Thanks for your most wonderful information, Bishop! Now I could learn how the Catholic bishops, including Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Davao (my hometown), His Excellency Most Rev. Romulo Valles, DD, wear the vestments like alb (or priestly habit as we called, and amice are optional), pectoral cross, zuccheto (pink for bishops or archbishops and red for cardinals), stole, and chasuble (depend on the colors of the liturgical seasons of the Roman Catholic Church like red for the Passion of Christ, Apostles (except St. John the Evangelist), Holy Spirit, and Martyrs, white for Christmas, Easter, Holy Trinity, Corpus Christi, Christ the King, and most important Feasts, green for the Ordinary Time, and violet (or purple) for seasons of Advent and Lent (pink or rose for Gaudete and Laurete Sundays) and for the Sacrament of Confession and the Requiem) during the Holy Mass! Greetings from Davao City in the Philippines! 🙏❤️🇵🇭🇻🇦
Growing up I served at the alter in lots of Catholic mass and had first hand experience of this graciation act of vestments. Now am grown in age and have come to realise that serving GOD is the surest insurance policy. Thanks bishop for taking the wonderful video
This was extremely informative and taught so clearly and simply. I am a Protestant African American Bishop. I have been for 17 years. It is my endeavor to honor sacred office and its garments and customs. I am currently writing a book that gives clarity to others regarding these things. Would it be possible to have an audience with the Bishop and learn more? or is there some office that church has that helps with things like this. I think its important to honor these garments if we are going to wear them.
This just goes to show how little we lay people know about priests. I’ve always looked up to and admired Catholic priests. I’ve often felt bad for them because of all the horrible things they experience, like presiding over funerals, hearing the worst part of human nature in the confessional. But to know how uncomfortable and hot they must be during the celebration of Mass astounds me. If only the world knew how much Catholic priests suffer for their flocks. There should be a national holiday to celebrate all priests and all their sacrifices. May God bless all of you, your friends, ministry and parishes ✝️
Thank you Bishop and Father this is very informative. May I ask? Does dalmatic (for bishops) follow Liturgical color per season together with chasuble and stole? Thanks
If it's used as an outer garment used by deacons then the dalmatic and/or tunical if there is a subdeacon follows the liturgical colors and is usualy more decorated and a little heavy, but if the bishop is using a dalmatic or if it's the extraordinary form both the dalmatic and tuniucal doesn't follow any liturgical color for the season but is just planw white and much more light and not that decorated
Yes, the dalmatic should follow the liturgical colour of the chasuble, but if the parish doesn’t have, or cannot afford, to have them then white is okay at all times.
Abbots also wear the vestments that are reserved for bishops, so if you look at a bishop and abbot side by side fully vested you won’t be able to tell the difference between the bishop and a abbot.
There is a difference, the Abbot's zucchetto will be black and not purple like the bishop's or red like a Cardinal's or white like the Pope's. The pectoral cross worn by a bishop when vested for mass will be green and gold an Abbot's will not be.
I wonder how true it is that if a bishop celebrates mass outside of his diocese, the hook of his crozier is inward. If he is celebrating mass within his diocese, the hook is outward.
Not "perform" Mass...the word is "offer". The zuchetto does not have its origin in the Jewish Faith. It looks similar. Its purpose was to cover the tonsure. It has a different origin. The bishops pectoral (chest) cross is worn on a cord the colour of which is according to rank. Green is for bishops. It is worn under the dalmatic and chasuble. I think the full traditional pontificals with gloves and maniple is far more authentic. The mitre has two horns which symbolise the New and Old Testaments. The crozier is very odd. Gothic vestments gothic crozier.
I never understood the reasoning behind the vestments of the clergy. How can you have a King of Kings and God Incarnate Who walked around in His earthly life wearing the ordinary clothing of common people, and who said "Take no thought for what you will put on" - and then create for yourselves elaborate, shiny, ornate vestments for flawed sinful men to adorn themselves with to impress others with their "rank", while they claim to represent that same King of Kings and God Incarnate Who wore ordinary clothing during His earthly life? And why is there no indication that the Apostles of Christ or the earliest Church fathers decked themselves out with all that elaborate garb?

The PX ( the chi-rho monogram. Through the two letters look like P and X ) were designed by none other that Pagan emperor Constantine combining his monogram with that of Christ!. @@georgepierson4920 Please ask yourself; Why are Bishop's area of oversight called 'diosease'? A lovely video, informative and rather inspiring with the Bishops words of protecting his flock. Thank you both.
Very nice and simple explanation of the sometimes confusing symbols of our Faith

I didn't know that about the Pelican. 🥰😘❤
Beautiful attire, especially the crozier! Many blessings from Sankt Ansgars Archdiocese!
I guess this is why my church is so cold. It's to keep the priest from over heating
Blessings from Cagayan de Oro archdiocese

Wow, that was beautiful, Excellency.. I need to know the names of all the pieces worn by my priests and Bishops... 🙏🙏💞🙏🙏🇵🇬🇵🇬
Very nice explanation even for those who know all of the symbols.

It would be nice to hear the prayer that you say when putting the article of clothing on. Fastenating.

Aren't pelicans exclusively native to Australia?
Is a crozier a gift or does each bishop design his own crozier ?
Could be either. Some design their own, while others inherit theirs from another bishop, or the diocese that they are the bishop of.
I think I saw blue vestment in the wardrobe.
When is it worn?
Blue is worn on celebrations of the virgin mary, but you won't see it worn in the united states. in the US, white is worn on the celebrations of mary.
@@percypower240In Countries such as the Philippines the Marian Chasuble can only be wore on during the Immaculate conception Mass
What about the parlium?
Three parlium is for Archbishops
No maniple?
It's optional

That is why I whant to be a bishop to work for God.

The Apostles held the first council in Acts 15. Do you have a problem with that as well?

If you really were a true Bishop you would not hand Holy Communion out in people's hands that is an insult to god stop blaspheming him.
Jesus did not stick bread directly in the Apostles mouths, he handed the bread out.
