Okay can I just be frank? 50 courses for $1000 is actually kind of a good price, especially for 7 hours. Yes it's a lot, but for the effort and the experience and comparing that to other fine dining where meals can be $250 for usually under 10 courses it's not bad at all. The problem is "do I want 50 courses?" Seems like a fun thing to do once.

Ok after watching I personally don't like a lot of the aesthetics of this particular restaurant, but I've been to a lot of Michelin Star restaurants that's I've enjoyed that aren't so performance art of pretentious. There's a lot of good places that make unique looking food that looks pleasing and tastes good without having to deal with random morals shoved down your throat.

As a joy of food guy who holds onto concept of universal connection thru food. A Sandwich lover, published art and food critic.. Gotta say: the Alchemist appears to be an event space, not a restaurant...the food used as art pieces, social and political commentary. $1k likely is cheap, if you consider what 7 hours of upscale Japanese dining might cost. Was it pretentious? Seemed so. Glad to know what to expect, if invited to the Alchemist. Ty for posting. Your reactions were hilarious. The kid is so sweet, attractive, naive. I sort of fear for him inrl. He lacks common sense.

For me food is more about the versatility, and endless possibilities. This restaurant seems to me should not be thought of as such, but as an experience, or a work of art, that utilises food to do as such. The food must be good too tho ig they want to give the experience with the food- that being said, £1000 is a wild amount of money, and almost all of the time u gonna be craving that pizza slice way more than the food there, but they shouldn't be compared in the same category imo, ones an incredibly expensive 7 hour experience, the other is satisfying, universal, tasty, and comforting meal :)

i think food having a "meaning" could be kind of cool. there could certainly be interesting parallels or metaphors made between flavors and some sort of artistic message. perhaps food is an untapped medium of art. still aint paying 1000 for this cliche 1984 stuff though.

You know how there's art? And then there is Modern Art? Well, there's food and then there is this, like 'modern-art' food. I understand it but I wouldn't pay $1000 for a consumption food representation of pollution to teach me to care more. It is a liberal thought brought to fruition, having wealthy people pay to eat shit they throw away. To me, "take it with a grain of salt."
