That saw, or at least the blades, look very flimsy. Chris might’ve been able to shoot out the blades. Hell, maybe that one soldier could’ve kept his helmet up instead of down and hope to Christ that the helmet would protect him long enough to have the saw become disabled or broken by Chris.
Well since it's made of scrap and he needs something to spin the saw. If I had to guess it's a bicycle/motorcycle chain and they're designed to survive high forces. If you shot it that could've weakened it enough to hold a metal bar up to it so it would snap but then the chain could whip out and hit the guy your trying to save. If the chain is spinning fast enough and is long enough it could decapitate a man. If you don't believe me look up chainsaw chain snap injuries. In total you could, maybe, probably, save the guy but you would definitely get injured yourself and that's not even counting the fact that the room is filling with death by suffocation.

you know, in worst case scenario like the soldier that died an agonizing death from the saw, the best way I could have think of to let him go was to give him a shot to the head than to actually wait a slow painful death. If it were an option in the game but hey, it's just a video game. That was actually brutal.
