My father started a business selling shoes, he only had "fancy" looking shoes, they did cost the same as anything else when it came to fine shoes.. But he polished them and made em look shiny therefor more expensive. Whenever customers came in he gave them 20 dollars worth of whiskey and he usually made between 3-400 bucks for the trade.
Its stupid, but it works.

To be fair - a $100 suit is going to be shitty. He could've gone for a $1500 budget with 3 suits to start, a large amount for sure, but the quality is exponentially greater in the $500+ range. $1,000 per suit is probably the sweet spot if you're in a profession where these things really, really matter (like being a lawyer), but it's expensive as fuck.
Come to India for suit shopping,the most premium stuff costs in the range of 15-20k rupees, at 1 USD=85 INR, you could get good stuff at a bargain
And yes I know there is more premium stuff than the range I mentioned

there is definitely a difference in suit quality as you go up or down the ladder i remember for my cousin's wedding had a suit with vest and tie in cyprus heat but was comfortable and breathed enough i really didn't care about the heat.
I've seen lawyers in khakis and a plaid shirt wipe the floor with lawyers in multi thousand dollar suits. What they're wearing shouldn't actually matter, but it shows the arrogance of people.
@@Ty-fb5uq The point of dressing nice is to impress. The more expensive the suit, you could argue the more arrogant they are... but you could also argue that it's how they show how invested they are in their clients; always dressing to impress, at the highest level possible.

Why does it matter what kind of suit you're wearing? It's the name of show that's why it matters
As someone who wears suits daily for work. You absolutely can tell a $100 suit from a $500. Anything higher is a nit negligible unless you really know your stuff and care about it.
*hands Mike a glass of wine, then proceeds to go down town on him (wink wink)
A great tailor is a well-paid talent.
I learned this working in Advertising. Clients with lots of money and where they put it, are very finnicky. The point is, that you have the expensive suit/watch/shoes/car/black card, to incline them to believe that you can afford all of that, because you have lots of money... and you have lots of money, because youre damn good at your job. You could be up to your eyeballs on debt, getting all of that, but they wont know that.
It's also wise to have a backup suit or two in your office. God forbid you eat something or spill coffee on yourself... then a client comes in and its one of two or three times theyve seen you. Where the impression now, is that 33-50% of the time, you look like a disheveled dumpster fire... where now they wonder if you cant dress yourself, what coupd you possibly be doing with their money.
Same goes for having all the style ensemble of said suit, down pat and looking sharp. So many guys I know try to pass off not following style guidelines, like theyre armchair revolutionaries or something. However, those guidelines exist to make you look as good as possible. Unless there's a sprezzatura aspect... but that only works of everything else is on point. That way it looks like a conscious decision and not what it is... ignorance induced sloppiness.
It is a bit like not buying the cheapest bottle of wine on the menu. The bottom of the barrel, polyester is awful, but you could get a $300-400 wool suit tailored and it would look presentable to people without a refined eye. Although, you might have to leave NYC to find one at that price. Or you could spend $3-5k on a bespoke suit or an Armani, off the rack. The big thing is material and tailoring. Then, shoes. I wouldn't be surprised if a high ticket corporate attorney had two weeks of suits for every season.
