@@scottavuton8196 I just explained the things that will happen. I don't really mind them. My dad (not a car guy) would be supremely annoyed. All personal preference haha!!
Streetport is perfect for street.. my 79 Sa22C has a large streetport with 118k miles and still fun to drive. Fuel consumption isn’t that bad. Id say 16mpg average
i dont see any issues, the hopping is a known issue of the puck clutch and a lighter flywheel. you no longer have the mass to idle and the clutch is lcoked in place. you float the clutch or keep 10% throttle because you removed things that prevented this, in an effort to get better response. but now you stall and lost low end power... and didnt tune the idle to coast in gear, why i dont know?
Nobody said you can't street it. It's impossible to get them through emissions tests though so states/provinces that need the exhaust sniff test for registration aren't going to let you so it. They are absolutely horrendous when it comes to pollution. They are AWFUL.
I have been that guy before who cranked the car over in gear on accident. Also have shut the keys off and let the clutch out in gear and almost hit stuff haha. Can never be too careful

thank you all!!! I am excited to drop a few videos next week like this one. I have sourced another car and have some fun content coming next week while I am working on the FD!
Unfortunately you have the idle set so high that you never hear the brap brap. Get yourself a weber that has a choke, drop the idle down. As for your BP surging at low revs, I have never known of anyone with a 50mm weber. By far the most common is a 48mm with extended fuel bowl. I think your rotary needs just a small amount of proper setting up for it to be so much more driveable.
The 2 things will never get old to this gear head.. #1 a loud throaty rotary #2 the smell of 2 stroke running specially with premix first thing in the morning👃
I had an old b20a5 Prelude oil burner. Ran high RPM runners always open, no air filter. I ran it for 50k miles that way. No problems whatsoever. It had a stock exhaust and the intake made so much noise I got pulled over for, but there wasn't an Idaho statute about intake noise, so I got off. "Put your money in a loud stereo like everyone else." No, you'd cite me for that.
I had an ‘82 RX7 with an RX4 13B Bridgeport and twin 48mm down draught Weber and streeted it for years. Good fun. Rocked the car at idle. 4” exhaust and rotorflo muffler sounded sweet. Miss the ol girl.
Thanks for making this video, it reminds me of when I used to street drive my RX4 with 13b bridgeport and 51IDA Weber (48IDA bored out to 51mm, also had an extension welded onto the fuel bowl). The best thing I ever did with that combo was change from F2 to F11 emulsion tubes - mid range power improved significantly. I don't know if that will translate to your carb and 12A , but it may be worth experimenting with different emulsion tubes if you haven't already. It looks like your 12A goes well and it sounds great.
This is perfect!! Exactly how I want my 1981 rx-7 to sound and drive. It's all about the Braps. Fuel consumption, who cares lol. It's a rotary, a true funhaver! Smiles per mile, that's what it's all about.
I drove mine for 1yr straight even through winter time which it suck, mine was full Bridgeport with a Holley 750 dual pump, had to do the oil change every week and fill with gas every 2 days 😂😂😂 loved it and miss it, i can't wait to get one, either the fb or the FC chassi but now they're getting very expensive and hard to find cheap in good condition... I wish i would off kept mine
Love it man. Reminds me of when I had my mikuni carburetors on my RX 3 station wagon. The intake runners would have ice on them. I told my friend not to touch it but he did and his finger got stuck to it. Lol I warned him.

It's been 3 years, this video never gets old. Also, nobody seems to talk about this Jesse brapman cook some primix on his car😂 You always remind me of breaking bad man, but a lot cooler😂
An old school trick you should do is to use a stock 2nd gen leading coil to wasted-spark fire the leading plugs. It eliminates the need to run the leading plug wires through the cap/rotor system, it adds a third spark at the very end of each power cycle supplementing the stock trailing system, its practically free to do, and if you add an MSD box you can end up with 5 to 10 sparks per power cycle as opposed to the factory 2. After airflow, ignition is the most important thing you can improve on a rotary, due to their poor combustion chamber dynamics.
For this one I just have hotter coils, nothing too crazy! The next rendition of this engine will be 10k plus rpm and a fancy ignition system will be needed foe sure!! I have done the MSD box with direct fire leading in the past. It worked great!!
Man this brings back memories i had the same set up on a 82. And the tiny powers gains just couldn't overcome the noise and the cammed like V8 thirst this motor necessitated. Not to mention the smells in the cabin. Water leaks always something new breaking and repairing, until the motor gave out and then start all over. Got rid of the headache after 4 years. RIP
I feel like with any project car the headaches are there for sure!!! BuT.... not much if anything trumps the presence of a full bridge at a stop like. And its 2 stroke like experience is epic!!
Awesome video, you should get some pool pipe lining and run it from the front straight into the two carburettor intakes, would do you good having direct cold air from the front instead of heated air from the engine bay. You can put wire mesh over the front of the pipes to stop anything going into them. That’s what the rotaries were set up intake wise in the 80s doing rally racing.
Makes me miss my '72 RX2 I had as my first car! It was mostly stock, had headers and exhaust suspension work. Always surprised the muscle cars on cruise nights! How many cylinders you got in that thing? Zero! then I brap brap the guy and beat him to the next light!
Ever since I was a child my uncles always had rx7’s and that was when I fell in love with them and I’m now 34 years old still haven’t owned one yet but it’s my dream to one day !!!!!!
love the sound. not bad for a cold start and typical for most any FB. looks a lot roomier under the hood. id like to PP my 89 GTUs which is fuel injected but i have to get it running out of storage where it sat for about a decade first. i miss the fb but the fc i will admit starts easier on cold days. i wonder how it would do ported. years back my half brother got smashed on tequila and wrecked my 82 rx7 gsl. only after his mom forced me to let him drive it to work. anyways thats how i got the 89 lol and its not bad. ill never be rich enough for an fd. either way been thinking about digging out my old rotary and seeing what i might be able to do. they claim the 6 ports 13b NA with peripheral porting and some other minor adjustments can break the 200 hp barrier, and go to almost 290 without turbo. my dream rotary car would be an NA 4 rotor but like i say either way there no horsepower like NA horsepower.
You reminded me of my days driving my old “five-oh” mustang. It was loud, it wasn’t pretty and it didn’t have a horn… so I would rev it to “honk” at people. This video was very entertaining. Funny story: I moved to a different state and had to register said mustang, so I had to come up with a way to make the horn work. I bought a button switch from Autozone and wired it up to the horn relay. The cop doing the inspection looked at me funny when my hand pressing on the horn pad didn’t synchronize with the sound of the horn, so I showed him the switch. He just said “that’s not the worst I’ve seen” and let it go.

Maybe I wouldn't mind a Bridgeport so much. I already coast neutral a lot in my speed3. It wouldn't be my daily anyway. Your videos are always super helpful!
Nah, the blacktop 4AG makes too much power... Get yourself a proper redtop motor. Bout 150-165hp (crank obviously) from a multi thousand dollar build should be good
@@RADPotential it's a s5 stock port 13b with power fc. I've tried to street tune it a couple times with friends back in the day to get rid of the 2600rpm bucking but nothing really has helped
Having drove one myself, the answer is yes but no, it’s fine once you’re moving, starting off is a pain since there is no bottom end and if you are coasting you need to put it in neutral to take the pulsing stress off the drivetrain. Bridgeport engines guzzle gas even if you are not pushing it and just cruising along. Great track engine since you’ll be in the powerband but on the street it gets too hectic
@@RADPotential the engine was in my dad’s REPU, 13B full bridge. The engine was intended for another car but he needed an engine since the one that was in it blew 2 apex seals from detonation. Even with fuel injection and a Haltech ECU it is still difficult to drive. Makes 255whp though and it rips hard. It’s only temporary, as soon as he gets his hands on a Mazda rebuilt engine he is going to crack it open and do a large street port for better driveability. I have a 84 GSLSE and I’m running the stock 13B 6port and a DCOE throttle body and Racing Beat long primary exhaust on stock porting making 197whp. Later on me and my dad are going to open it up and street port it as well
Thank man!! I love it. The mic is terrible. I tend to render 360 from my phone as the User interface is easier from the app vs the desktop program. If I run an external mic it's not bad!
Sweet bro I had an 80 12a, no porting though, Holley 4b, headers, 2.5 exh. If you like the extra power of no air cleaners then shit can that mechanical cooling fan and install electrical fan(s), frees up quite a bit of power on a 12a.
I am the original owner of a 1980 Rx7 Mazda, its garaged & ready to get back on the road. Do you work on both of your R 7s? My Rx7 is totally stock & original. Going to check out your Rx7 videos.
how did you rectify the flat spot in the end on the silver car which I believe this is, I am blind so I can't se colour. Also what happened to the engine, did you get the oil control rings fited.
Hey, Like the car, like de build, nice video and sound recording 👌 I got a '84 12A FB and i ask myself how many horsepower could make a bridgeport 12A with good tunned carbs and appropriate exhaust line? An idea of yours?
coming off the holly sniper videos I can't help wonder how the sniper would do with a bridgeport? it seems to me the 4 barrel would be more desirable for that application, but could the 2 barrel sniper handle it maybe? new to rotarys here and no where near bridgeporting just curious on your thoughts a little.
Hey dude, I have a 1978 rx7 and I also owned a rusty 1980. Mine is a 12a Bridgeport too. Amazing street car. Just wondering if you have had issues with twitchy steering? Both of mine have had a significant dead spot and gets twitchy at high speeds etc. Any advice?
air cleaners dont kill power...non puck clutches, steel flywheels are the way to go on st/strip cars. Better launch, shift recovery way better manners cant go wrong. Too many say go buy one cause they did and think it "revs" faster so it must make the car faster. Properly sized, adjust carb with choke she will fire right up any weather.
i randomly stumbled on this video and saw the Kubota jacket, do you still work for them? i currently work there and would love to meet someone else with a RX-7
Imo the rotary should never idle below 1000, i like mine higher like yours, it solves alot of small issues in my opinion, like rough idle. Weak take off...etc
Its basically as dialed as it will be with the size of the carb. I have a video series about tuning that carb. I noticed a bigger help on transition with going to a smaller venturi, but it does rob power on the top end. It's a balance
@@liamf3647 I have a 45DCOE in my stockport. 36mm is good without boggin between 3-4k rpm but loses power above 6krpm compared to a 38mm. I stick with the 38mm even if the transitions are sketchy.
I love the bridge port and the way it sounds but you don't need a 2 1/2 inch downpipe. If you're car was pushing 4-500 horsepower then yes but 2 inches would have been perfectly sufficient. I suppose if you want to be really loud but you're not helping horsepower much with that setup. And why did you change the steering wheel? That one doesn't look any better or much different than the stock wheel.

For sure!!!! What was your engine in??
Later on me and my dad are going to open it up and street port it as well
Heck yea man!! Thats sick!!! Repu are the bomb!!
Well done youtube algo. Another lovely video. Brap brap brap..... Full bridgeport 🤘
Awesome video as always!! Nice heater too haha
you should just get a vented hood, and some pipes bent upwards 45 degrees and itb sized filters on that intake
I love the insta 360 cam dude 🙌 how’s that working for you? Rendering in 360 like that? Not to big of a pain?
Thank man!! I love it. The mic is terrible. I tend to render 360 from my phone as the User interface is easier from the app vs the desktop program. If I run an external mic it's not bad!
Haha old school! Sick
Sweet bro I had an 80 12a, no porting though, Holley 4b, headers, 2.5 exh. If you like the extra power of no air cleaners then shit can that mechanical cooling fan and install electrical fan(s), frees up quite a bit of power on a 12a.
WOW BRO SOUNDS SOOO GOOD I want to learn how to build one of these so bad
i also deal with Karens with a 2 step warning
I judge my drives on a positive or negative based on reactions. usually more positive than negative!
I can smell it through the video 😭
Nice car ! Love the sound of a Bridgeport
*Shifts at 7000 Rpm*
My dad: *Shifts at 9000 RPM in his series 2 RX4 13b Bridgeport*
I can't get my trans to take those shifts. I had an rx8 trans in my rally car. It would take a 9k shift all day
The Del Orto DHLA side-draft carb is FANTASTIC for this engine AND it has a choke.
Hey,
Like the car, like de build, nice video and sound recording 👌
I got a '84 12A FB and i ask myself how many horsepower could make a bridgeport 12A with good tunned carbs and appropriate exhaust line?
An idea of yours?
Thank you sir!!! I'd say Probabaly over 200.
Mine pig roots exactly the same 👍
its a horsepower thing :)
coming off the holly sniper videos I can't help wonder how the sniper would do with a bridgeport? it seems to me the 4 barrel would be more desirable for that application, but could the 2 barrel sniper handle it maybe? new to rotarys here and no where near bridgeporting just curious on your thoughts a little.
Id run the 4 barrel for the full bridge. Having the primary and secondary staging would help a bunch with driveability
Any advice?
I have a video on adjusting the steering box. Should be able to fix it up!
@@RADPotential legend I will hunt for it after work! Thanks from New Zealand
You're very welcome!!!
Mine doesn't buck until it goes down to 1600, but it's a street port. Very nice SA ♥
air cleaners dont kill power...non puck clutches, steel flywheels are the way to go on st/strip cars. Better launch, shift recovery way better manners cant go wrong. Too many say go buy one cause they did and think it "revs" faster so it must make the car faster.
Properly sized, adjust carb with choke she will fire right up any weather.
The clock on the dash 😍
i randomly stumbled on this video and saw the Kubota jacket, do you still work for them? i currently work there and would love to meet someone else with a RX-7
What happened to the holley fuel injection install and tune series??..
takes time to get parts in the mail sir.
Rotaries kinda remind me of the Lexus LFA, everything in the name of the spinning Dorito
The LFA is epic. Just like the rotary. Such a unique sound!!
Imo the rotary should never idle below 1000, i like mine higher like yours, it solves alot of small issues in my opinion, like rough idle. Weak take off...etc
Absolutely beautiful
All done with one hand and no PS. Sick
Love it. Great video. I'd love to try one.
What would you think about racing an rx8 in 24 hours of lemons? With cooling mods at a minimum and probably a rebuild
You definitely get a few karins looks with a bridge port. Especially if your in a major city. Also cops. I’m from NY. You get pulled over often.
Police here love the car as long as I'm not being stupid.
Have you tested changing the idle jets? They sort of act as a transition and may help from the 2k-3k range
Its basically as dialed as it will be with the size of the carb. I have a video series about tuning that carb. I noticed a bigger help on transition with going to a smaller venturi, but it does rob power on the top end. It's a balance
@@RADPotential Nice, I am working on a 42 dcoe-8 setup. Smaller than a 45, but I can still run 36mm chokes.
I had 48 chokes in it. Went to a 43
@@liamf3647 I have a 45DCOE in my stockport.
Damn dude you got a rx5 cosmo if you went to dggr I'm guessing your somewhere near nc tn
Yessir!! Middle TN!
@@RADPotential nice im just west of charlotte nc in alexander ive got a rx5 cosmo 13b that i will be swapping from my 12a and im needing a few parts
Just a motor? In what car
I love that generation 🤘😎👍💯❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
What ever happened to the Cosmo in the background
Nice video, keep up the good work!
