I love that the other bot's spinner creates enough gyroscopic force to hold it in basically any position it lands in. That thing is wild, and I can't believe they managed to kill it. Just amazing.
This is hilarious. First time I've seen a drill be that effective in robot combat, though it actually makes perfect sense. A good tungsten bit turning 2000 RPM should go right through a thin top plate like you'd find on most 3-pounders.
Yeah but then you have to hit something important with that drill bit, which is only a few mm wide. more viable for the smaller bot's since they tend to be crammed full and don't have much depth so the drill can likely reach the bottom. Still i like to see more weapons other than spinners and flippers.
I would assume that most or all of these robots are built with mild steel. You wouldn't even need tungsten for that, though it would reduce the number of drill bits you went through, I guess.

@@huntercook6605 I don't watch the show myself, but I'm pretty sure that the matches are balanced by weight. So you can have two robots fighting one robot so long as they each weigh half as much as the single robot they're fighting.
Drill bots are brilliant for these weight classes, usually all their electronics are densely packed into the chassis. There's a high chance it could hit an esc, or two wires causing a short, or it could hit the jackpot with the lithium batteries, which oddly enough is atleast 30-50% the bots mass.

This is such a great example of what’s cool about this show. There’s a million ways to approach a problem, with lots of tradeoffs. I never would have thought of making a drilling robot, and I love that these guys did.
The arena must be air tight. If it wasn't then it'd poison the entire room. Either they go in with gas masks to clean it up, or they just wait for the smoke to dissipate.

I'd be lying if I said the idea of a drillbot like this hadn't been bouncing around in my head for decades. It's a solid weapon concept if applied right... like they did here.
This drill arm is more practical than a saw blade arm. The saw blade arm can usually do it quite a bit of damage, but arms usually get taken out quite a bit and he says unlike a drill that only has to drill a small hole and hope it hit something important and even if it doesn't, it could basically do the thing several times before the arm breaks. The saw blade usually does a bit of damage before breaking the arm

Nah, in my bot the batt is only 70g, so that's only 5 percent of the robot's total mass (1500g)
