Christmas is great in a falang (western) bar or restaurant. For Thais it is a normal working day. Calendar New year will be the main event. They also celebrate Lunar/Chinese New year in February and Thai New year (Songkran) in April
I been to thailand 15 times. I almost always take public transportation. It is part of the trip! I love the North Pattaya bus station. Sitting outside under cover and just watching and listening to the local things. Bus is cheap and reliable. I have a simple small soft carry on and I move around the country easily. Bus from Pattaya to the airport via Bell Bus service is great. Bus from Pattaya to ekami bus terminal in bangkok is easy. Then walk across the street to Ekami BTS station. Then the world of Bangkok is at your disposal by the large number of BTS stations and routes. even the rail link will get you to the airport if you are patient and plan ahead and leave plenty of time. Of course you can always hail a taxi as needed
@@welshwynhi 58age would like to retire in bang saray one day hope 8million baht and pension will be enough to live in Thailand from Scott new Zealand enjoy your video hope you make some more thank you
Great video Wyn with lots of info and advice. What’s not to like about the 99baht meal you had? What a bargain when compared to the UK! Good tip about getting bus to airport and train/BTS into centre from there.
It seems you are my go to guy now for finding meals in Pattaya when I get there in December. What I enjoyed when I lived there years ago was going to either the Lek Hotel on Second Road or the Lek Villa off Naklua Road for the breakfast buffets. Is it possible to make a video of breakfast buffets, best, cheapest, content etc or an email back telling me if anyone still does them. Enjoying keeping up and now going over previous videos.
You could add that catching the bus to Ekkamai because of the traffic in Bangkok, it is best to get off at Udom Suk and then catch the Skytrain into the centre. I did that years ago with my mates and they stayed on and I waited for them at Ekkamai Skytrain station and seven trains went past while waiting showing how much faster that was.
Such good advice about wearing shoes, last January walking by the Diana/Lengkee intersection a motorcycle guy jumped back with his steel toe cap boots straight on to my foot ripping clean out two of my toe nails, painful .
Another great video thanks Wyn. I arrive again on 1st October starting off in Chiang Mai then onto Jomtien. I will initially enter on the new 60 day exemption stamp. Do you, or your friends, know, for certain if it's possible to extend for 30 days at immigration please?
It's easiest to get an agent to do the extension. You may be lucky and get in/out in a morning but if you're unlucky it can take a whole day of frustration. It's worth paying the agent to remove that frustration IMO.
No I have changed bikes and cars reg in bangkok at chonburi car was reg in surin bike in bangkok, use one of the agents on the left as you go into the transport place, the seller has to sign a power of attorney form and there I'd photo, you also need the necessary paperwork etc, takes about 4 weeks cist around 5k bhat
If you are Farang you need a residence certificate also to transfer name in green book.a passport is not enough. Thai citizens can use their id card. If there is a debt on the bike then they would not have a green book as it’s kept by the dealer/finance company until the debt is settled
I agree I'd now get a 'Bolt' taxi from the bus terminal, but before Bolt you'd go to the guy organising the Baht Buses, tell him your hotel and they'd fill one (or more) bus to visit/drop-off at a few hotels. IIRC it cost about 70 Baht to Beach Rd Soi 8 in Dec 2019 (last time I used one)
You’re well worth a ‘Thumbs up’ Wyn. I’m not in Thailand and won;t be any time soon , but I enjoy your vids nonetheless. Is that little red sports bike I’ve seen a couple of times in your vids, your bike? Why wouldn’t you just buy a ‘twist and go’ scooter to get around on? No gear changing in the packed streets, would be a big plus , surely. Thanks for the vid.
If you're a biker, why would you buy a scooter.... (Slightly tongue in cheek comment). Scooters are good for local but if you want to get away from town then a motorbike is a better option for an experienced rider. I should add that Thailand (and every S.E.Asian country) isn't a good place for someone that's never ridden before to learn to ride a bike.
@welshwyn I would just ask to look at a room/apartment for a groupof friends. You can get camers clipped to your shirt .or find a real estate agent .I'm sure there are many in pattaya that would team up with you
