      Awesome idea! I reckon they could turn drop a duramax into a Lexus LFA too or a K20 in a Murcielago. 2JZ S-class, anyone?

    Can you get the LSses to rev as deliciously high as the stock Porsche engines?

    • @seanhenry8030
      @seanhenry8030 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Seeing as most Porsche engines rev out at 6500-8000 in stock form, which you specified, yes. It's really not that hard to make a rev happy small block of any flavor. Big bore, short stroke, proper balance, roller valvetrain, good tune, done. If you're in North America, tons of shops can do this for you. Easy peezy, lemon squeezey.

    • @Runoratsu
      @Runoratsu 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dunno, from all I've seen they usually have a pretty steep fall-off of the torque curve from about 5000, 5500 rpms. Maybe the push rod valvetrains can't keep up that well (vs the usual DOHC in European cars)?
      Of course they make more torque down low than the rev-happier engines, but the latter is just a type i enjoy more.
      But yeah, I bet if someone knows what they're doing they can get them to rev as well, I've just yet to see one of those.
      I'm based in Germany btw ;)

    • @BKathos
      @BKathos 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ls motors all rev pretty easily up past 6500. My 418 stroker made 550rwhp from 5800-6500 flat and still made above 540 at 6800. and i still had factory rockers and steel valves. maybe you are talking about old small blocks?

    • @seanhenry8030
      @seanhenry8030 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're doing poor research if you think a small block can't rev. There's a lot them out there that can, no brand preference needed either. Ford, Mopar, and GM all have offerings able to make high power at high rpm. You can type 7000, 8000, or 9000 rpm small block into youtube, or just google for plenty of evidence. I understand not everyone loves them, but for compact power a well setup OHV small block is almost impossible to beat. No other engine will give you 400-500 whp as reliably. You being based in Germany would make all the difference, if you understood how low cost and ubiquitous the small block V8 was in North America, it would make even more sense. You think you can get a running gen 3 SBC, ford 5.0, or 5.7 Hemi for around $350 if you know where to look. Once you taste that sweet V8 nectar, it's difficult to go back.

    • @Runoratsu
      @Runoratsu 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh, don't get me wrong, I don't doubt it's possible, and I know there are ones revving pretty high. It's just that every dyno plot I've seen of them (even higher revving ones), they still had their max torque somewhere around 5000, 5500, and then that fell off, so the power curve flattened out or even decreased slightly, while Japanese or European engines seemed more usually to have less torque down low, but peak somewhere near their rev limit.
      It's just another characteristic.
      I love how the bigger displacement V8s sound at low rpms tho, and I wish you could get engines as cheaply here as you can in the US. On the other hand, you probably still wouldn't be allowed to run them here, but that's another topic xP

  • @Emerald012

    Dave wouldn't that radiator location create lift?

    • @aussiebloke609
      @aussiebloke609 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Possibly a little - mostly by allowing more air under the car. It would have been better to tilt the rad the other way and exit the hot air through the hood...but there's not really enough room to tilt the rad that way without it getting in the way of the fuel cell. But with the engine's centre of gravity a bit higher than the original flat 6 - and probably being a little heavier since it's not air cooled (and I'm no expert, but I _think_ all the 911s are air-cooled still)...I suspect it won't balance quite as well at the limit anyway. Traction should be good with those size tyres though, and you can make up for a slightly messed-up balance with that additional mechanical grip - right up to the point that you push just past the limits of the tyres (which is exactly what Porsche did with the earlier 911 Turbo/930 models - the so-called "Widowmaker" - when they discovered the problems of big power and speed combined with a rear engine layout), so no foul in that regard. It will be interesting to see how it does on the limit in a race situation - and I really don't want to see something all tail-happy and sideways. *crosses fingers that we get to see the end result*

    • @boost3d831
      @boost3d831 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Emerald012 yes it will... sw20 mr2s have that setup where radiator air flows under the car and anything above 180km/h feels pretty sketchy because the front end gets so light. ducting through the hood is a great way to improve downforce, i don't know why anyone would think that this is a good solution other than for convenience. I guess this car is just going to be for show?

      +aussiebloke609 All 911's from the 996 onwards are watercooled, the 993 (the generation after the car in this video, which is a 964) was the last generation of 911 to come aircooled.

      P Kuudsk the later aircooled engines were set very low in the rear to get the center of gravity lower to help the tail happiness of the 911. Now the center of gravity is higher than any 911 engine. He also decreased the value of the car he didn’t save it.

    those tires aren't as bad as dan thinks they will be, sure a twin turbo v8 will smoke them, but they stick really well compared to others I've run
    and the best part about them is they are really good in the wet, not like 595s or re 003, dry and wet they are better from personal experience, and they don't take long to heat up nor do they seem to over heat
    try them guys, they are good to track / daily on

      its called capitalism
      he found a demand that enkei wasnt willing or able to supply, so he created one. besides, imitation is the best form of flattery.
      also its pretty hard to 'steal' a design considering he likely didnt have access to any of the original drafts. the style of the face itself is derivative and he admits it, but thats definitely not stealing.
