This is so hypocritical, SONY is always promoting exclusivity, over and over, now that Microsoft will own a big franchise they argue that owning it will damage competition? come on, they have been doing the same for decades.

What you don't understand is Sony exclusives are either made by their first party studios or are fully or partially funded by Sony like the FF7 remake for example. Microsoft doesn't create shit they haven't been able to compete in gaming with Sony losing every single generation to them in the end, the last one very badly. All Microsoft does is let others be creative and buy them effectively taking what is and has always been third party to make it exclusive. They're taking away games unlike Sony who get exclusivity on things they help make a reality.
Microsoft is an antitrust Monster that escaped so many lawsuits with bribes and lobbying that they are today the monopoly of PC operating systems by literally buying or burying the competition with sheer financial longevity. Now they're doing that with gaming and it's absolutely bad for gaming, consumers and everyone involved in the long run. The good guys act they're putting on right now only fools the idiots out there.
There's a difference between purchasing studios and gobbling up entire publishers with an entire portfolio of IPs vs growing your talent and acquiring more.
Everything Microsoft bought turned to shit because all they care about is the IPs but they can't keep the talent unlike Sony. You wanna talk hypocrisy and villainy? It's all Microsoft man.

First of all, I'm curious what Nintendo's stand on this is. Considering how large their first party library is, and how stringent they are with allowing people access to their platform, it would be interesting to see if they agree with Sony or Microsoft. Secondly, Sony sounds like they are not worried whether it is anti-competitive, but rather how losing ABK's libraries would affect their sales. If Microsoft keeps COD multiplatform for the forseeable future (next 10-30 years), then Sony's argument doesn't hold that much water. Especially when you see all the competitors out there. Battlefield, Counter Strike are all games that challenge COD for first place.

    • @vaguedreams
      @vaguedreams 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nintendo don't give a flip.
Nintendo is absolutely not stringent about letting people develop for their platform.
They sold Rare to MS and don't have any particular third party exclusive or timed contracts that I am aware of. They and Sony also have bad blood. I'm pretty certain they are on team MS here.
You don't plan for the immediate future, you plan for down the line (post contracts). Yes they are worried because CoD has proven itself to be a system seller and if MS pulls it after their contractual obligations end it's going to be an issue.

This is inadvertently a massive self-own on Sony's part. They object to Microsoft purchasing CoD because they believe it could influence people's choice when deciding on a console to purchase. Yet they themselves participate in this even more, both internal exclusives and through acquiring like Bungie. But they don't mind it when it's their side. So either you could take these statements in two ways: Either Sony being massive hypocrites, or they're basically admitting that they don't believe any of their IPs are good enough to influence console sales.
Either way, horrible look for Sony.
Edit: It gets even worse, they complain about GamePass even though they literally have a similar service and literally say that it would take years for a competitor (which they are) to be about to make something just as good. Sony is so desperate to block this that they are basically admitting that Microsoft is better in every way and that their offerings suck in comparison.

Sony have attained a position of market leadership largely by leveraging aggressive first and third party licencing agreements. That's their modus operandi. Over recent years they've become even more aggressive and monopolistic in this pursuit.
So to pretend they're worried about CoD ownership creating a monopoly over one particular segment of gaming (FPS/online shooters) is beyond hypocritical.
Of course, Microsoft are correct in their responses; this is really about Xbox outflanking Sony by innovating a new form of game delivery with Game Pass, and Sony trying to prevent them from doing so. Innovation and competition are two things Sony doesn't want.

All of these are things Sony could’ve done despite having less capital. If you pull your head out of the sand it becomes immediately obvious that Microsoft only turned things around in recent years due to better decision making and more pro consumer practices, with Sony’s previous successes almost entirely disproving the idea that it’s somehow impossible to compete without throwing money around. Sony can do better for their smaller development studios and for their consumers, they’ve always known they can and always could have, and they’re mad that they’re being forced by COMPETITION to grapple with that reality, even though being forced to do better in this way is literally the perfect example of the free market working as intended.
Miss me with your dick riding. Sony says that nothing competes with Call of Duty, and no company even with a massive AAA budget could ever make anything that competes against it.
Fortnite's 2021 revenue was $5.8 billion. Activision Blizzard as a whole company had $8.8 billion in revenue in 2021 which includes Call of Duty and many other games.
Sony says that they can't compete with Microsoft, but Microsoft have literally told them how to compete. Sony plugs their ears and screams louder that they can't compete. It's ironic that they won't look to the future when one of the biggest boons for them in the gaming landscape was Squaresoft refusing to put Final Fantasy on a cartridge any more causing a massive swell in profits for them whilst taking it away from their competition.
Sony's current posture and decision making is reminiscent of Sega in the late 80s and early 90s. Refusing to adapt, thinking that you own the market, assuming that because you're the big dog now, you always will be. Several gaming companies have made this error. We forget about them in the modern day because these errors are what made them obsolete and allowed the likes of Sony and Microsoft to create a new industry.
I'm not saying Sony will disappear any time soon, but they're certainly not bringing in prospective players with this kind of stuff.

Sony isn't reminiscent of sega, sony is reminiscent of themselves, more specifically mid 2000s
Back when they made the PS3 they made the architecture complected af, to the point that not even they can understand it and can't make emulators for it, and they made it super expensive
They did those 2 thing thinking developers and costumers were going to suck it up and deal with it and what happened? Everyone bought a 360 and developers started working on the 360 first and then porting to ps3 which resulted in the ps3 version being worse
They spent that entire generation rebuilding the trust they lost from everyone but they clearly didn't learn shit because here we are again with Playstation believing they can do no wrong and that we are just going to put up with their bs
