I was in the 1st mardiv band from 77 to 78. We were the first to play many kickin charts of the day including Maynard Ferguson... hat tip to a very good friend of mine, SSgt Steve Cseplo on lead trumpet and Lcpl Brian Guilmete on Fluglehorn for th e Mangione stuff. I would love to locate old video of us from somewhere, but semper fi to my fellow bandsmen.

I am Dave Grilly and I play lead alto sax in the SGI-USA Chicago Ikeda Kings Big Band. We will be presenting our effort with this chart to internationally acclaimed jazz guitarist Larry Coryel in hopes that he will accept our invitation to become our Honorary Music Director. I really enjoyed listening to this vigorous version of Children of Sanchez by the youthful 1st Div U. S. Marine Corps Big Band.
I know this is a bit faster than the original, but is this arrangement supposed to be this fast or did they accidentally played it too fast. Either way, impressive. I hope that drummer is making a living playing those drums today.
they are a Drum and Bugle Corps... the last Paid Corps... i saw them in 2005 in the Giants Stadium in New York when i marched for the Colts out of Dubuque Iowa... if it seamed rushed its probablly that they are so good musicans they dont really need to practice any longer.... when you are a professional (paid to play music) then when they do theses side gigs it isnt in their regular set of Songs then maybe they took 3 hours together before this performance... its Different if you never Marched Drum and Bugle Corps then there is now ay to compare to anything else.
Super quick tempo, but I understand why. I NEVER say this, but the drummer was spot f'ing on. Love love LOVE this tune. Well done.

Was that the Dave Wolpe arrangement? Love the original and dying to get an arrangement of this in my big bands hands.
