Gerber CENTER-DRIVE dominates Leatherman OHT in the Extreme Cutting Test of a multi-strand cable !

  • Previously, I tested all Leatherman multi-tools with replaceable wire cutters (Signal / Super Tool 300 / Surge / Rebar / Wave⊕ / Charge⊕/ Charge⊕ TTI) and all failed.
    What should be deduced ? Because the Gerber Legend (MP 800), with the same carbide replaceable wire cutters as the Center-Drive, also failed this test.

      Gerbe centerdrive IS PREMIUN.
      I really didn't think it would be good, but when it comes, have noticed that was more strong than leatherman and victorinox. And very well constructed.
      But Have a only big fail:CARBIDE WIRE CUTTER.
      The serrated blade seems to be terrible(not very sharp) but is designed for extremely rough tasks!
      All the rest is very good!
      Center bit driver one handed
      Super long knife
      Extremely robust and spring loaded pliers.
      Quality construction.
      It's very difficult to broke a centerdrive compared with leatherman that is more delicate.

      @@fc436 i broke the center drive after a week of carrying it. Im an industrial maintenance tech so my edc must be robust. And the center drive just didnt cut it for me. I enjoyed the bit driver but the plier head broke and so did the carbide cutters. Also the blade steel did not seem like the best. Iv carried and abused my victorinox for 3 years now and it has handled everything very well.

    • @fc436
      @fc436 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@gtlogic2362 victorinox also is very strong.
      But the center drive seems to me, stronger than my surge or charge.
      Especially the theets of the pliers, that in my victorinox spirit and leatherman bend on the sides, in centerdrive are surprisingly not bendet at the time.
      It seems like the steels of chassis and pliers is heat treated differently from leatherman. And is the same 420hc.
      Maybe is more frigile i don't now.. But sure is harder.
      The principle blade have a wide sharp angle and I put a angle like leatherman and is razor sharp.
      But I don't know if edge retention is better on gerber or leatherman...maybe Leatherman treatment is better but I don't have noted.
      The serrated blade is terrible, or seems terrible, but probably on purpose, for hard duty cuts. It's more like a saw.
      I think is a great tools. And when I bought it, only out of curiosity and collection , I was expecting a low quality.
      But when it arrived, I was very surprised by the quality construction. Except the terrible terrible idea of pure carbide wire cutters!

    why did you use the "heavy cutting" part on the CD but the "fine cutting" part on the Leatherman? Use the same for both, othervise its not a fair comparison

    • @diezelle57
      @diezelle57  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For the simple reason that the "heavy cutting" part does not completely resemble: with closed pliers, there is a hole of Ø 1 mm. But rest assured, the Center-Drive's carbide cable cutter proves to be brittle with hard wires or nails.

      Thanks for the answer. I have a wave and a CD and I feel the CD is a piece of crap... :P

    • @diezelle57
      @diezelle57  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I see the following problems with Center-Drive:
      - the inserts cutter are brittle (they are positioned cantilevered in their housing),
      - these inserts are more expensive than those of the Leatherman,
      - the file does not have three useful faces,
      - no saw (but the OHT does not have a file).

    • @grasvard
      @grasvard 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I dont like that the serrated blade is so dull, and that the construction of it makes the head rattle and not feel as sturdy as the wave. I like the driver and the little crowbar-thingy, but over all, I feel that it is very expensive for the poor quality. Its not bad for a tool costing say 40-50 bucks, but around a 100? nah.. :P

    • @diezelle57
      @diezelle57  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As I mentioned, the Center-Drive must be compared to the OHT because it is a response from Gerber to Leatherman after the patent on the sliding pliers fell into the public domain.
      OHT : 90 $.
      Center-Drive with bit kit : 115 $.

    Bonjour j'aimerais acheter le gerber center drive mais d'après de nombreuse remarque le coupé fil cassé vraiment facilement donc j'aimerais savoir si c'est toujours le cas et jusqu'ou on peut allez ( exemple petit fil de fer , fil barbelé , clou ) je vous remercie d'avance

    • @diezelle57
      @diezelle57  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oui, c'est le problème des inserts en carbure de tungstène adoptés par Gerber, ils peuvent casser et il faut alors les remplacer. Leatherman a préféré utiliser un acier dur (154CM) qui peut se mater mais pas se casser. J'ai cassé des inserts Gerber en coupant un clou et, vu le prix de ceux-ci, je n'ai pas fait d'autres tests. Pour du fil barbelé, il ne devrait pas y avoir de casse mais pour de la corde à piano ... Le Center-Drive est un bon multi-tool mais il faut tenir compte de la faiblesse du coupe-câble. Le Leatherman Surge serait une solution plus judicieuse. Dans tous les cas, il ne faut pas abuser et prendre un multi-tool pour une pince Knipex ! :) th-cam.com/video/NUTsQYtl4Gc/w-d-xo.html

Example I worked in a moving company in Italy, and often the heavy toolbox was on one floor of the building and we went to various places or floors without carrying it around. And if I had a MT you saved yourself a lot of stairs and effort.
      Clearly if the foreman saw me disassemble a 2mx4m wardrobe with the leatherman instead of the Makita electric screwdriver, he would have fired me.

      I fully understood your message and I answered it clearly.
      You said "obviously", so about the result of my test in the video, and I told you clearly that it was not so simple!
      As for your history of hexagonal screw (bolt with hexagonal head) with a broken handle ST300, this is outright fabulation or a model obviously having a large manufacturing defect.
      I am the world specialist multi-tool, do not come and tell me anything.

      I did not say it broke, I said I almost broke it. I was turning it to get the Hex screw off and the handle was bending because it could not take the full stress like you would using the plier portion of the tool, but the MP600 did because the handle is smaller. If you were the worlds specialist of multitools you would clearly know what I was talking about, But you are not and making such a claim is rediculous and arrogant. I took back my thumbs up, and unsubscribed but you already know that because you are the specialist, right??

      In addition to being confused, you are insolent! :)
      I give no credit to your explanations defying the reassuring laws of physics.
      The MP600 is a second-rate multi-tool and GERBER continues to multiply design problems, model after model.
      Fortunately, perfection is in this world with LEATHERMAN! :)
