Great Stuff Alan, thanks for mentioning on HM the other night, nice highlights of the band as well, I did get my order in thanks to you (Reasonably Priced IMO)Appreciate That! Enjoyed Man! Take Care!
Great subject today Alan!! I know them from their compilation appearance on HMH 2 and NWOBHM Vol. 4. Your analogy to Schenker era UFO is brilliant. They've got a real "one foot in the 70's and the other in the 80's" feel to them. THe news that they'll be getting the anthology treatment comes as a great surprise. Can't wait to see it's release.
@@letstalkmetal Awesome. You may need two episodes for Bitches Sin. They had a very interesting run of up's and down's, and of course there's the GOLDSMITH factor as well. I've got files on the computer of Ian Toomey's last album from 2016. It was a pretty solid effort as I recall, but I haven't listened to in quite some time.
@@Frank_nwobhm I decided not to include any of the other Tooney-based projects. I've heard some of that material but not all of it, and it's been a long time. Plus, there is plenty to talk about with just the BS catalog.
On to the Borderline is certainly my favorite NWOBHM single, followed by the Virtue single! They were able to deliver on the highly emotional yet still rocking sound of the best Thin Lizzy
Thin Lizzy is a very good comparison Jack! And Virtue is high on my list of singles too. Mendes Prey and Charger are my top two, though Charger was awfully late to the NWOBHM party.
Another great video. Favorite song by them is take me cross the water. Don't know if there is an anthology for them, but I'd love to see one for j j's powerhouse .
JJs Powerhouse were great! I don't know of an anthology; there's the album on High Roller but no official collection TMK. If one comes out I hope it includes the White Heat tracks too!
As for a band I'd like to see get an anthology treatment... I think maybe DRAGSTER. I know they had one in 1999, but it didn't include "DO IT", the track exclusive to the Heavy Metal Heroes compilation. For my money, that could be the greatest NWOBHM song of all time!! It's totally raw and raunchy and somewhat shocking.
Mendes Prey are a terrific band, I have the 2010 anthology and it spends lots of time in my CD player. Looking forward to the upcoming anthology with the additional 3 songs. It's really a shame how many terrific bands imploded mainly due to horrible management decisions, seems like the story for so many. Great video Alan, thank you!
Mendes Prey were the best NWOBHM band in my book, followed by none other than Bitches Sin! Songs like Drifting and Don't Shine absolutely set them apart from the rest... Incredible how unknown they turned out to be. Other similar sounding bands would be Clientelle and Hammerhead, by the way.
They certainly sound like a band I would check out alan I'll add it to the ever expanding list of bands to check out! recently expanded my American power metal collection with my 1st jag panzer album cast the stones a very solid record I think
Hey Alan. Whenever you do a NWOBHM episode, I’m reminded of how little I know of this era of metal. Forgive the newbie question but where does the odd band name come from? I did really enjoy those clips and will be following up with checking them out. Well done, as always
Good question; I'm not sure about the name's origin. Mendes was a city in ancient Egypt with a Ram deity. I always figured it had something to do with that.
Their riffs are so unique, really like the song Lone Survivor. Awesome shirt too
Thanks! Glad you like them, they really did have a great sound.
Thanks Alan, always a pleasure. That's exactly the reason why you're considered one of the top experts in this field!
Thanks Mike, hope to see you in the chat Friday night!
Thanks so much for this - what an awesome treasure of a band!
I will be trying to spread the word about it - deserves to be WAY better known.
I agree! Glad you dig 'em \m/

Awesome, glad you got your order in! It's on my To Order List :)

Cheers Frank! Next Tuesday should be my long overdue Bitches Sin video, so back-to-back NWOBHM weeks are in the works.

Love Mendes Prey, one of my fave nwobhm bands ever. Edit: until that dreadful Wonderland single.
Cheers Kristian, same here!
Nice. Second song has that shuffle reminiscent of Mama's Boys.
Hadn't thought of Mama's Boys in ages!
The first mendes prey single is epic. I might buy one of those dark star records that no remorse have just pressed up
I just fund an older pressing of Dark Star (not the orig) at a record show so I probably won't pick that one up.

Agreed, one bad decision at the wrong time sank a lot of bands :( Hope you dig the new tracks!

I just made a Bitches Sin video last night, it should be posted next Tues. Hammerhead were also fantastic!

That's a good Panzer album Robert, very representative of their style.Glad you liked the Mendes Prey clips too :)
