    The fact that the ThermoJoe doesn't require an app is a huge win in my opinion. Smart devices that require apps require you to be completely dependant on the manufacturer. Apps break, they can get outdated or completely abandoned. Phones have constantly changing software that may not work with the app anymore. It's one thing to have a smart device with app support but it should always have the ability to be manually controlled.

      The Ember doesn't require an app once it's set up. And if you never set it up, it will use a default temp so it should be useful if the company goes under and whatever

    I wonder if the temps they're aiming for with the ThermoJoe are with the lid on? that'd keep the heat for longer and possibly make it easier on the battery. it'd be a sneaky thing to do if that is the case, but I guess it's possible.

      I was just going to mention this. I use a cold metal dunkin cup and the ice will stay frozen 24 hours if I have the lid on, without the lid, the ice melts in about 8 hours. Using it with hot drinks has a similar result, it stays hotter much longer with the lid on.

    • @youshimimi
      @youshimimi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They should have made that clear in the instructions and on the package then.
      If the product only works properly with an optional feature then the feature is not optional. That may be a deal breaker for people who want to drink normally and not hassle with the lid all the time.

    I got the Ember mug on sale at Costco. sure it's a premium item but damn is it my favorite thing to use every morning.
    I like to sip my coffee at the "perfect" temperature and I usually take an hour or so as I'm on my laptop doing work and sometimes forget about it!
    it's basically the best investment if you're at all invested into premium coffee products because drinking your premium coffee at the wrong temperature kills the flavor!

    One thing I always wonder about James's reviews: is there (or is anyone willing to make) a spreadsheet of all reviewed items? I think it would be great for those moments where you're thinking of buying something but are not sure if it was already reviewed and where (since not all reviewed items have their own titled video and some appear with several others on "weird kitchen gadgets" videos). It would also be great to have links to their reappearances on other videos (such as the Ember Mug on this one) or when they were featured on a "1 year later" video.

      I bought my Zoji 5 years ago ... it's not quite as good as it was new, but I used it every day for my office coffee. I took public transit in Boston, and it sure was nice during my afternoon commute to sip a warm drink while waiting for my connecting bus ... this was the coffee I poured at 9:00 that morning.
      Summer was even better. I'd fill it with ice water for my hot humid commute home, and the next morning, it would still have ice in it.
      It's a fantastic travel mug, but I like something a bit more elegant if I'm at my home work desk. So I bought an OHOM combo mug warner / wireless phone charger.Not cheap, and for desk use only, but very handsome!

      @@LeesReviews69 even a coffee addiction you would not need this type of cup, i get the hype you can drink slowly on a cold day but it really is just a gimmick and if that makes you happy then fine 🙂

    The point of the mugs is to ensure your drink maintains the same temperature from the first sip to the last, not slowing the rate of heat loss. An insulated thermos is not in the same product category.

    It's very interesting. The mugs are essentially exactly the same in regards to their overall ability to heat liquids.
    At 4:53 you mention that the ember had been off for over 20 minutes, and the ThermoJoe was off for over 10 minutes, and yet they showed the exact same temperature, showing that the mugs put the exact same amount of energy (heat) into the liquids over the course of depleting the battery - just at different rates.
    I bet if you were to take apart each mug, you'd find the same exact battery capacity for the mugs.

    Great review! Long time viewer, I always love watching your videos. But, I do have some minor feedback regarding the metric-system conversion. To name a few things, you said 15.7 and 14.9 ounces, but people that don't live in America most likely have no idea how heavy that is. I really appreciate the Celsius notes in there so I don't have to pause the video and look up what it is in Celsius. However, I think there is still a bit of improvement to be made, like showing it longer on screen and being more consistent with adding these notes. It would be better if you put the converted value in screen all the time whenever the Fahrenheit temperature is visible, instead of 1 second when you say it out loud, for example at 3:11 for example. Conversions are also missing at 3:39 4:51 8:10.

    What's the point of keeping such a small amount of coffee warm u would drink it before it got cold. For any larger amounts just get a 30 dollar thermos mug that can also hold 4 to 5 cups of coffee.

  • @diegoscartor
    @diegoscartor 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Just buy a thermos. You pay 10 times less and keeps your coffee hot for the exact same amount of time (maybe a bit more with a good thermos that still costs like 8 times less) and has double the capacity as well. This product is a scam tbh.

    I purchased two of these mid September. I was so excited and charged them that night. Next morning neither one would power up. I tried different outlets, different charging cords, and contacting the company. No success. 3 attempts at contacting the company, and I have received no response. I have disputed the charge with my bank.

    I’d much rather have these mugs take room temperature beverage and heat it up, but they can’t do that. It’s something about the battery that’s the issue.

    ember looks better, cleaner, the app and having a net temperature to select and that being accurate is just way cleaner way better. A year later still accurate and battery lasts long. I hate lids as well so another L for thermo joe. and who cannot finish a drink in 80 minutes? cmon thats more than enough. 130 is a bit steep for me but if I wanted to buy one I'd 100% go with ember
