    Finally a review of someone who loved the game as much as I do! I don't think it deserved all the hate I've seen. It's not a perfect game but man I am obsessed!

      What do you like about it?

    • @tayrexplays
      @tayrexplays ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@tebhernandez First of all I love the story so far. Some people complain it's too much but honestly it's hard to keep my attention and so all the twists and turns have done a great job at keeping me entertained. It's a strange mix of fantasy and funny but has some darker undertones that bring it back down to earth. Sort of tied in with that is the characters. The ones I've met so far I really like and have grown attached to, something that's hard to do with a game. I like that there is direction because sometimes with pure farming sims i get overwhelmed and have trouble picking a direction for myself. The story helps guide you along. I think the visuals are stunning and the music is soooooo good. When it comes to gameplay it's perfect for me but it won't be for everyone. Farming takes a backseat to the story but is important for making money and crafting as you will not make it through boss battles without being stocked up on some food. I really enjoy the simplicity of the combat system. I'm not going to lie I didn't enjoy it at first UNTIL I started to open up other class systems. The classes are so cool and way better than the starting fighter class in my opinion. I like how the boss battles are done as well reminds me of ffxiv sort of. Having to study the bosses moves and avoid aoe attacks and timing your hits just right. Idk just feels so good to play. Way different then combat you would find in say assasins creed which I am sooooo bad at. The dungeons are well designed and feels like your in a maze. I also like that they added in random events you can find throughout like you see something shiny floating in the water do you grab it? Those sort of things are always fun to run across. I should add that as I'm recording a playthrough for my channel I'm not as far into the game as a lot of people since I work full time and my schedule is limited but every night when I get home it takes everything in me to not pick it up and play it. It's won't be a game thats for everyone but I say ignore the negativity and look at the gameplay elements and if it looks like something you would enjoy then give it a try. Luckily they have the demo so there is no reason people should be buying the game and then being shocked with what it is. But the game does open up alot after the demo portion as well.

    • @tebhernandez
      @tebhernandez ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tayrexplays I played the demo and didnt really enjoy it but youre kinda pushing me over the edge. I was worried the combat would just be boring. I'll check out your gameplay with you post it. Thank you for the detailed response.

    • @tayrexplays
      @tayrexplays ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tebhernandez the combat is relatively basic with all classes being a sort of one button general attack and then with the skill tree you unlock special attacks. So if that's not something you enjoy then you probably won't like it. I'm not a fan of overly complicated combat so I enjoy it. It's more about studying the boss and counteracting them

    love the review and love the game so far. just got wind fairy and working on the seaside town now. yeah i didn't notice it before you mentioned it but it really IS another mana game in spirit, isn't it. it's such a step up in every way from rune factory. my only complaints are just nitpicks, like i want a dodge button, and there's a bunch of stuff like the food deliveries that should have gone on the quest menu but weren't, and i wish manufactured/cooked items sold for a bit more etc. beyond that, i'm thoroughly engaged at ch3b and looking up. i hope there's some automation later on like getting animals or fairies to help with watering or planting, but i'll repair that bridge when i get to it.

    With Tactics Ogre, Pokemon, and Front Mission coming out over the next few weeks I think I will still wait for a sale though.
    David comparing this game to Mana also reminds me of the Symphony of War review(which I'm currently playing) where he compared that to Fire Emblem when everywhere else I was hearing Ogre Battle. OF which from my experiences 10 hours in I'd agree both comparisons are valid.

    I remember being psyched for the game when I first heard about it, then I played the demo and was kind of put off by how short the days were, but after they fixed that issue for the full game it's become very much one of my most favorites. David, thank you for this lovely review. You really explained the positives of the title very convincingly and well. This end of year period with all these Square-Enix releases (Diofield, Elysium, Star Ocean, Harvestella, Tactics Ogre Reborn) is very overwhelming for fans of the company and the franchises, but your reviews of Star Ocean 6 and this really highlight the positives of both titles and at least for me have played a large part in me having total confidence in picking them up (which I REALLY wanted to do from the start). Much appreciation for the time and effort you put into these reviews.
    Oh, and it’s been mentioned elsewhere in this comment section, but I and others feel the title of this review is suggesting the game is bad and we shouldn’t buy it because you bought it and saw how bad it was so now we don’t have to suffer the same fate. Some people are already convinced the game won’t be worth it after the demo or even without playing the demo at all, and I feel this title may convince such people they are correct to dismiss the title without necessarily even clicking on your review to see what you have to say. So, I really hope you can edit the title to remove the confusion. But it’s your channel and of course your choice 👌🏻 . I look forward to further reviews from you with similar quality. Thanks always 👍🏻 .

    I'm back again to leave a comment about this game because i just FINALLY beat it today (18th November)............
    Someone commented that its just the new gaming generaiton that want some beat it in record time thing. Well, I'm in my early 40s and been gaming since a teen and tbh, sometimes you just want something where you can beat it and adios! (though i personally love sandbox/building/farming game the best). As my first comment goes 9 days ago, i got this game thinking maybe it was like Stardew Valley but with SE graphics...(idk the game prior to the launch, i just receive email from SE one day saying they launch a new game and so i bought it on the spot) After beating it, for me, personally, it felt like as if its a VISUAL NOVEL masquerading as a RPG that's also trying to half-heartedly push some sort of farming element. I eyerolled and raged throughout the forced and unskippable emo dialogue and cutscenes. If you actually raised your affection with the sidekick characters throughout the game, enjoy more eyeroll moments, because the moment they all reaches level 6 affection, everytime you tried to have a break at a save point in dungeon to refill stamina, you will trigger dialogue with them, and it is UNSKIPPABLE.
    If you're a masochist and enjoy this kind of game regardless if its trying to be a visual novel or a rpg or a faming sim, go for it. If you don't grind through it like I did, chances are you gonna get the worth out of your bucks because you'll be on this game for a looooooooooooooooooooooooong time. But if you have the attention span of a flea, run away as far as you can from it. So, that's my review of the game.

    Don't get me wrong, I like farming type games as I've played several of them, but I think out of all the ones I've played, My Time At Portia is probably the _only_ game that solves my #1 problem against these kinds of games: How the passage of time works in places like dungeons. They wanna add dungeons to these games, but yet not only does time pass in there, but you usually have limited stamina, to boot. It's kind of difficult to make any sort of meaningful progress while under a constant clock to not only _reach_ the dungeon, but have any time to actually _explore_ said dungeon. My Time at Portia fixes this by pausing time while inside the dungeon, and giving you food you can eat to restore stamina. Not something you want to do on a constant basis as it can get expensive, but if you got this place you really wanna explore, might be worth bringing some food and bandages along. However, you aren't given a free reign over time, though: Yes, time *is* paused in there, however dungeons are split up into multiple sections, and each section takes a certain amount of time. 3 hours, 4 hours, 5 hours depending on how deep you go. Once you clear a section, you can skip it on your next trip, and each section has a boss at the end of it. It's a really nice system that lets you take your time to explore each section without your character passing out in the middle of a dungeon impossibly far from home. Also, re-running dungeons in that game is very rewarding as there's lots of materials that can only be found in there that are oftentimes needed (you can pay other people to go in and gather them for you though instead if you wanted).
    Contrast this to games like Stardew Valley (I feel the pause time mod is absolutely necessary to even attempt the Skull Cavern), or worse... Graveyard Keeper. GYK is an exercise of "but why?" when every swing of the sword costs 2 stamina points (out of 100...) until you get the very best sword which only takes 1 stamina per swing. Doesn't matter if you hit or anything, you still spend stamina just to swing it. You never pass out due to time, but yet the whole stamina thing makes it so you gotta take lots of food to explore that game's dungeon. Monsters don't respawn thankfully, but it's still annoying to go in, kill a few monsters, go out to rest, come back, kill a few monsters, rinse repeat.
    Also, you mention the game having lots of big areas to explore, other towns, etc. How did they balance that against the need to run back to your bed before the end of the night? Is there plenty of fast travel options so you don't blow half of your day just trying to get to where you need to? I wonder how that would work... anyhow, it looks kinda interesting, but the price point in today's economy kinda gives me pause. I've still got other games I've yet to complete, but I might stick it on my wishlist all the same.

    Well the story of the game kind of reminds me a lot of FFX.
    this might be a spoiler sooo be advised.
    x
    [HST] Aria the major side character comes from a distant time age.
    [FFX] Tidus the main character comes from zanarkand from a 1000 years ago
    in both they remember the world being in a better state than it is now.
    In both games you see the past version of that character.
    in both games once you reach the ruins of said place Zanarkand/Phantasmagoria you are greeted with somber music and in the end... a seemingly all mighty being tries to convince you that doing as they are told is the only valid option they should consider and both times they end up killing the one who does try to change the way they want to live their story.
    if I remember right in harvestella somebody also said this is your story...
    also "the silence was created by our sins... because we relied so much on the monoliths"
    "Sin was a punishment for the overuse of machina" in FFX

    I'm glad i watched this. i was hyped whem they announced this. even giving up on Rune factory and sell it. then i played the demo got disappointed. it killed the hype. but when i learn there's so much more to explore and more focused to combat. there's romance. the hype got back. i love mana games to especially legend of mana..

    It's a pretty game, however it's priced as a triple A game. That's the problem for some not picking this up right now, myself included. I'd rather wait til it goes on sale.

    I tried the demo today. I really like it but on switch it's blurry and i'm sad about it cuz that game got some charm!
    Wish they would release on ps4 atleast.
    I don't like playing on pc.
    Also the first chapter isnt boring in my opinion 😅 it was more interesting than most of these kind of games.

    For me the game was just too bare-bones for the asking price. I don't think it's a bad game, but I definitely don't believe the game was worth $60 USD. At 20% off though? This game is a steal.

    A game that can't be rushed and enjoyed for the money you spend. Yes Harvestella IS Stellar! Also this game is not the kind you can just walk into WalMart and get as it fell wayy under the radar. You'll be lucky if you do otherwise it's online/Square-Enix Store or a "New" copy opened at GameStop for you.

  • @GELTONZ

    No, the new Mana game is Trinity Trigger. Aside from the fact that it's made by some of the Mana team, I consider co-op multiplayer to be a VITAL part of the Mana series identity. While I know there ARE Mana games without multiplayer, the majority of Mana games had multiplayer up until recently when pretty much all multiplayer games lost their multiplayer and we're just supposed to be fine with it. Trials of Mana especially pisses me off because despite it being a huge improvement over the original, removing multiplayer is like removing the SOUL of the Mana games. Same with Tales of Arise. Same with the Musou games before they had to apologize for DW9. Same with how hard they gutted Crystal Chronicles (online only and VERY poorly handled).
    That said, hearing it's more combat heavy has me very intrigued.

    • @hickorydickoryhk
      @hickorydickoryhk ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It doesn’t have to be an either / or situation, you don’t need to say NO to David. It’s possible for Trinity Trigger to be made as a spiritual successor to Mana and at the same time for Harvestella to contain elements of the Mana series as well. Two things can be true. Certainly saving the elemental fairies is JUST like collecting the elementals in Secret of Mana, so please try to be less combative and more gently discussive. Fandom is a shared collective where we can come together and relax and enjoy it as a community, it’s not a competition.
      Anyway, your point about the sadness of the loss of couch co-op is a good one. It is sad that such options are being removed as the world 🌎 becomes so online. But I think the soul of the Mana series is bigger than just couch co-op. I think it’s the appreciation for nature and the simpler things in life for one thing which is at the core of the series. It brings us back in touch with what it feels like to be in a forest 🌳, be surrounded by flowers 🌸, be surrounded by snow ❄️ or sand 🏜. And it shows us the value of a journey and companions, even without the co-op functionality. But you do have a valid point.

    It is one of the best games this season. The demo was only okay-ish, especially because time flew by so fast there. They definitely improved a lot in the final product. I highly recommend playing it! You can compare the demo to a tutorial because after the first Chapter(s) you get more freedom in your actions. It is a great game with interesting and lovable characters!

    tbh. It took me a good few hours before I got into it. I still don't think it's an amazing game, but I won't call it a bad game either. It's a game.
    Just that if the game was just farming it would've been bad, but also if it was just combat the game wouldn't be great either. It's the combination of the 2 that makes it playable to me atleast. Things like the lack of a dodge button and even the step skill being entirely useless since the game has input delay. The game also overtuned the mage way too much. I see no point in playing anything, but the mage. Why do a combo for 4-5 hits of 100-300 each when you can just burst out a single hit of 1000+ in a shorter amount of time?

    So far I'm going to piss away 60$ for rune factory 5 instead. At least then I can tell the male protagonist looks like a male character.

  • @DKarkarov
    @DKarkarov ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So the character designs are a bit weird and yes the male character is way too feminine looking. I feel the farming aspects get over and underplayed. A lot of people talk like it is meaningless, but it really isn't. All the best buffs/healing is tied directly to the farming, and while there are a lot of non farming ways to make money.... the farming sure dont hurt.
    My only real complaint is the lack of character customization and the insanely creepy fairies. Like who approved this va work omg it is scary. I have played horror games with less scary va.
    That said I like it a lot more than the new star ocean.

    Thank you for this. I was thinking of getting this until I saw it was a harvest kinda game which reminded me of my conservative mom and her FarmVille friends from North America who would find out I was gay and tell my mom that i was disgusting and not send her Watering Cans anymore, but seeing that it’s more of a SoM game makes me intrigued.

    So as far as battles and story goes, it's kinda like tales of arise.
    But since you say secret of mana, then yeah definitely.
    Also, yes. Yes, crafting, sandboxes, cultivation games are never to be rushed.
    The problem with the new gaming generation is that they all think that RPGs are an action adventure game like DMC, Bayonetta, and God of war. It's not a beat it and then gloat that you beat the game in record time. There's too much to do much like real life to stand around and boast you beat a game... So.
    But yea I like your review best. Everyone else review put me to sleep.
