  • Scientists unravel the mysteries and misconceptions surrounding precious gemstones. Learn about the chemistry, physics, and geology of gems and crystals. Recorded in the Hall of Geology, Gems, and Minerals at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.
    The Ball State University Electronic Field Trips project presented a series of electronic, video, and interactive teaching resources for students building upon the field trip theme. The project provided students with an an "out of class" experience by creating television episodes, webisodes, web content, and lesson plans regarding the themes of each episode.
    At Ball State, the project served as a collaboration between the Teachers College, Teleplex, Emerging Technologies, and the Office of Information Technology. Episodes in the series ran from 1996 to 2009.

    You know.... If nature doesn't create Straight lines.... What explains the Almost perfect shapes that Gemstones and Minerals grown in?

    • @rockets4kids
      @rockets4kids 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, nature doesn't create *long* straight lines. It is the atomic structure of the mineral which determines the shape of the crystal. But you've probably already learned that by now.

    Heyyy I just thought of something ... Humans need some copper for good health. Could we have gotten sufficient copper just by handling copper pennies during our day? Because Canada has stopped the use of pennies. Our smallest denomination of coins is now the nickel. So does that mean every Canadian who doesn't take vitamin supplements is going to suffer whatever copper deficiency causes?

    • @michaelbauers8800
      @michaelbauers8800 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes it is, yep. Copper is really expensive though, so as far as I know, PVC pipes in homes are the standard now.

      No. You can't think of all Entities of any shape and form as you would think of us. Radiation is an energy, it may be negative at a high enough level but that is only for our Biology, for our Physical bodies.

    Organics grow from the inside, minerals add atoms from the outside upon their surface ...

    Students question: What determines the value of a jem? Teacher: What someone is willing to pay for it. WHAT?!!!!! The value of a jem is determined by it's purity, lack of fractures, transparency, size, intensity of color, so many things!!!

    • @rohitkhosla8110
      @rohitkhosla8110 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      in that case the price will never fluctuate. The teacher is absolutely correct.

      Yup just tried to sell my gold diamond ring... and no one wants the gem... only the gold... i was shocked... got it priced and valued and would only get a fraction of that "so called value"... invest in gold only. :D

      If every gem had perfect qualities you list the prices would plummet. Whatever is rare, will cost more. It's that simple.

  • @iskandarallayarov

    Earth 4.5 billion years old? How can you really know?Holy Bible says 6,000 years.I believe GOD
    over mans' speculations.

    • @joanip.7739

      Earth is billions of years old. If you read the Holy Bible in the second epistle of Peter, chapter 3, verse 5 Peter is talking about the first earth age in which we were all in our spiritual bodies until Satan drew 1/3 of God’s children to follow him. So instead of God destroying those children, we all have to be born in these flesh bodies without memory of the first earth age to make up our minds, do we love God or Satan. Gary, Time is so short before Satan will come in his spiritual body saying he is Christ and in the book of Revelation the whole world will worship him. Then 5 months later Jesus will come and in a blink of an eye, we will all be changed into our spiritual bodies for the 1000 years of teaching and that will consist of a whole lot of discipline. 5 years ago I caught the tv show Shepherd’s Chapel where they teach chapter by chapter, verse by verse. Also on you tube. They have a free disc called the mark of the beast for new students. Shipping free just call. I called out to the Lord please open my Eyes and ears so I can understand your word and know my purpose here on Earth and boy did he. If there is someone in their spiritual body in Jerusalem saying he is Christ pinch yourself and if your still here in the flesh he is anti-Christ. After 5 months May thru September the true Christ comes. There is no rapture too!!!

      Some schientists agree ...
      Many processes happining much faster than geologists say they do.
      And beside that is zircon a mineral that may occure very old but than again ...
      It could have a much faster process in wich it occure ...
      Who can tel it was a meteorite and slamed zircon into the mantle?

    • @denisbrummer9557
      @denisbrummer9557 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      God did not, but He wrote the ten commentments, that are stil in use today!
      God used people to write the rest of the bible ...
      Still got your blinkers on ...???
      There is judgement and a chance to avoid it!
      Therefore Jesus died ...
      Humans are to arogant thinking they know it all in a universe so young.
      God excists for triljons of years ... in matter of fact ... He created time itself!
      And space and matter ...
      So ... proof me how everything came into excistence!
      From nothing !!!
      Sorry for my poor english ... it is not my language ...
      Bless you Bob ...
      Oooh ... the greatest force in the universe is?

      Gary Klafta the fact that you were able to post such a moronic and ironic comment shows just how wrong you are. It’s moronic to dispute science while typing on a computer that’s beaming signals over the internet, and it’s ironic that you choose do disbelieve science and instead choose to believe in an all-powerful invisible being that loves you but will let you die of cancer. I’d rather listen to a scientist then some random guy named Gary who believes in magic and thinks the universe is only 6000 years old.
