I didn't notice at first, and I'm still wondering why. When it hit me, I was amazed. Then after listening again and again, I've started to feel like it's actually not only at the beginning, but the whale is here during the whole song, accompanying the musicians, like whales who peacefully approach boats, filled with curiosity, for a deep, strong and ephemeral moment. But this one is not really peaceful, certainly not curious. She is quiet, but she shows some aggressivity. She knows to contain her anger. She's here simply to tell us, humans , "See. See what you did.", and shares our defaitism. She's way above us. Also, it's fascinating how music can be sometimes so overwhelming. And no, I don't even do drugs.
Check out gojira "from mars to sirius!!" Its pretty heavy but they are part of green peace and sea shepherd and theyve got some killer whale sounds they do!! Theyve got a song called flying whales even!! Theyre amazing!!😁😁🤘🤘
ik this was from so long ago, but this song had such a heartbreaking message that anyone would be angry and intense singing it, its not like this was empire ants or smth
This is the best live performance by Gorillaz. There's the meaningful repetition and lyrics. There's the visuals on the screen. There's all the people playing the instruments vigorously. There's the audience interaction. And then there's Damon, orchestrating the whole thing. You can see him putting his all into something he loves. When people say they don't like Gorillaz, I show them this.
Edgy Fandoms M8 It shows how much dedication that they put in the band and how much they're lyrics actually mean Like Fire coming out the monkeys head And Feel good inc Damon speaks out why this was successful and it's because unlike other bands and their music shifts and they're music vids take a lot of time and effort Damon's other band Blur has great music too Beetle bum is a song about Heroin People love gorillaz for they're Music shifts High class people The music videos And thought and effort
Roland Mick they were scheduled last minute and most attendees probably weren’t massive Gorillaz fans. But yea it always breaks my heart to see this performance.
Kinda upsets me that everyone knows Clint East Wood and Feel Good Inc, but you can tell these people reaaally aren't big fans of Gorillaz,, or at least Plastic Beach (considering most people probably stopped paying attention after Demon Days?)
It absolutely fucking KILLS me to see how much of his soul Damon puts into this performance, only to get meh audience participation. Idk it kinda sucks and you can see he's _really_ tying to get the audience involved, but not a lot of them are having it. I would be absolutely screaming the song if I was there or if I could hear this song live!
Zero Calibur Are you aware of how microphones work sir? Good luck getting their voices from that far away with mics designed to eliminate background noise,
Christopher Rapczynski Just watch at about 3:15, you can literally see Damon getting upset over the fact that people in the crowd don't want to sing. Also, judging by the size of the crowd it looks like a music festival, it seemed like they were opening for some other band or artist. All I was trying to say in the original post was, IF I had been there, I would've been screaming my head off. No disrespect to the people there, just me putting in my two cents.
Zero Calibur It's funny you say that, they were filling in for u2, so yeah, the fact they could sing along at all is good, but if you see he adds in an extra verse and actually goes "ubadbahuba" to try to stop the band from continuing to the next part so he could add in the part where he sings with the audience. Had they been properly prepared and knew he was gonna sing with the crowd, I'm sure they would have gotten some special recording equipment and made their audio a lot more coherent.
This...song...is...so great...I can hear it one hour long and I still don't have enough. And I hope everyone thinks about the lyrics and understands them...
As a massive Damon/Gorillaz fan, seeing this video always makes me sad. its a fuckin rad performance, but I truly wish the audience was better (or filled with fans like me, who would scream out the lyrics right back!!) Play this song on the next tour, we'll sing along!
This is THE BEST LIVE PERFORMANCE EVER Everything is (almost) perfect: The amazing guitar The fantastic bassist The violins The drums The screen Damon teaching the lyrics to the crowd
I've been listening to Gorillaz for about 14 years. I noticed the past two years or so they've been my number one Pandora station. I questioned recently whether they were my favorite band or not. I just thought this would be a longer version of pirate jet. . I don't doubt that they're my favorite band now... This performance.. The message. The imagery. The new meaning behind one of my favorite songs. My throats hurting from crying right now. Somebody beat Tool
It's a _really_ powerful performance between the meaning of the repeated lyrics, everyone putting their all into the music, the imagery, and Damon pouring his heart and soul into the performance.
It's incredible that they had to put the FRICKING lirycs because the stupid crowd didn't know the song, you can clearly see that Damon was very disapointed, but o well great performance
i mean... gorillaz replaced U2 last minute... the audience aren’t gorillaz fans and likely had never heard of a lot of plastic beach’s songs. think they did quite well considering
It a festival with loads of bands playing… The most enjoyable music is played by African guys on the jazz stage at one in afternoon, no one knows the lyrics or even the name of the group..why should people have to sing along with the west London elite as they virtue signal with their big tellys? People should be shouting ‘fuck your’.
so sorry for damon at 3.32 his face saying " PLEASE SING WITH ME, WHAT'S WRONG WITH U ??! " He didn't get the crowd he deserved, half crowd was expecting u2, and plastic beach was just relased, he should have done this in 2011 !!!

I think pirate jet is the most underrated Gorillaz song, I love it.
Fan Boy same
Fan Boy preach!
It’s brilliant I wish it was longer
And the Fall is the most underrated album (without a doubt). Its actually a pretty good album, even tho some songs are weird, some of them are amazing
It's the most underrated for sure.
Anyone else notice how the guitar riffs at the beginning sound like whales singing? Epic.

This is the type of song that I would hear when the world is about to end. It has that mood
Velázquez Quality yes
That's exactly what it's supposed to represent. That's why it's the closing track to Plastic Beach (album)
It's basically, a sarcastic statement about it being fine that we've fucked the planet by wasting resorces and polluting.
Ascension?
Sound Check?
I think this is the strongest performance for Damon... He is just so intense on this one...
ik this was from so long ago, but this song had such a heartbreaking message that anyone would be angry and intense singing it, its not like this was empire ants or smth

Clint Eastwood
Edgy Fandoms M8 It shows how much dedication that they put in the band and how much they're lyrics actually mean
Like Fire coming out the monkeys head

Damon speaks out why this was successful and
it's because unlike other bands and their music shifts

Damon's other band Blur has great music too
Beetle bum is a song about Heroin

High class people
The music videos

Nicolas-theman Dude... I love blur too... Extremely, I own 13 and have most other albums digitally.
Just saw your comment on the Detroit video
seeing him struggle to get the audience involved makes me livid. I would've been screaming those lyrics.
to be fair, this is a pretty obscure song. So most of them weren't familiar with the lyrics. They didn't do too bad considering.
Even if you don't know the lyrics this song still bangs pretty hard, the audience should be going as hard as the song does
Roland Mick they were scheduled last minute and most attendees probably weren’t massive Gorillaz fans. But yea it always breaks my heart to see this performance.
I think the audience wasn't good enough because they didn't know this song, but when they played Clint Eastwood everybody was singing
+David Andrés Rojas Yeah, I get what ya saying. The audience reaction is kinda underwhelming.
just goes to show how good of a showman Damon is.
Kinda upsets me that everyone knows Clint East Wood and Feel Good Inc, but you can tell these people reaaally aren't big fans of Gorillaz,, or at least Plastic Beach (considering most people probably stopped paying attention after Demon Days?)
Plastic Beach is my jam!
Eh I was more first two phases but i do love some tracks on plastic beach like rhinestone eyes and uhhh
It absolutely fucking KILLS me to see how much of his soul Damon puts into this performance, only to get meh audience participation. Idk it kinda sucks and you can see he's _really_ tying to get the audience involved, but not a lot of them are having it. I love Damons passion for his music.. Fans weren't into it though.. If in was there I'd be screaming my fucking head off.
Maybe the people there appreciated the music instead of being screaming?
Zero Calibur Are you aware of how microphones work sir? Good luck getting their voices from that far away with mics designed to eliminate background noise,

Zero Calibur yeah,,, these fans are just Clint Eastwood, and feel good fans... 😩
Such a powerful perfomance. Damon puts his soul into this.
i absolutely adore how damon is just wearing the most casual clothes even possible
that is the most depressing crowd ive ever seen for pirate jet lmao
It deserves better. I bet if they re-released an extended version it would be wildly popular.
Maybe it was because the music was still new
This...song...is...so great...I can hear it one hour long and I still don't have enough.
At least they'll visit your country, me in the other hand... well, I'm from Mexico, guess I'll never be able to go to a Gorillaz show :'v
oh boy
I love pirate jet so much smh
This performance makes me fuckin' cry almost every time
That guitar sounds fucking wonderful, shame it's not done in the CD version... :c
The Jackonian Ik :(
some things are just better live
If Gorillaz really do make a full return by next year and lets say they start touring. I seriously hope they include this song..
boyaka619ify and I hope they include The Parish of Space Dust, I love this song.
+0606Deco yeah... they should include songs from The Fall
I hope that they come to Roanoke
+Jq64m3r no. To me I didn't like the fall
they will
If I could only see one Gorillaz song live, it'd be this
I was so afraid the crowd weren't gonna do the chorus for him for a moment
this song is perfect!!!
He's acting like he's singing to kids
1135782 he looks like he's trying to teach a chorus of 7 year olds
I think he just got emotional because he's concerned about our planet.
Kasia Mleczarska I love Damon and Gorillaz so much
la pasion que le pone, man!! respect u.u
Honestly this is one of my favorite Gorillaz songs ever. If you put this on I can totally rock out to it and dance and stuff.
I love how much damon is into giving the message of his song and the energy behind it
This is THE BEST LIVE PERFORMANCE EVER
Everything is (almost) perfect:
The amazing guitar
The fantastic bassist
The violins
The drums
The screen
Damon teaching the lyrics to the crowd
Paul Simonon highly underrated, mostly because he learned how to play while being in a band.
@@numerohvh and joined on stage with Gorillaz with the man you taught him the instrument: Mick Jones....

One of my favorites of Gorillaz
This was the perfect closer to plastic beach, one of my favorite Gorillaz songs
This video makes me cry. I love Gorillaz!
siiiiii gorrillaz

"THE PLASTIC CUP DRINKS"
que buenos que son los gorillaz = )
All the U2 Fans out in the audience are like "da fuck is this shit?"
Its a shame that the crowd werent better, has he ever spoke about that in an interview?
What do you expect? Those people are U2 fans
I think the crowd was not too bad for a relatively new song that also had never been played live before.
gorillazman true very true
A lot of them came to see U2, who dropped out, so a lot of them didn't know the songs that well.
Sean Bolden will do

"Because we left the taps running for a hundred years."
Is it a metaphor or something?
Object Mania Yes. I believe it's commenting on how much we waste water.
taveon timmons is right, but that's exactly why it's NOT a metaphor. It's a song about us, people, wasting earth's resources and polluting the planet, and hurting the animals. And it's very staight-forward about it.
This is something I'd like a studio-recorded version of.
They only did Pirate Jet to close the Plastic Beach album, unfortunately.
there is a studio-recorded version though?? the end of plastic beach on spotify is pirate jet
Well, there is a Pirate Jets on Plastic Beach, but this live performance is very different, because it's twice as long with new sections. So, it's a pretty different version that would be nice to have a studio-recorded version of. That's just my wishful thinking, though.
