- Just a brief jam... a classic song written and produced by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis that is 36 years old and counting. It features a duet with Alexander O'Neal. This song is always a lot of fun to hear or play. It's also fun to sing as long as you don't run out of breath (good luck).

An onboard chorus/exciter effect is used for the CP Grand voicing, and that's probably what you hear. The exciter brings out a certain brilliance. The Hybrid 2 voicing is used as another layer (shifted up one octave, the mod wheel tweaked slightly for vibrato) and the chorus/exciter effect is applied to that as well. Onboard plate reverb is used for both voicings. The GEM was always so easy and fun to work with.

Yeah I have a bunch of digital synths motif es6, Yamaha s90, couple of ensoniq and just got a Oberheim ob-x8 (my only analog) and I’ve been trying to find a good patch like that. I’m going to try to layer a Wurlitzer/rhodes patch and tweak with it a little with some of the settings like u said 👍 that GEM does look like a awesome well built synth!

You are able to recapture the magic of Jam/Lewis (the Lennon/McCartney of synth funk), Jackie Graham from UK had a sort of this airy dreamy sounds in his great solo record.

What's so wonderful about cover is you truly defined the melody in between the chords. Jam and Lewis' magic - they always have the perfect groove, and phrasing in the vocal over beautiful melody.
Of course, the funk (that bass, Terry Lewis is always the funk where Jam brings the jazz influence.
I think the original bass synth was played on an OB-8 because oscillator sounds different in the track.
It doesn't moan or whine like Minimoog would. Thank you for this. Well Done!

Thank you! A revealed secret: the snare sound isn't from the DR-660; it is actually an external sample triggered by the DR-660. All the other sounds (cymbals, hi-hat, clap, kick drum) do come from the DR-660 with some EQ used. Yes, some of these chords are identical to "The Finest." The prechorus chords are similar as well. If you know one, you could easily fake your way through the other. 😉
