Episode 120: Ramayan’s 33 Years, Cast Celebrates

The cast of late Ramanand Sagar’s iconic serial Ramayana reunites to celebrate the 33 years of its airing. Kapil Sharma invites Arun Govil (Ram), Dipika (Sita) and Sunil Lahri (Lakman) with huge applause from the audience. Kapil goes nostalgic as he shares his first meeting with Arun Govil. Meanwhile, Arun reveals that his first audition was rejected by Sagar for the role of Shri Ram. Dipika and Sunil also share about how they were finalized to play their roles. Further, Arun narrates how he was abused by a man for smoking a cigarette, as they considered him God. Dipika shared that how she realized after two-three months of Ramayan airing, that she and Arun were being revered by senior citizens too. Kiku Sharda and Bharti Singh’s humorous act leaves the cast in splits. They all continue to share some interesting incidents, which prove their stardom was at the peak. Later, Prem Sagar, son of Ramanand Sagar arrives and launches the biography of his visionary father titled ‘An Epic Life: Ramanand Sagar, From Barsaat to Ramayan’ written by him. मेरे गांव में बिजली नही आती थी पर रामायण देखने का इतना क्रेज था कि मोहल्ले में ब्लैक एंड व्हाइट टीवी थी जिसको ट्रैक्टर की बैट्री से चलाते थे पूरा मोहल्ला देखता था और जब बीच मे ब्रेक आते थे तो टीवी म्यूट कर देते थे कि बैटरी न खत्म हो जाये 😂😂 और अलगे दिन हमको ट्रैक्टर को स्टार्ट करने को धक्का लगाना पड़ता था 😂😂😂

I'm from a devout Christian family. Ramayan was telecasted on sundays. As it is, we usually have three church services, one service at 6:30AM, one at 8:30AM andone at 10:00AM. We'd always make it a point to go for the early morning service so that we would not miss Ramayan. Sometimes, we'd even skip church for it.

mohamed hussain we used to go to our neighbor’s house to watch CHITERHAAR , at that time in mid 70’s , very few people had tv sets. We also went every Sunday for the hindi movie. Our neighbors were really nice when I think now , how would we feel if like 15+ uninvited people came over every week to our house to watch tv.

I am from Lahore, Pakistan. Ramayan used to play on Doordarshan, in 80s when I as in high school. Only two channels those days PTV nd Doordarshan. All of our family including my grandmother used to watch this. Beautiful story of Ram stands for upholding the truth and justice and courage to challange the evil. Respect to all the actors who played the legendary roles.

My grandpa was Ravans friend and he had gone to his house for some work and I had accompanied him when I was a kid. I still remember I was so freaked out on the inside and shivering seeing him in person. They were talking so nicely and calmly. When we came out and I sat in the car I asked my grandpa why was he being so nice to U ? He's ravan! He laughed and explained to me he's jst portraying that role for tv but in real life he's a gem ! As kids we still didn't get it but now we know the entire world saw them the way they were.. what an acting and what kind people they are!

I am so grateful to watch these wonderful actors again after all these years and very grateful that there are English subtitles. I am a Hindu Punjabi who grew up with Ram and Sita, through VHS tapes that my uncle who put on for me when I visited him and his wife. Unfortunately I was never taught Hindi nor Punjabi but my aunt and unclw were so loving and patient, they would translate almost every dialogue ❤

Everyone will search for ramayan now and start seeing it once again. One of the greatest memories I ever had with this serial. This serial used to get the whole family together and spend time. It made us disciplined and made us to give respect to elders. This not because Sri Ram is god or something. This serial shows us the real essence of ramayan that makes one understand that any human who can follow the specified duties and never leave the responsibilities given to him, can become Ram one day.

I m a practicing Muslim at 43 years of age.I was 4th or 5th standards when this serial telecast. My dad gives me 25 paisa or Char aana to see this serial at Patel Galli at my village Burhanpur at Akkalkote. At that time all Indian including Hindu Muslim Sikh Christian all see n enjoy the serial. All roads were silent like curfew implemented on Roads...what a magic of Ramanada Sagar.....

I am a Pakistani muslim and I had watched all the episodes of " RAMAYAN" in 90s to learn and understand Hindu religion. It was early days of satellite television and Indian television programmes like ZEE HORROR SHOW , BOOGIE WOOGIE were very popular in Pakistan . I think Ramayan was aired on SONY television. My favourite character was Hanuman performed by Dara Singh.

Arun Govil sir is a great actor, not properly utilized by Hindi film industry. Even prior to 'Ramayan', he was famous for his classic movie 'Saawan Ko Aane Do', which was a big hit that time. His movie 'Saawan Ko Aane Do' was excellent and its songs were incredibly melodious.
Arun Ji’s normal talk about Ramayana’s shoot story is way better than the entire length of adipurush movie.
