- Rachel bought an apothecary table from Pottery Barn. Knowing that Phoebe hates Pottery Barn, Rachel lies about getting the table from the flee market. Just when Rachel thinks she is in the clear, Ross bought the same exact Pottery Barn table for his apartment and Rachel asks him to hide it from Phoebe before she comes over.

I never realised until years later that this entire episode was just an excuse for a 22 minute Pottery Barn product placement!
And they did it really well
but it is good product placement) Everything is product placement. if we consider product not just as a material thing, but like an idea, or maybe a pattern of behaviour that you should act in different situations. mostly every movie is a propaganda. it isn't mean that this is necessary a bad thing, but it is more a thought that you need know.

I remember not even knowing what Pottery Barn was when this aired. A few years later I bought something in their store and my addiction began. I just thought it was my style. Whatever that is. I kept getting compliments from everyone when they visited so I kept buying more. Now, it’s 20 years later and while I don’t shop there as much (occasional vase here and there) because I don’t have the room I still appreciate it. In fact, I still have things I bought that are still in the original box’s unopened. I’m not hoarder (I promise) but I just didn’t have the right place or wall space for them. Hopefully, in my new place I’ll use it all. I owe it all to Friends. LOL!!!!

Am I the only one that finds Rachel's reaction so endearing?
Phoebe is such a routine hypocrite lol. It is admittedly a nice approach, to try look for unique items over store bought copies but man, sometimes a table is just a table and sometimes you don't need to preach to your friends on how to spend their hard earned money in their free time and that's far too often what Phoebe does.
Also she doesn't like mass produced stuff but has CDs
@@austinclark6371 thats not even a fair comparison. CDs are mass produced yes but there isn't 1000 different versions/designs of an artist's album. Its literally what it is. You only have one (or sometimes 2 options if theres a limited edition release). For tables they come in all shapes sizes designs and makes. So she can choose whether or not she buys a mass produced design or a design that is antique / has a lot of history that makes it unique.
Also (this is in relation to the original post's comment) all the characters can be hypocritical at some point in the way the writers wrote them in later years but there is a difference here. Rachel and Phoebe are now living together. Its different if rachel has her own place and she can choose to buy whatever she wants. But now she's living in Phoebe's apartment. Yes its a bit unfair that she preaches quite hard to Rachel about whats 'acceptable' for their new apartment it's still within her right to complain about something she feels strongly against.
Phoebe probably wouldn’t have said anything if it was in Monica’s apartment. But the coffee table was in Phoebe’s and Rachel’s shared apartment so roommates tend to consult each other on shared furniture.

This is one of the reason i really don't like Phoebe. Oh she doesn't like something so none of her friends gets to have it. Yeah it's in her apartment aswell. But unless the company fucking slaughtered her family for generations, that shit is just insane
No. She would have a problem with the one rachel got cuz it is in her apartment. Ross only had to hide his cuz rachel lied about hers being one of a kind. If she saw ross' she would have asked where it came from and if Ross said pottery barn she would know rachel lied to her. Phoebe has never once made any comments about where her friends buy their things. Phoebe, just personally, does not like mass produced things and wouldnt like it in her place. But she really did like the table, so later when she found out, she still wanted to keep the coffee table and even all the other furniture rachel bought and lied about. So phoebe actually lightened up a bit about it in the end.

Even though this show was about 6 friends and all were seen equally, i think Phoebe is the least important character out of all. I mean every other character can pull up stuffs for their own but her role is just not that good enough. Most of the time it's over the top acting. David and Mathew Perry were the best actors out of the 6

Plus if u look at the careers and lives of other characters in the show, u can totally see how things turned up for each of them but Phoebe's life has always been somewhat of a mystery which most people never cared about.
You should watche the video of "The Take" about Pheobe. They described her character very well.
