- This video will take you step-by-step through Eagle's mining process. In addition, the video explains the techniques we use to find nickel and copper.
About us:
Eagle Mine is a nickel-copper mine located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The underground mine is expected to produce 360 million pounds of nickel, 295 million pounds of copper and small amounts of other metals over its estimated eight year mine life. Eagle Mine is owned and operated by Lundin Mining Corporation.

I watched this with my 6 year old son in the UK - and he was fascinated. Thank you. He did however, have one question - how did the trucks get to the lower level after the deployment of explosives?
Well, underground mining. From what I learned, it is called stoping. These trucks designed for underground mining pass through shafts, adits and tunnels. These terms have different meanings in mining though they seemed to be similar.

No offence, but that's nothing compared to what the Springhill coal mine was in the 1950's. It's slope was 14,200 feet long, with a vertical depth of 4,000 feet. At the time, it was the deepest coal mine in North America. Unfortunately, it was closed down due to some major disasters.

What damage? Michigan passed some strictest sulfide mining law's aimed at Eagle Mine.
Those sulfide mining law's are being followed to the letter and then some!!! My son works there tells me all the procedures they have to follow.
