yeah haha one of the worst part is that weird news segment where they show tortimer and allege that he is a guy from california who talks to kids. it should be on youtube
@@plushiepath I just found it as a video from over a decade ago. i’m so at a loss for words LMAO thank you for introducing this hell content to me. journalism lives on
I remember that. It's hilarious how difficult it is to explain video game concepts to older people. I remember when I was little, my older sister just to bully me would delete my save game files. I complained to my Dad that my sister deleted "my games," and he flipped out at her, mistakenly thinking she was sonehow deleting the actual entire $50 games. She had a difficult time trying to explain to him what "save progress files" were, and that she wasn't destroying the expensive games. Needless to say, at least she stopped doing that afterwards.
YES! i agree so much. they should have patched them in. even if they were super hard to get, i’d rather grind for them than not have them. they looked so pretty
It could've been like Bell Trees, the day after a meteor shower perhaps the glowing spot the next day would instead include a star fragment that you could grow into a star fragment tree there, but they only produce once then just act like regular trees.
I think they should have been included as a purely decorative item, like you can shake them but the stars won't fall. That would stop farming but still be pretty!
Also, it's a videogame??? You can torture animals all day in videogames and it won't hurt a single actual animal. They're literally just virtue signaling. I'm vegan and unless I'm doing a stupid challenge that I made up (Metal Gear Solid 3 is fun to do a vegan challenge run on.) none of my videogame characters are vegan, because I care about real animals, not just virtue signaling in a videogame. Such a waste of resources. I'm sure somebody donated to PETA and didn't realize that money was going to buying freaking Nintendo Switches for their social media team.
The spacebuns thing teaches one hell of a lesson. If you're fighting for "justice" by doxxing and harassing people, you're *probably not the good guy.*
And it could even be a white person speaking on the other side of the screen. Reminds me of the situation with Mario wearing a sombrero that the Americans complained about but the Mexicans loved.
@@Tsathoggua616it WAS a white person initially, you can tell by the way they talk in the first person when referring to white people. I’m all for people defending what they think is right. But come on, it’s a HAIRSTYLE
I think statues that show genitals isn't a bad thing. It's art, nudity is not something that's supposed to be shown with sex in mind but if it's just a piece of art there's nothing wrong with it. I understand that some people have an other opinion, and I respect that. Hope you all have a good day
i agree and i think the statues are pretty. i am glad nintendo kept them and i thought it was super interesting how people had different views on them. (also the memes were funny!)
Agree. I imagine the only people who cared about this were the extreme conservative Christian type just looking for things to call out. Generally though, in dealing with classic art works this kind of nudity isn't something that gets censored. They're even in textbooks young kids get. It's almost the equivalent of medical drawings.
Agreed. Honestly it’s just the human body. C’mon anyone can look up the Statue of David and see him in all his naked glory. It’s not like it’s very detailed anyway
I agree actually. I have absolutely no issue with statues having genitalia in the game. They are art pieces based on real art. However, being the devil's advocate, I understand the other side. But personally, I have no issue with the statues.
They aren’t appropriate for kids though. I understand that it’s art, but there’s art that’s only meant for adults or kids over a certain age. You wouldn’t let your 10 year old read an adult novel for example. They don’t even show kids medical drawings until 12/13 at the youngest anyways.
I remember I GRINDED to get 200 NMT and 2 million Bells back in lockdown so I could get Raymond, only for the person selling to scam me. I was so ready to give up, but then a really kind person on Discord said they had him on their island and didn't really like him much so they let me have him. I really saw the worst and best of the fandom on that day, though this experience has lead me to not really post or interract in Animal Crossing fandom spaces anymore.
i am so sorry that happend. i am glad someone offered to help and i hope you’ll have more positive experiences. it sucks when a few people spoil the fun for everyone
Another controversy you forgot to mention was the fact you couldnt have a darker skin tone in the older games without staying on tortimers island for hours and getting a “tan” new horizons is the first game where the character can be darker skin than one by default
I never even thought about that as a kid until the mobile game gave us options for skin tones. It was only then that I thought “dang, I never could make my villager really look like me…”
@ocean Even though plenty of people in Japan have varying skintones I never said anything complaining about the lack of options… I never had a problem with it since I didn’t even realize playing the game as a kid that there wasn’t a skin tone option until they added one in the mobile game. I guess with it being revolved around humans in a animal inhabited world it didn’t faze me. But if it was an issue if someone did want an option it’s not just for Americans or Japanese, the entire world has people of different skintones from different ethnicities and nationalities. It makes sense why it wouldn’t be added until post New Leaf because that was most universally popular game in the franchise at the time.
In the first game, it's not that the villagers are mean. They have to get to know you. The longer you interact with them, the nicer dialogue you got. Especially with cranky villagers, they turned into gruff but sweet grandpa types once they liked you.
I honestly still really miss that progression. The villagers in the first game were so much more dynamic than they are in later releases. Honestly, I wish they would focus on developing more personality types and making more dynamic dialogue and progression of the interactions between villagers and the player, rather than just adding more and more villagers.
Nope, there was no such mechanic where villagers got nicer the more you talked to them. It was just completely random and even normal and lazy villagers could get surprisingly nasty.
Exactly, maybe Nintendo forced the company to be kid friendly at all costs but it's not fun to just have a villager move in and say "oh hello best friend, I just met you and I love you.
@@HeruruMeruru Are you kidding ? This guy Angus scared me so much at first and now he calls me like "kiddo" and is super nice and protective towards me
I remember meeting a lot of cool people in New Leaf. Once a friend and i met a Japanese housewife on tortimers island. She said she played the game to pass the time while her kid was at school. We fished and caught bugs together, it was a lot of fun.
The exact opposite of wholesome: One time playing online in NL I met a random player. My irl friend took the DS from me and typed in something derogatory and gave me the DS back. The person I was talking to then started counting down from 5. Honestly the scariest moment of my life and I felt so bad
I just want to point out something with the "evil Tom Nook" thing. Most people who starts playing Animal Crossing starts when they're a minor still living with their parents. Most people who continues the games continues well into their adulthood after they get thrust into the world of paying bills. To a child, having a landlord who keeps charging you a lot of money for upgrades to your house seems evil, but any adult would love a landlord who doesn't expect you to pay off your mortgage before a certain time, won't kick you out if you don't, will let you sell them things for money to use for their mortgage, and will upgrade your house once your mortgage is paid off. Plus Nook probably pays for your utilities since you don't have to pay for those in the games. Basically as a kid he's an annoying greedy tanuki, but as an adult he's the best landlord one can ask for.
i agree that nook comes off better the more you understand about the world, but forcing you to get upgrades and keeping you trapped in a constant cycle of debt is a litttttle predatory (i'm kind of sad that apsect got phased out, i love scummy nook.)
I've always found Nook totally endearing. He gives you the house in the first game at a huge initial loss, he helps you get situated in town by giving you a job and teaching you how things work in the village, and there's literally no pressure to pay him back *at all*. In future games it goes more in-depth on his backstory as an orphan, how he adopted Timmy & Tommy, his charity work, donations, etc. He's a good guy and people give him a hard time because it's a fitting stereotype and easy to meme, which I get. But personally I've always gotten a 'kindhearted uncle' kind of vibe off of him. Like he wants to run his business, but he'd look out for you too.
I just found out why only “one island per console”… the original game (which had the same 1 town per console feature) was the creators way of sharing a gaming experience with his family, despite him working late hours… he wanted a game his whole family could all interact with… he’d get home from work late at night and see what his kids built in the game, and vice versa when the kids came home from school, they’d see what progress their dad had made even tho he wasn’t there at that exact moment… It’s actually an incredible sweet gesture and makes me okay with the “one island per console” thing BECAUSE it was a pure family driven choice from the moment of the games inception.
In the Olden Times, Animal Crossing came with its own dedicated memory card, when most people also already had one for their GameCube, so you could, by default, have more than one town if you wanted, and each individual memory card didn't cost an additional 300$. That might have worked back then, but that excuse just doesn't fly anymore in modern times. It should be OPTIONAL.
My issue is that with the DS, my sisters and I shared a DS but we had 3 copies of AC so we had individual islands and then when I was ready to buy an extra digital copy of ACNH I was disappointed
Its always so funny to me, how media with violent/mature content usually have very welcoming/wholesome fanbases, while media with cutesy content (and/or targeted towards kids) have super toxic and drama filled fanbases.
Um, I've put about 600 hrs each into the past four games and I've never had drama and toxic behaviors. Rare if that. You guys are either over acting or hanging around the wrong groups
@@LostMatcha if you’ve never or rarely encountered toxicity & drama in the AC fandom you have either never joined an AC community with a large population of members/users or you’re one of the many in these communities who are toxic and engage in drama. seeing that you’re only defense for the AH community being toxic & drama filled is that we, and many others, are just “overreacting”; that alone leads me to believe that you’re a part of the latter category
interesting how much city folk is hated, i didn’t know it was so controversial in the fandom! i think i liked it for the same reason others disliked it; to me it felt like a “cleaner” wild world with more features. wild world in general is kind of a black sheep (less hills in town, all players in one house, no secondary locations outside of town, etc) in design so i think city folk was a good addition to the lineup since it brought back a lot of features but also brought some of the improvements from ACWW! i’ve played all the games and city folk is probably what i would consider a quintessential animal crossing because there’s a lot of “middle ground” between features. maybe that makes it bland to some, but i think it’s balanced.
that’s interesting! i feel like fans were just expecting something “newer” when Nintendo announced city folk. and you are completely right - looking at the development of city folk the improvements and balances make sense especially because of wild world’s issues
city folk is probably one of my favorite games in the entire series, since it was the animal crossing game i remember playing the most as a kid- wild world was my first, but i was really young, so i don't remember it as well. peaches, my favorite ever villager, was one of my first villagers in city folk, and now i have her in new horizons, too
If CF came out on something else other than Wii I would have played it alll the time. My wii broke so all I have is memories and watching other people playing
For the hair controversy, I think it'd be so cool if Animal Crossing just added in all hair types for each style. Like how you can customize the color of hair, you can also customize the texture. Right now, though it's definitely improving, there's still not much versatility.
@Joxar it would be such a small and tiny thing to add, the series has made diversity difficult anyway as it wasn't even until now that you could pick your own skin colour without hacks or grinding for hours standing still to slowly darken it. i do agree the game as it stands lacks content but come on now, this isn't an unreasonable request
ah, star fragment trees. every time theyre mentioned im horribly reminded of when my dumb self thought they were a game feature and tried to plant a star fragment in the ground, only to be very confused when it never turned into a tree. man i love this game
I remember the whole space bun controversy. I wasn’t even in the acnh fandom then and it still got to me. I’m black and I was so confused about what the big deal was. It was soooooo dumb.
@@Chuuckles They did at first, correcting them that the hairstyle was afro puffs and not space buns. (I mean it’s clear by the texture but I guess it could be mistaken)
Telling people they can only use things that exist in their cultural history is mad, what if the afro buns are the only specifically black culture hairstyle in the game, would anyone actually say that's all that black players can use so they're not appropriating other cultures?
Correction regarding Zone's Ankha animation: Zone actually created _two_ animations. The first was a remake of minus8's original and was just as pornographic. It was this one (not minus8's original) that became a meme with the whole cropping thing, and it was after this meme started becoming viral that the Zone made the one where she actually was dancing.
Coming from the New Leaf to New Horizons fandom wise was awful. Idk what happened but it got so much more toxic so fast. I remember witnessing the dream raids live and the poor space buns riot. I interacted with the community as little as I could because of how many eggshells you would have to walk on.
I’d say a lot of it was from AC joining with the wider “Switch fandom.” All consoles have a specific brand of toxicity attached to them and the Switch is no exception.
new horizons was a lot of peoples first animal crossing game, it blew up during quarantine, so people who only played acnh casually started dominating a lot of discussions about the game
I think what mostly happened is that the people who describe themselves as "wholesome and unproblematic" came flooding in Which ultimately just happens to every single fandom at some point :(
This feels like an izzyzz video. It's nice to have more members of the "women with a relaxing voice talks about obscure nerdy stuff for an hour" genere.
4:08 Its important to consider that during this time in history, the most likely reason they changed Gracies gender for localization is very much...NOT "to get rid of harmful LGBTQ+ stereotypes," unfortunately. "Think of the children, don't make them think that its okay for guys to dress up like women and dont get the children gender confused" Similar reason as to why Birdos gender changed.
There's an interview with the localizers where they briefly touch on that, it really could go either way. They make it sound like they changed it not because they wanted to, but because they expected having Gracie characterized that way would upset American audiences, one way or another, in a way it wouldn’t in Japan.
@@kiroswife I mean the original manual for SMB2 kind of treated Birdo that way but in an unfortunate way, it said "he thinks he is a girl", in Japanese she is treated as an _okama_ which is a slang (sometimes derogatory) term for a crossdresser or trans woman. But more recently she has just been treated as a girl, especially internationally. Take a look at the "gender" section on her page at MarioWiki
Y’all really making me want to do deep dives into each character…. I don’t think we have many YT series about character deep dives, other than Nook, Able Sisters, Timmy&Tommy, and maybe Isabelle? Idk I think a 10 min video deep dive into one character at a time, like Birdo, or Jane, would be interesting…. Anyone else?
They seem to have done this a lot in general when Japanese things come over here. There were a couple characters in Sailor Moon that were changed from male to female in the 1990s....off the top of my head (please forgive any misspelling) Zoicite from the first season and Fish Eye from the circus season. Those changes didn't make much of a difference, overall, compared to the biggest and worst change: turning lesbian couple Uranus and Neptune/Haruka and Michiru into cousins. THAT was a horrible change and one that is still mocked by the fandom who witnessed this back in the day. We didn't care that rthey were gay, Haruka could have "turned" most girls and was probably a sexual awakening for some. Though yeah, it was kinda shocking when I first learned Fish Eye (and Gracie) were actually males. I still can't help but see them as female. It's like looking at RuPaul (or any other skilled performer) in drag: you know that's a man, but he certainly makes one gorgeous woman and the pronouns become blurred. Not out of ill-will, but because of how skilled he is at his art. Gracie is basically RuPaul if he was a designer giraffe.
wtf- i didn’t know all this controversy dwells in animal crossing…i’ve been a veteran of it since city folk and new leaf, and i swear i’ve never come across a single toxic AC fan, nor any racism or questionable “kids content”… but the rudeness was really fun though!! the rudeness was what made the game interesting. now it feels like new horizon is extremely baby proof…
i honestly feel like the animal crossing fandom as a whole is amazing and people are usually really kind. before acnh i was only aware of the larger missteps by nintendo, the hacking/glitch issues and the occasional quarrel about dream addresses with new leaf. but after the whole raymond and star fragment tree thing went down, i started looking into it and found the controversy rabbit hole. i feel like the toxic part of the fandom is a small bubble that sometimes spills over to and stirs stuff up in the main community. i feel like the acnh villagers are also super repetitive and limited in their conversations. i think they could have retained more personality and teased the player without getting super mean.
Not only that, the dialogue is weirdly sterile and limited. I’d be fine with less rudeness (though I thought it was funny tbh) if they just had more things to say. Like, if my outfit in the game looks like garbage, the snooty villagers should tell me it looks like garbage 💀
What do you expect from Tumblr and Twitter? I personally went to discords and Aminos, no toxicity there at all. I even had very friendly trades, some artists drew my villager out of the kindness of their little hearts.
I really like Ankha with the whole Egyptian theme. Makes her seem like a mysterious person of royalty. I got her when I first played New Leaf. It got a little weird because the fandom starting posting that cat meme, and the parody made me not look at Ankha the same away again. Now whenever people say Ankha, I just think that's the dancing cat lol.
ankha is super pretty - and you are completely right! her design makes her look like she has a cool backstory or is a mythical creature. i hope that the cute dancing video saves ankha for you (at least a bit). i always hear the song in my head when i see her now 😅 (but i still think she’s a cool cat)
Don't worry, you'll get over it eventually. Per- verts are always gonna ruin things so you'll just have to get used to it. Once you learn how to disassociate the canon from the fanart you'll be fine.
the anti-star trees brigade were truly THE quintessential "no fun allowed" group, fr the animal crossing fandom can just be so intolerable over the tiniest harmless of things that theyll even make up shit abt the things theyre mad about to seem like they have some moral quest to Destroy Malevolent Tree Hackers
Oh my god thank you for bringing up the “love” thing from Animal Crossing! Anicotti fell in love with my character once and it was the weirdest thing ever, but when I tried to describe what happened to family and friends they said I was crazy! I nearly convinced myself I dreamt it until now because I’ve never heard anyone else bring up this feature before! I’m not crazy after all, lol
i thought it was a myth! but when i wrote the script i started digging and i found people talking about it with video evidence. it’s cool that it was a rare easter egg but it made it so much harder to track down
@@plushiepath it’s so rare, I promise! I have been following AC for 18 years and you’re the first person to ever bring it up that I’ve seen. You really do your research, you should be proud! @@plushiepath in wild world two of my villagers had crushes on eachother, I have never heard anyone else discuss this before though? If anyone knows anything about this I'd love to hear it.
Wow, man it feels so great when somebody else also talks about something seemingly only you know. I thought I was crazy when I was seemingly the only one remembering TH-cam's chatrooms, until later hearing people talk about those YT chatrooms too xD
@@ahuman5868 In my acnh island two of my villagers don't have a crush on each other but they are really close, talking all the time, seen in the same place together, talking about each other, etc.
Tom nook isn’t a greedy trash panda. His loans are interest free (a personal policy of his) and he should be respected for that. You also only need to earn enough nook miles to pay off your moving fees, which can be done quite quickly. He may influence you to get a house, but you don’t need it.
I’m glad I live in Japan and didn’t have to deal with the New Horizons Amiibo card fiasco. Here in Japan, I easily got the Sanrio cards except that they didn’t sell complete sets like in the US, you got 2 random Sanrio cards in each pack. It was frustrating, but there were plenty of used games stores that already sold singles on the day of its release. And at reasonable prices (like $3.00 a card)
As someone who owned almost every animal crossing game growing up, I am super horrified by the lows that some groups in the fandom would sink to, in order to torture others and make a RL profit.
My favorite controversy was the argument around bullying villagers. One of the fb groups I was in had this chick claiming to be a psychologist that said bullying game characters is a sign of sociopathy 😂 It was already funny enough that people acted like it meant they were IRL bullies but that’s some next level bull. And the people upset about it were harassing real people over it 🤣 Wait until they find out how many games allow more violnce than hitting animals with nets lol
i dislike how people bullied others over playing a game or diagnose them. personally i am too empathetic to be mean to villagers now, but as a kid… i did it too haha
Idk about the psychology thing, but I know a lot of long-time AC players generally don't like being mean to the villagers. Except *that* one! "Which one?" The answer varies, but most of us have had at least one we don't like. Currently, mine is Sprocket after restarting my island. For at least 3 days in a row he kept telling me about his abs and all their names. So I wrote him a letter telling him to stfu about his abs and that nobody cares about them but him. He wrote back going on about all the words. Clearly he's so focused on naming his abs that he's forgetting to exercise his brain....
I absolutely loved this! As someone that's been playing since gamecube but hadn't been active in the Fandom till New Horizons, it's crazy to see the past and how it led up to this. It's such a weird thing when a game franchise becomes so popular. I remember only a couple of years ago, when I told people animal crossing was my favorite game and tried to explain it, they looked at me like I was crazy. Now, they all know and/or have played it!
thank you so much! it’s such a crazy ride! despite the negativity, i am super happy that animal crossing has grown so much. the game really deserves the recognition! also, i am glad it’s more mainstream so people aren’t judging animal crossing fans as much anymore.
My first AC game was Wild World, I was 8 years old, just had been gifted a light pink DS lite, all my friends played it, life was good! I remember taking the "rude" things my villagers said very personally and I would write love letters to other villagers. I really do miss their personalities while playing ACNH
I have a huge soft spot for most of the “ugly” villagers (especially the gorillas.) They’re not my favourites but imo they give towns more flavour. I really enjoyed this video!!
As someone who was an amiibo collector for other franchises (Super Smash bros, Pokémon, Fire Emblem, Splatoon) I can say the Animal Crossing Amiibo card packs were medium to high rarity depending on where you lived. With their release I met quite a few new people at 6am lines outside of Targets who became regulars in the release-day hunts. We were all miserable together. Edit: as to my theory on why ACNH stopped getting updates. Its because of how many of the devs overlap with Splatoon. Splatoon2 stopped getting big updates (aside from bug fixes and patches to stop bots) about a year before New Horizons released. That lines up with ACNH stopping getting updates about one year before Splatoon3's release. I really hope its not the case, but I would not be surprised if a lack of knowledgeable devs overall is the cause of this across both games.
oh wow that’s interesting! meeting people when amiibo hunting sounds cool (but yeah 6am is rough!) i really hope they get more devs to work on splatoon and animal crossing separately or at least hire more to work on both. i like that Nintendo doesn’t seem to force people into crunch times as much as other companies, but i’d imagine that expanding the dev teams would take some pressure off the devs.
ohhh i missed that! but it makes sense because it’s really different. i really hope that the main series dev team takes some inspiration from pocket camp and either add more paid dlcs to new horizons or the next game. (i would hate to see microtransactions in the main series, but i honestly think that animal crossing deserves more paid dlc content if that would help them hire more skilled devs.)
i live in israel, and amiibos simply DON'T EXIST here, i somehow managed to get my hands on the sanrio pack, and as of now, i don't know anyone who has ANY amiibos, let alone the sanrio pack
Honestly it would make sense considering Hisashi Nogami worked on all three Splatoon games as a producer but also as a producer on Happy Home Designer, New Leaf and New Horizon.
"content for children" such an American point of view 😅 nudity in art isn't obscene, it's ART Nudity and sex are two different things .. and children's should be exposed to art as often as they should be exposed to science and other things. WHITH EXPLANATIONS of course. Its part of humanity and our history. It should be exposed to our child. Well maybe it's just my European point of view. Americans are so much more evolved lol. Sorry for the aggressive tone, it's just offsetting for me. Such things like people debating on if they should put underwear to statues 🤦🤦🤦 Unless this, courage ! You'll go far ! :D
thank you so much 😊 and yeah i agree - nudity itself isn’t dangerous and i really dislike how often games/movies get age restricted because of it. i get it when people don’t want kids to see super graphic depictions, but you can see the original art in museums and it’s not showing something wild. personally, i think it’s funny that nintendo is usually uptight about everything but decided to put the original art in. i also thought it was interesting that it caused some uproar, and i liked how people memed on it.
I remember someone sending me a death threat over discord because I didn't want to give them Raymond (I had sent a screenshot of my island and he just happened to be in the background). Odd times honestly.
To this day, I still find it funny that New Horizons was my first AC game, and Raymond showed up as my very first campsite visitor, so he ended up as a resident. I had no idea how much of a big deal that was until later when I saw all the online discussions of him. Great video by the way!
I love that there were people fighting the black market with free villagers! I actually tried this for a little with some of the 2.0 villagers on nookazon, worth it.
Also I personally hate the whole "out with uggo villager" crud. I LOVE Rodney and Moose was my first villager and... well I never hated him. I actually thought he was like a "big bro" icon.
“ugly” villagers deserve love! i think a lot of them are charming and look interesting. and yesss the free villagers campaign was amazing. i am so glad someone stepped up.
The funny thing about the sanrio cards is that a month ago I went to a game story and they literally had the box almost full. Also that they costed me 6 bucks which is probably cheaper than what some people asked for the content inside
I feel like star fragment trees should've been a real thing, like if you bury a constellation star fragment in the glowing money spot and the tree that grows hast star fragments on it but one time and after you shake it it'd go back to a normal tree
Tom literally gives you a house when you just showed up out of nowhere, your loan has no interest and you can pay it whenever without fear of eviction. he's amazing, anyone who's mad that they have to pay for their house is just ridiculous (he also gives you a job to help you get started)
34:13 I wish I could deep dive into the mind of a person who puts a trigger warning for Animal Death on a post where THEY are the ones advocating for an animal's death
This randomly popped up in my recommended, and I'm glad it did! Lots of interesting tidbits, decent editing, and you're a fun host. Subscribed and looking forward to what you do next :)
As someone who’s played since Gamecube I was really disappointed with NH. Little content at launch, slowly rolling out small updates with features from previous games, and crafting……… I feel like the community got so much worse and toxic with NH being so popular and the rise of Twitter. I remember the space bun controversy and they Raymond black market and just thinking what happened to this community. Obviously being so widespread is good for the series since it almost guarantees a new game, but being so widespread led to just so much more stupidity lmao. So funny to see people get outraged at things that have been in the game for years like the statue genitals.
NOOOO NOT YOU TOO! Mitzi did that to me too after giving me her picture in Wild World and it devastated me ; .; She's still my favorite villager but oof remembering that happened always gets me in my feels.
not really a controversy or scandal, but i remember someone made a creepypasta for population growing about a purple bulldog who would destroy your game if you didn’t play for a long time. some people decided to tell others it was a real thing and started fearmongering that a hacked animal crossing character could enter your game and ruin it.
Brutus was his name I think. What freaked me out was hearing he only spoke in binary. I’d turn my game off scared even as adult if that happened today!
This is so interesting! as someone who has only started playing in 2021, i think all the hacking and all the problems around animal crossing is the reason we dont get more updates!
Mild correction: The Ankha Zone video most people know about was created by Zone. It was just inspired by a different video by Minus8, the dancing video was made by Zone in response to the "is the cat dancing?" Meme
One sad thing about New Leaf is during the game's run the Post Office had the ability to give you items via Wi-Fi which eventually shut down. There are some items that can never be re-obtained/re-purchased which means if you had to get a new copy or wanted to give your town an overhaul and have a completely new layout you couldn't re-purchase some furniture from your catalogue. The following are items that cannot be re-purchased or obtained legally without trading with someone who has multiple copies of them are: Pumpkin Pie, Afternoon Tea Set, Fedora Chair, Red Ogre Mask (Normally only obtainable in Japanese copies of New Leaf during the Bean Throwing Festival), Blue ogre mask (Normally only obtainable in Japanese copies of New Leaf during the Bean Throwing Festival), Newsprint Helmet (Normally only available in Japanese copies of New Leaf during Boy's Day), Cucumber Horse, Eggplant Cow, Dango, Shaved Ice Lamp, Hagoita and White Festive Tree. Each of the items had a specified amount of days, usually being half of the month with some bleeding into other months. Some items are only available in Japan such as the infamous 7-Eleven set which had and ABD/ABM machine included with the set which would function just like the ABD in the Post Office. The only way to obtain these items now is through either hacking or trading as the Spotpass services have been defunct for a long time now and the time these items were distributed for have long since passed.
@@plushiepath That's not all that's inaccessible for new players. During the latter half of 2013 special houses belonging to those who worked on New Leaf and those who worked at Nintendo would show up in the Happy Home Showcase. The first one was Reggie Fils-Aimé himself who had two chances of appearing. The first chance was in June 24 and the last chance was December 30 just one day before the new year. The others were Rich (July 1), Kiys (July 8) DY (July 15) Lindsey (July 22), Kate (July 29) Cory (August 5), Steph (August 12), Bill (August 19), Reiko (August 26), Ray (September 2), Chiko (September 9), Nate (September 16), Snay (September 23), Covel (October 7), Dano (October 21), César (November 4), Annimal (November 4), Kébec (December 2) and Aminka (December 16). In total, 20 employees from either Nintendo or New Leaf's staff team could show up in your Happy Home Showcase and you'd only be able to save 16 of them with the remaining four eventually vanishing if you exceeded the limit. Like I said earlier, it only lasted through the rest of 2013. Nookipedia does list each of the special house owners and what village/town they're from so maybe some of them made Dream Worlds we can explore, the houses have probably changed quite a bit since they were first seen but at least we can still explore them albeit without the ability to purchase any furniture we like.
I actually had no idea Sasha was a boy, or that Saharah and Gracie were boys. My mind is blown rn! Also the ugly villagers are my favorite lol. They're actually pretty nice. Moose is my favorite!
I only knew he was from a massive influx of gay furry artists drawing him after his gender was revealed. Needless to say, that decision made him significantly more popular. Lmao
It's funny, because AC is such a cute game and its fandom is hellspawn, but I'm into stuff like, for example, OMORI, which is tragic and horrifying, and its fandom is adorable and goofy and welcoming
omori is amazing! and yeah i feel like every game has a “bad” part of its fandom but with ac that part is very noticeable and people are quick to get agressive about things, while games that touch sad or controversial topics have more empathy in their fandom
During the pandemic I took several days to teach Etsy amiibo card/coin sellers how to make their amiibo cards to support themselves, and many of them went on to keep making cards when Sanrio and Series 5 released. (Before the pandemic it was pretty obscure information outside of my tutorials) It's nice to see that I helped people get the villagers they wanted.
such a good video! I always knew gracie was originally male and I always assumed/thought they was changed to be a woman in the west because of western attitudes towards femminine men, I had never heard before that the way gracie was presented in japan was offensive because of the details about the voice/name etc so that was completely new to me! its interesting to hear extra details like that its completely changed my perception of some of the localization changes
yes! i originally thought they changed it to make puns work in different languages. but after researching for the video i was glad they changed it 😅 it’s still weird to me that they switched blanca’s gender too because there really wasn’t anything bad going on.
@@plushiepath There's an interview where they said the reason they weren't sure of Saharah's gender was because unlike the villagers, who have blue and pink text boxes, the special NPCs have green ones. So with the long eyelashes (which is just a trait of camels) and the Japanese name ローラン, which they interpreted as Lauren, they thought the character was female. Same probably goes for Blanca, they just didn’t know.
I wish we still had the love mechanic... maybe not between players and villagers, but among the villagers themselves. Awesome video btw!!! I absolutely adore your Isabelle clips!
Most disturbing thing I remember out of the fandom was someone having their house covered in patterns based on Marshal’s face. They were scarily obsessed with him that every single wall, floor, furniture had the squirrel on it. I get the appeal of having favorites or dreamies but that was taking it too far in a mental way.
i don't know about the 'nudity'. all the nudity ive seen is just the art statues. like the statue of David, is beautiful. i can get how it can be an issue for some people though.
the statue is really pretty! i like that the used the original art in the game (though i think it’s funny that nintendo did that because they usually try to avoid things like that). but as you said, i can also see why some people might feel different about it.
Fun fact: the guy who was mass reporting trees was also a huge figurehead in the pokemon community and no one liked him bc he called literally everyone and anyone hackers
As an American growing up with the American copy of the gamecube game, I remember meeting Leigh and Quetzal. Leigh especially, since for some reason my brother and I could never get into her house. Either she’d be standing right in front of the door, or she’d be too far away to let us in! We kinda hated her for that reason lol. Jane was one of my favorites growing up, and ngl it was weird seeing her original design for the first time.
I freaking hate the whole thing with amiibo cards! Nintendo knows they’re in high demand and still doesn’t make enough even though they have the ability to. They’re slow with restocking and it just creates aggressive fans who can’t get ahold of them because of scalpers.
12:30 Considering how Nintendo's music are constantly pirated due to the severe lack of / limited Japan-only releases, this statement has a lot of irony into it. Also, great video! Very informative, I loved it
Animal Crossing is one of those rare games where when I first heard how much people love to bully certain villagers solely due to the fact they're not virtually appealing, I took that as a sign to never be a part of the fandom. I'm glad I made the right choice. There definitely seems to be a theme of the more wholesome the game is, the more toxic the fandom is.
NH did that. People appreciated villigers more universally when you weren't able to choose which knew you got. The second their was an effective trafficking market, you villligers had an assigned value. It's the exact opposite message the older games promoted.
I stumbled on your video, and found it super interesting. I started playing when the game first came out but wasn't aware of all the drama that happened! Looking forward to more uploads! :)
i never understood how raymond was a rare villager. i got him in one of my first days of playing the game and using nook miles/checking who's visiting camp that day. i didnt have to go to some sort of villager black market to get him. its kinda funny seeing everyone trying to get him in such extensive measures. at the same time, it was quite terrifying.
i watched a video that basically said that the game rolls 2 times for nook mile island villagers, one for the species and one for the villager from that species and since cats have the most villagers it was harder to hunt for them. i think that + him not having an amiibo card at release was what made him so rare
That happened a couple times with me. I had a Marshal amiibo from NL, so I decided to use it again in NH. I had a feeling he’d be a fan favorite again, but I did NOT expect there to be utter chaos surrounding him, people fighting over him and spending millions of bells just to *look* at him. It happened again when I got Audie on my first NMT, and saw the ruckus over her, which was slightly less, but still bad.
I felt this way about Audi because she was one of my three starting characters on my island. Had no idea she had such an in-depth backstory before others commented on it.
When I first got the game, I was island hopping for any random villager I liked to fill up the slots. I stumbled across Raymond really quickly, and decided to get him for the meme 😂
for only having 2 videos the quality is incredible, also this popped into my recommendations right as I was thinking about opening up my island for the first time in around a year so great timing
Oh god I remember how pissed people used to get about time travelling in animal crossing, last year I missed Easter in the game because of my granddad's funeral and when I mentioned in a discord that I'd turned it back one day to get the event and somebody told me to kms 😭😭
That's terrible. I am so sorry :( I feel like everyone should be able to play the game however they want. If Nintendo wouldn't like time travel, they could have patched it out.
I listened to you talked while I'm at work. You made a very concise Animal Crossing History and I'm glad to know some of its random drama! 😅 I hope you get more subscribers, you definitely know how to talk to your audience! Good luck! 🥰
No wonder prices inflated when people would sell villagers in boxes back in the day. Before NMT in new leaf I remember a strategy we’d use to cycle through villagers. on the day of which you would be having a new villlager moving in you would create a new character, place their tent and go check the name on the moving in plot to see if it was who you were after, if you didn’t like them you would reset and begin again until you found a villager you liked and then you would play with your new character until there was a point at which you could save (and later delete) to secure the villager. it seems like so much hassle but at the same time I think finding these loop holes was really fun
tiny correction! the adult dancing cat animation was a collab between zone and minus 8, after the meme started gaining traction zone made the safe dancing cat version
You really deserve more views than you’ve got rn. Not a lot of people can keep someone actively listening to a 40+ minute long video. You’ve got a nice voice and really good writing skills. I hope you get bigger soon cause seriously, you’re way too good.
aww thank you! it sadly took me a bit longer than expected to finish the video 😅 and yeah the raymond and sanrio villagers black market definitely is something :D
If your game got bricked/seeded on DS you could purchase Action Replay and fix it, actually. But given that the fan base was mostly children and young teenagers at the time, many were unaware of that. That, and Action Replay was kinda hard to navigate though if you had no idea what you were doing. My game got bricked but I was 17 at the time so I was able to figure out how to fix it with AR. I feel bad for all the kids who couldn’t fix theirs, though.
I genuinely don't understand the Star Tree discourse. They were a harmless, cute decoration, hacked or not, and Verlisify is KNOWN to be toxic and petty. I guarantee that his "crusade" wasn't spurred by a desire to "keep the game honest." These trees were not hurting anyone, but the harassment that dude encouraged sure did. I never had Star trees, but I wasn't bothered by other people having them and seeing some of the islands people made with them was really cool. Now we'll likely never see them anywhere again.
When Animal Crossing came to the West, Resetti's reception was quite different than it was in his debut in Japan. Rather than finding him scary or creepy, most Western fans found him irritating. I recall, growing up in the 2000s with early TH-cam, there was a good amount of individuals who made countdown videos, often putting Resetti and characters like him on their frequent Top 15 Most Hated Video Game Characters lists.
when you mentioned being rude to "ugly" villagers, I thought of my other animal crossing island named Ganymede and I had a villager moved in, his name was Vic, he was one of those villagers that had the deep tone, but I didn't hate on him because he was ugly, I actually didn't hate him at all, he was actually one of my favorite animal crossing villagers in the game
People overestimate the effort it takes to make your own Amiibo cards, it's literally so easy idk how there can even be a sliver of a black market for villagers.
Hey! I'd just like to say there was a fix for being virtually held hostage. Nintendo added a feature that allowed you to force leave if anything goes wrong, no matter what anyone else is doing. :)
I hate that people don't like the so called "Ugly" villagers, to me, all villagers are cute, even if some are not as cute, they are none the less still adorable to me, I feel bad for those villagers, and those people should just calm down, its just a game, I like to give the villagers I don't want gifts so they will leave sooner, also one of my most fav villagers is Barold, I used to hate him until I actually just read his text and began to enjoy his company, I also love tom nook, I don't know why people think he's "Evil" he legit gives you a HOUSE for FREE mind you, and you don't have to pay him anything, unless you want a bigger house, loved your video btw, its hard to think a game cute as animal crossing could have such a bad history and community.
the idea of parents getting mad over tortimer being an online predator and nintendo having to publicly explain NPCs is killing me 💀💀💀
yeah haha one of the worst part is that weird news segment where they show tortimer and allege that he is a guy from california who talks to kids. it should be on youtube
Parents be ignoring actual internet issues and complaining about NPCs setting surprises for their kids birthday 💀💀💀
@@plushiepath I just found it as a video from over a decade ago. i’m so at a loss for words LMAO thank you for introducing this hell content to me. journalism lives on
i'm sorry but that one made me laugh
I remember that. It's hilarious how difficult it is to explain video game concepts to older people.
I remember when I was little, my older sister just to bully me would delete my save game files. I complained to my Dad that my sister deleted "my games," and he flipped out at her, mistakenly thinking she was sonehow deleting the actual entire $50 games. She had a difficult time trying to explain to him what "save progress files" were, and that she wasn't destroying the expensive games.
Needless to say, at least she stopped doing that afterwards.
I wish they made the Star fragment trees a feature instead of removing them can you imagine how awesome some of the already amazing islands would look
YES! i agree so much. they should have patched them in. even if they were super hard to get, i’d rather grind for them than not have them. they looked so pretty
Agree
It could've been like Bell Trees, the day after a meteor shower perhaps the glowing spot the next day would instead include a star fragment that you could grow into a star fragment tree there, but they only produce once then just act like regular trees.
I think they should have been included as a purely decorative item, like you can shake them but the stars won't fall. That would stop farming but still be pretty!
I think they should've been a Kapp'n island exclusive, and that if the players tried to get one they would just get a regular tree instead
The PETA thing kills me. No one is eating the fish or the bugs. Blathers just wants to conserve these animals for education
I mean, we are now cooking the fish and bugs in the update haha.
@@teas3998 i bet peta had a field day over that. (sarcasm)
@@teas3998 knowing that Nintendo has historically taken some really great potshots at peta/animal rights activists, this may be in purpose.

I really saw the worst and best of the fandom on that day, though this experience has lead me to not really post or interract in Animal Crossing fandom spaces anymore.
i am so sorry that happend. i am glad someone offered to help and i hope you’ll have more positive experiences. it sucks when a few people spoil the fun for everyone
u should start interacting again if u want to! the ppl who took the game that seriously aren't playing anymore so it's way safer and more fun now

It was only then that I thought “dang, I never could make my villager really look like me…”
No shade, I do not think she forgot.
don’t worry, she mentioned it just not in detail. i could’ve missed it too.
That's not a controversy.
@@HeruruMeruru disagree.
Exactly, maybe Nintendo forced the company to be kid friendly at all costs but it's not fun to just have a villager move in and say "oh hello best friend, I just met you and I love you.

I find the Nooks cute and silly. Tom is probably my fave npc.
i agree that nook comes off better the more you understand about the world, but forcing you to get upgrades and keeping you trapped in a constant cycle of debt is a litttttle predatory (i'm kind of sad that apsect got phased out, i love scummy nook.)
i miss when i could imagine tom nook with an intense new york accent, smoking a cigar and talking aggressively at you about your rent.
@@NanoCharat look up the concept of indentured servitude. Nook is absolutely morally evil.
a whole hacker group forming to give out Raymonds will forever be the funniest thing ever... u just had to be there 💀💀
I just found out why only “one island per console”… the original game (which had the same 1 town per console feature) was the creators way of sharing a gaming experience with his family, despite him working late hours… he wanted a game his whole family could all interact with… he’d get home from work late at night and see what his kids built in the game, and vice versa when the kids came home from school, they’d see what progress their dad had made even tho he wasn’t there at that exact moment…
It’s actually an incredible sweet gesture and makes me okay with the “one island per console” thing BECAUSE it was a pure family driven choice from the moment of the games inception.
that’s actually really sweet. i like the idea of playing at different times but still being present in the game a lot.
thank you for sharing that!
I agree! Shame I don’t have much of a family anymore though…
Well, when you’re on the dev team you can pitch it for next game 😘
My issue is that with the DS, my sisters and I shared a DS but we had 3 copies of AC so we had individual islands and then when I was ready to buy an extra digital copy of ACNH I was disappointed
For being a cutesy wutesey game, the Animal Crossing community is genuinely vile and cruel. Speaks volumes of certain fandoms.

There are some features in wild world that aren't in city folk, so I wouldn't really agree though
city folk is probably one of my favorite games in the entire series, since it was the animal crossing game i remember playing the most as a kid- wild world was my first, but i was really young, so i don't remember it as well.
peaches, my favorite ever villager, was one of my first villagers in city folk, and now i have her in new horizons, too
If CF came out on something else other than Wii I would have played it alll the time. My wii broke so all I have is memories and watching other people playing
It was my first game in the series (although my Aussie ass knows it as Let’s Go to the City) so it is pretty nostalgic for me
For the hair controversy, I think it'd be so cool if Animal Crossing just added in all hair types for each style. Like how you can customize the color of hair, you can also customize the texture. Right now, though it's definitely improving, there's still not much versatility.
that's actually an amazing idea
YES 🙌 that sounds amazing
@Joxar it would be such a small and tiny thing to add, the series has made diversity difficult anyway as it wasn't even until now that you could pick your own skin colour without hacks or grinding for hours standing still to slowly darken it. i do agree the game as it stands lacks content but come on now, this isn't an unreasonable request
ah, star fragment trees. every time theyre mentioned im horribly reminded of when my dumb self thought they were a game feature and tried to plant a star fragment in the ground, only to be very confused when it never turned into a tree. man i love this game

Surprised you didn't mention anything from Amiibo Festival, it's reveal alone was messy as hell in the community
Coming from the New Leaf to New Horizons fandom wise was awful. Idk what happened but it got so much more toxic so fast. I remember witnessing the dream raids live and the poor space buns riot. I interacted with the community as little as I could because of how many eggshells you would have to walk on.
As a fanbase gets larger, the probability that more crazies join gets higher as well
I’d say a lot of it was from AC joining with the wider “Switch fandom.” All consoles have a specific brand of toxicity attached to them and the Switch is no exception.
new horizons was a lot of peoples first animal crossing game, it blew up during quarantine, so people who only played acnh casually started dominating a lot of discussions about the game

Its important to consider that during this time in history, the most likely reason they changed Gracies gender for localization is very much...NOT "to get rid of harmful LGBTQ+ stereotypes," unfortunately.
"Think of the children, don't make them think that its okay for guys to dress up like women and dont get the children gender confused"
Similar reason as to why Birdos gender changed.
There's an interview with the localizers where they briefly touch on that, it really could go either way. They make it sound like they changed it not because they wanted to, but because they expected having Gracie characterized that way would upset American audiences, one way or another, in a way it wouldn’t in Japan.
I thought Birdo was a trans woman :(
@@kiroswife I mean the original manual for SMB2 kind of treated Birdo that way but in an unfortunate way, it said "he thinks he is a girl", in Japanese she is treated as an _okama_ which is a slang (sometimes derogatory) term for a crossdresser or trans woman. But more recently she has just been treated as a girl, especially internationally. Take a look at the "gender" section on her page at MarioWiki

Gracie is basically RuPaul if he was a designer giraffe.
wtf- i didn’t know all this controversy dwells in animal crossing…i’ve been a veteran of it since city folk and new leaf, and i swear i’ve never come across a single toxic AC fan, nor any racism or questionable “kids content”…
but the rudeness was really fun though!! the rudeness was what made the game interesting. now it feels like new horizon is extremely baby proof…
i honestly feel like the animal crossing fandom as a whole is amazing and people are usually really kind. before acnh i was only aware of the larger missteps by nintendo, the hacking/glitch issues and the occasional quarrel about dream addresses with new leaf. but after the whole raymond and star fragment tree thing went down, i started looking into it and found the controversy rabbit hole. i feel like the toxic part of the fandom is a small bubble that sometimes spills over to and stirs stuff up in the main community.
i feel like the acnh villagers are also super repetitive and limited in their conversations. i think they could have retained more personality and teased the player without getting super mean.
The blandness of the ACNH villagers is one of the reasons I stopped playing ;_;
Not only that, the dialogue is weirdly sterile and limited. I’d be fine with less rudeness (though I thought it was funny tbh) if they just had more things to say.
Like, if my outfit in the game looks like garbage, the snooty villagers should tell me it looks like garbage 💀
same, I’ve played since wild world and heard of almost none of this stuff lol
Ankha is one of my favourite villagers because I'm egyptian as well lol ;D
same! i had her on my island but i just can’t look at her the same again lol
Don't worry, you'll get over it eventually. Per- verts are always gonna ruin things so you'll just have to get used to it. Once you learn how to disassociate the canon from the fanart you'll be fine.
@Dark Choco I think that's also partly the Smash fandom's fault, since over 50% of her pictures involve Doomguy in some way.
the anti-star trees brigade were truly THE quintessential "no fun allowed" group, fr the animal crossing fandom can just be so intolerable over the tiniest harmless of things that theyll even make up shit abt the things theyre mad about to seem like they have some moral quest to Destroy Malevolent Tree Hackers
Anicotti fell in love with my character 14+ years ago because I played so often, but your the first person I’ve seen explain it! Such a weird game mechanic.
If you want to progress the -game- tutorial, you need a house.
Also 90% of his income goes to an orphanage.
Lol NO.

I physically cannot rationalize villager bullying... like... little friend? New little friend?? For me??? I love them.
And the people upset about it were harassing real people over it 🤣
Wait until they find out how many games allow more violnce than hitting animals with nets lol
i dislike how people bullied others over playing a game or diagnose them. personally i am too empathetic to be mean to villagers now, but as a kid… i did it too haha
I wonder what that psychologists view is on games like GTA
Now, they all know and/or have played it!
thank you so much!
it’s such a crazy ride! despite the negativity, i am super happy that animal crossing has grown so much. the game really deserves the recognition!
also, i am glad it’s more mainstream so people aren’t judging animal crossing fans as much anymore.
the amount of times people would assume "animal crossing" is some sort of furry sex thing drove me crazy
My first AC game was Wild World, I was 8 years old, just had been gifted a light pink DS lite, all my friends played it, life was good! I remember taking the "rude" things my villagers said very personally and I would write love letters to other villagers. I really do miss their personalities while playing ACNH
i wish they could have kept the personalities without insults.
and yess! i completely get the letter thing.
And because i forgot to put it in my edit and can't edit my post again: Pocket Camp is handled by a different dev team.
oh wow that’s interesting! meeting people when amiibo hunting sounds cool (but yeah 6am is rough!)
i really hope they get more devs to work on splatoon and animal crossing separately or at least hire more to work on both. i like that Nintendo doesn’t seem to force people into crunch times as much as other companies, but i’d imagine that expanding the dev teams would take some pressure off the devs.
ohhh i missed that! but it makes sense because it’s really different. i really hope that the main series dev team takes some inspiration from pocket camp and either add more paid dlcs to new horizons or the next game.
I remember getting raymond on my island, taking a picture, then moving him out a week later cause i didn’t want the ellen cat
I love him lol but I see why you didn’t want him
"content for children" such an American point of view 😅 nudity in art isn't obscene, it's ART
Nudity and sex are two different things .. and children's should be exposed to art as often as they should be exposed to science and other things. WHITH EXPLANATIONS of course.
Its part of humanity and our history. It should be exposed to our child.
Well maybe it's just my European point of view. Americans are so much more evolved lol.
Sorry for the aggressive tone, it's just offsetting for me. Such things like people debating on if they should put underwear to statues 🤦🤦🤦
Unless this, courage ! You'll go far ! :D
I'm really sorry for this comment a bit toxic, I see it afterwards 😅😅😅
You remembered me my old games in wild world ^^ thx ! :3
thank you so much 😊 and yeah i agree - nudity itself isn’t dangerous and i really dislike how often games/movies get age restricted because of it. i get it when people don’t want kids to see super graphic depictions, but you can see the original art in museums and it’s not showing something wild.
personally, i think it’s funny that nintendo is usually uptight about everything but decided to put the original art in. i also thought it was interesting that it caused some uproar, and i liked how people memed on it.
Dude I was literally fuckin traumatized by it which led to my UNQUENCHABLE DESIRE FOR GUNS.
yea I can respect the animal crossing creators for including the original art without censoring anything. That's actually pretty mature
@@iamrococoo I agree. I was just super surprised because that part of anatomy doesn’t usually show up in E and maybe T rated games-
I remember someone sending me a death threat over discord because I didn't want to give them Raymond (I had sent a screenshot of my island and he just happened to be in the background). Odd times honestly.
I think it’s crazy how Raymond was such a big deal and had so much controversy…meanwhile he was my first villager in my campsite lol.
I have such a big soft spot for the gorilla villagers (most ugly ones really but especially them) so I’m glad that other people appreciate them 💀
I am dying laughing at that screenshot of NMT prices for Raymond... 5 tickets to look at his house?? 😂😂 who are these people??
"30 min to do whatever you want with him" Sounds like a pimping business

Same. I find new leaf super in comparison but nh had potential
NOOOO NOT YOU TOO! Mitzi did that to me too after giving me her picture in Wild World and it devastated me ; .; She's still my favorite villager but oof remembering that happened always gets me in my feels.
she’s a heartbreaker! and yeah i still love her so much but i am still sad about her leaving. i am so sorry you had to go through that.
not really a controversy or scandal, but i remember someone made a creepypasta for population growing about a purple bulldog who would destroy your game if you didn’t play for a long time. some people decided to tell others it was a real thing and started fearmongering that a hacked animal crossing character could enter your game and ruin it.
that’s interesting and sounds super creepy! thanks for sharing!
Brutus was his name I think. What freaked me out was hearing he only spoke in binary. I’d turn my game off scared even as adult if that happened today!
Brutus! More of an interesting urban legend than a controversy, though.
This is so interesting! as someone who has only started playing in 2021, i think all the hacking and all the problems around animal crossing is the reason we dont get more updates!
they are definitely more careful! and yeah they probably test things more now!
The following are items that cannot be re-purchased or obtained legally without trading with someone who has multiple copies of them are:
Pumpkin Pie, Afternoon Tea Set, Fedora Chair, Red Ogre Mask (Normally only obtainable in Japanese copies of New Leaf during the Bean Throwing Festival), Blue ogre mask (Normally only obtainable in Japanese copies of New Leaf during the Bean Throwing Festival), Newsprint Helmet (Normally only available in Japanese copies of New Leaf during Boy's Day), Cucumber Horse, Eggplant Cow, Dango, Shaved Ice Lamp, Hagoita and White Festive Tree.
Each of the items had a specified amount of days, usually being half of the month with some bleeding into other months. Some items are only available in Japan such as the infamous 7-Eleven set which had and ABD/ABM machine included with the set which would function just like the ABD in the Post Office.
The only way to obtain these items now is through either hacking or trading as the Spotpass services have been defunct for a long time now and the time these items were distributed for have long since passed.
that’s so interesting! it’s sad that those items aren’t easily accessible 😭
“ugly” villagers have so much charm!
How could you not know Sasha was a boy? He has he/him/guy pronouns and is a lazy personality
@@TraceguyRune I never had Sasha, just heard of him
I only knew he was from a massive influx of gay furry artists drawing him after his gender was revealed.
(Before the pandemic it was pretty obscure information outside of my tutorials)
It's nice to see that I helped people get the villagers they wanted.
such a good video!
Same!
i like to think that gracie is genderfluid and Saharah is non-binary! i think those labels fit with their characters
In summary; Animal Crossing players can be very entitled brats.

@@plushiepath Definitely! I think it would be a lot of fun and it would keep the fan base interested for way longer
I know this might sound out of topic but your Baarbara voice is so cute and almost official sounding!
i don't know about the 'nudity'. all the nudity ive seen is just the art statues. like the statue of David, is beautiful. i can get how it can be an issue for some people though.
the statue is really pretty! i like that the used the original art in the game (though i think it’s funny that nintendo did that because they usually try to avoid things like that). but as you said, i can also see why some people might feel different about it.
I didn't realise that people didn't enjoy City Folk. I loved that one.
The dark side of humanity has found its way into the animal crossing community it seems.
Safety is a myth.
Very informative, I loved it
Trueeee
i think you’ve hit something with this video format, 2 videos and youre already just about at 100 subs! Cant wait to see more!
aww thank you so much!
Ozzie is one of my favorite villagers I never understood why people hate him so much

I stumbled on your video, and found it super interesting. I started playing when the game first came out but wasn't aware of all the drama that happened! Looking forward to more uploads! :)
thank you 😊 and yeah it’s such a good game and i feel so nostalgic about every entry!
i never understood how raymond was a rare villager. i got him in one of my first days of playing the game and using nook miles/checking who's visiting camp that day. i didnt have to go to some sort of villager black market to get him. its kinda funny seeing everyone trying to get him in such extensive measures. at the same time, it was quite terrifying.
i watched a video that basically said that the game rolls 2 times for nook mile island villagers, one for the species and one for the villager from that species and since cats have the most villagers it was harder to hunt for them. i think that + him not having an amiibo card at release was what made him so rare
@@ian-tw5jb interesting! that explains a lot honestly. still kinda crazy that i got lucky in the end ^^;

Quetzal was actually in the us version of animal crossing game cube. He was one of my villagers when I was a kid
When you mentioned Ankha Zone I had war flashbacks because I haven't recovered from that shit yet
It has given me unironic PTSD. A shame too, because the animation itself is really high quality.
Wait this isn’t Izzyzzz
Edit: no issue about it, and was in fact pleasantly surprised
That's what I thought.
for only having 2 videos the quality is incredible, also this popped into my recommendations right as I was thinking about opening up my island for the first time in around a year so great timing
Good luck! 🥰
aww thank you so much! ❤️I tried to include more obscure random things that were super wild to me but also the juicy acnh drama
No wonder prices inflated when people would sell villagers in boxes back in the day. Before NMT in new leaf I remember a strategy we’d use to cycle through villagers. on the day of which you would be having a new villlager moving in you would create a new character, place their tent and go check the name on the moving in plot to see if it was who you were after, if you didn’t like them you would reset and begin again until you found a villager you liked and then you would play with your new character until there was a point at which you could save (and later delete) to secure the villager. it seems like so much hassle but at the same time I think finding these loop holes was really fun
the star fragment one was funny because people felt scammed when they got patched out and these people paid REAL MONEY for them
tiny correction! the adult dancing cat animation was a collab between zone and minus 8, after the meme started gaining traction zone made the safe dancing cat version
ohh thank you! i am sorry for missing that!
@@plushiepath don't worry about! I loved the video keep up the great work!

Time to learn about the animal crossing black market!
aww thank you! it sadly took me a bit longer than expected to finish the video 😅
and yeah the raymond and sanrio villagers black market definitely is something :D
Okay, Nintendo can make it a feature that is only available for older players...because I genuinely find the villagers having crushes on you adorable.
I genuinely don't understand the Star Tree discourse. They were a harmless, cute decoration, hacked or not, and Verlisify is KNOWN to be toxic and petty.
I guarantee that his "crusade" wasn't spurred by a desire to "keep the game honest."
These trees were not hurting anyone, but the harassment that dude encouraged sure did.
I never had Star trees, but I wasn't bothered by other people having them and seeing some of the islands people made with them was really cool. Now we'll likely never see them anywhere again.
I couldn't agree more. I feel like some people just want to gate keep games at any cost which is pretty sad.
Thank you so much for clarifying! I missed that 😅 I am glad they added the feature
My favorite "ugly" ( according to people ) villager is Rocket. She's such a bestie i love her SOOO much.
@@inumizuno Right??? Rocket is cutee
the thumbnail style looks very similar to izzzyzzz is this inspired?
Great video! I thought it was cool seeing my video used when you talked about New Leaf! I am truly honored lol
awww thank you! i enjoyed your video a lot!
I'm shocked to learn everyone considered City Folk to be the worst. That's the Animal Crossing that got me into the video game.
