"There's a fairytale about this club" said Celtic manager Billy McNeill on winning the double in the clubs centenary year.
This video charts the history of that Celtic fairytale; The Glasgow club founded in 1888 by Irish immigrants. A club which grew 'from the graveyard to Paradise', from the six in a row league winners of the early 1900s to the nine in a row success of the 60s and 70s; from the 1938 Empire Exhibition Cup Winner (a team many rank with the Lisbon Lions) to the double winners of 1988.
Its packed with action, information, and archive footage - much of it not seen for decades bringing to life the great names of the past: Jock Stein, Patsy Gallacher, Jimmy Johnstone, 'Dixie' Deans and the names of recent years, Kenny Dalglish, Charlie Nicholas and many more.
William McIlvanney celebrates Celtics centenary with the help of many who made it happen and pays tribute to fine attacking football, to the creative skill of great players, to the foresight of managers, the wisdom of chairmen, and above all to the loyalty of the fans who have made Celtic FC - in Bill Shankly's words - "the most successful football club in the world".
Had this as a child. Watched it over and over and over and over again. Loved wee Jinky.
Got the VHS. No got a VHS player, but would NEVERbin the VHS cassette tape. Means reverting to me. My father (a Rangers fsn) god rest his soul bought me it for my birthday back in 1988. RIP. DAD. C.

For the old gentleman at the end, he said he’d like us to do another 9 in a row. Well, that goal was achieved, sorry we couldn’t get the 10.

Offside is needed, but the current rule is broken. Should be onside if your back foot is on. none of this toe is offside crap.

Do you ever mention Hibernian in any of these videos? It's almost like youse try and pretend we don't exist 🤣 if it wasn't for hibs winning the scottish cup in 1887 celtic wouldn't exist.
Most Hibs fans forget Hibs exist unless it's a cup final. Celtic would still exist, it just might have taken a while longer to get going properly.
@VHS Football How would they exist without hibernian winning that scottish cup? It wouldn't have happened. I don't know how anyone of Irish Catholic descent can look at those two clubs histories and choose celtic 😂 james connolly was alive for 29 years after the foundation of celtic and he still chose hibs, that tells you all you need to know.
@@avemaria1097spoon burners
Of course James Connolly chose to support Hibernian over Celtic, Connolly was born and raised in Edinburgh, not Glasgow.
@@avemaria1097 they took inspiration from hibs, so they would have taken inspiration from somewhere else if hisb didnt exist. and yes, i know the history of players leaving hibs for celtic, so that tells you all you need to know. hibs should have been miles ahead of celtic having been founded 13 years earlier, yet celtic had four league titles and three scottish cups before hibs won their first league title. edinburgh isnt far behind glasgow in population, why is easter road empty most weeks? why cant hearts or hibs get 40+ thousand fans at home matches?
