’m not hurt thankfully, it was mostly all undercarriage damage. I loved the car but I’m probably going to finance a different kind of sports car just to try new things. I still have my bugeye wrx anyways I guess

Im not just yet. I am waiting for killer b to drop their secondary basket. Once they do I'll drop the oil pan for the install. I think it'll be ok the way it is.
