Yeah hopefully AMDip actually fixes their trash architecture and fixes the memory controller and OC capability on their AM5 chips. It’s just not a good choice over intel because I don’t see any Ryzen platform running D5 8000mts and up @cl38 like me :)
4090/13900K = faster than anything AMDip could ever create. AMD is good for people who are okay with having slow systems. You know the type of people who can’t overclock and just turn on xmp and run with it without tightening timings and optimizing their hardware.

decades ago I was part of AMI (another IC manufacture of bygone days), and we had the same opportunity to do the recycling and did so. Oddly we made more money for selling parts that were considered 'defective' from the original specification, then we made from the original chips. But as with the 5600x3d, it was a very situational. Normally lost opportunity costs make the time used to find those 'defective' chips not worth the profit that can be made in retesting and marketing the reclaimed chips.

Companies frequently hold stock back specifically for warranty that they don't consider part of their sales inventory. They should have a very good idea of failure rates over the warranty period, so it should be straightforward to have enough parts on hand, especially given the effectively limited release of these.
Or they could just ship 5800X3D as a replacement part once warranty stock runs out.

gamers nexus made a vid about that, he claims there wasn't enough waste for it to be global launch (microcenter estimated 3-6months of supply)... and if you consider that you'd have to split whole stock to many more retailers, countries etc... then i'd expect 3-12 days max of availbility, so i kinda doubt you'd be able to get your hands on one without hunting it, and scalping would increase it to 5800x3d price most probably or something

They were sold out pretty much instantly and impossible to get, because they had the same limitation of being leftover scrap dies that didn't make it to higher bins. No bots needed to scalp em which is irony coming from a tech company. The warranty guarantee is a trade off from being recycled parts (smart in and of itself) but the limited runs make it almost collectable, especially if the price is right. The 5800x3D was highly favored right? They look about the same to me lol. Kinda reminds me of the 3300x that never really made it mainstream but if you had one and got it for the MSRP, it was supposedly a hell of a little cpu. I think this is a "final upgrade" part for people on older AM4 who aren't quite ready to buy an AM5 (or Team Blue) system to replace it. My nephew is on a 2600X and is getting married next month.. he can't afford to upgrade that system. In the spirit of your "philanthropy" video I might just get him one of these.
Regarding criticism of MicroCenter's in store only policy... why should they try to compete with Newegg or Amazon? Their attraction is that they HAVE physical locations. I'm about 50 minutes from the St. David's location north of Philly, and I usually find myself talking to other PC enthusiasts when I go there. Sometimes it's beneficial to actually look AT the thing you're buying, and you can't get that online. I went in there to buy a case recently and decided on a Fractal North after seeing it in person... but they didn't have the Black/Walnut/Tempered Glass version on hand. While setting up an order, the department manager came over and showed me that Newegg was having a sale. While he said they would happily match their price, I could get it faster through Newegg. Of course, I left with $200 in RGB fans I didn't really need, but that's how they make money, right? Popups and ads are ignored at best, annoying at worst... but a nice display of LianLi fans with a SALE sign hanging above it just might grab your attention.

I'm more of an Intel/Nvidia type of guy these days, but I was all AMD for the first decade of my PC building, and this is very cool to see. Love to see them providing further life for the AM4 platform, and just figuring out something to do with all those chips.
I wouldn't worry too much about the warranty, the way it works is you say you intend to sell 1000 products, and you foresee a possible failure of up to 20 of them (2%), you make sure you have at least 50 (5%) on hand to cover that "acceptable failure rate". The only time a warranty can really just go terrible is if there are failures outside of the acceptable rate by a massive margin.

The only problem with this is AMD is charging way to much for it. The 5600x3d should be $160. It’s a last generation 6 core 12 thread CPU and also doesn’t have an integrated graphics either. Why pay $230 for this it’s a complete rip off?

I'm 18mins from a Microcenter. Love their store! CPU+Mobo combos = the best!
One of the killer deals of Microcenter are RAM the bundles!
    $628 = 7950X3D (16 core)
    $540 = 7950X (16 core)
    $520 = 7900X3D (12 core)
    $420 = 7800X3D (8 core)
The best deal is the 7950X3D since it includes 32GD DDR5 6000Mhz by G.Skill, $110 savings.
So it becomes a $518 deal in a sense. (The others are -$20 off mobo) - Not sure if the -$20 off mobo applies with free memory.
$630 for 7900X3D once you buy the memory vs $628 with the 7950X3D. Makes a person wonder ($100 more to double the cores over the 7800X3D)

Don’t forget they came up with those crazy wheels that worked like decoder rings for their naming scheme moving forward. They were gonna start mixing and matching parts from generations by the sound of it, and I wouldn’t be surprised if AM4 gets all the scraps moving forward. Maybe some of these current Gen AM5 CPUs are going to fail to meet the specs for AM5, but the fact that chiplets can be placed onto substrates that work with either platform, means that they might come up with a budget GPU for AM4 that has newer cores.
They might not, but they have the option, and if they wanted to move a Quad Core CPU with crazy fast cores, or a huge amount of cache, they could move it a lot faster on AM4 than AM5 because of the existing install base.
I think AMD would be silly to abandon a mature platform like AM4 when it could be used to liquidate factory second silicon faster than their latest AM5 platform. This keeps the AM5 as premium, which AM4 becomes their budget friendly option.
If I’m right and they continue to do this kind of stuff, it’s a brilliant way to save money and make eWaste a viable product.
I wouldn’t worry as much about the warranty, because silicon that is gonna fail will fail quickly or last for longer than the boards it sockets into. Considering that these have already failed in some way means that the weakest part of them has already been culled. Now I’m not saying these will be flawless, but I’d bet the failure rate is actually lower than a typical CPU product from AMD, and they can probably offer upgrades to 5800X3D or credit towards another purchase if they do fail a second time.
Can’t wait to see how they perform, because the price makes me wonder if it meets or beats the new 7600 CPUs.

  • @DaemonForce

Warranty will most likely be 5600X3D being auto-filled with remaining 5800X3D SKUs. I would be tempted to go out and get this all because my 3600 is getting kinda long in the tooth but good. A 5600X3D would be a mad gaming/encoding/streaming chip and possibly an outstanding overclocker in the wrong board.

I would like to see them restock them occasionally depending on how many 5800x3d chips fail to meet specs during production. Maybe they can refill inventory every 6 months or they can just keep the new failed 5800x3ds that pass validation to be a 5600x3d in inventory for RMAs and warranty issues.

  • @chadhartsees
    @chadhartsees ปีที่แล้ว +1

This reminds me of the 90's strategy of the "OverDrive" SKUs Intel released. The customer gives you their upgrade money to keep their old platform computer going and, later, will likely give you their "whole new computer" money when they finally upgrade their platform later - instead of *just* getting their platform upgrade money further down the road. I think it's a good way to make 1 customer turn into a customer again. That is, of course, if these are sensibly priced for people to upgrade vs. just buying an AM4 platform as a low cost build.

I live in So CA and in some of the reviews, an employee stated that the management knows they are the only store in a 100 mile radius. I wanted to make the move from New EGG to MC for my daughters upgraded system, after doing a deep dive into the reviews, I'm not making the drive for that crap. doesn't matter how popular they were before, but because they have known "entities" on youtube propagating the idea for them, they'll run out quick.
