i have a 5100. its a nice a radio. only thing I dont like is the fan is rather loud everytime u transmit. even with the base unit in the corner of the room, its a little annoying sometimes. other than, its awesome :) enjoy!

I notice that as well, but if there was a mic connection on the remote head we could have it in another room, hihi. 73 Pascal VA2PV

Interesting that they would not include a mobile mounting bracket. New trend or oversite? Has some amazing capabilites though. Can't weight to see more about it!

Sean Murphy yeah Icom has driven right of the rails with bad displays and optional equipment, my last icom was the 92ad the display wss so poor that it sat in my shack doing nothing , last year wss thd first yime i saw a radio worth buying , yep bought the kenwood .

I don't understand Icom using those unsharp, monochrome displays. The IC-7000 had a beautiful color screen; why would they go back to the 1970s? Even the 706 screen is better than this. Expensive mounts etc, now accessories?

Have you tried programming the ICOM 5100 radio using an SD card?

Hi Ken, it's been awhile but I think I could without any problem. Unfortunately I do not have the radio anymore. 73 Pascal VA2PV
