@michael_weer *SPOILERS* This one is so clever it uses pattern recognition against you. M. Night should watch this one to remember how to pull that off properly. It's made for diehard fans, down to the Tarantino style of chapters. I was making bad guesses. One of which was the couple worked together and fell out in between, but it went even more surprising.
**Major Spoilers in this comment** And sorry for the long comment! I’m going to respectfully disagree with your take (and it seems like most other people’s takes as well) on this movie. For me, it was mediocre at best. It wasn’t a super bad movie, but it wasn’t a good one either. Firstly, I realized the woman was the actual serial killer too early in the movie. As soon as she asked the Demon man in the car if he was a serial killer, I had strong suspicions she was the serial killer. I think part of the reason why I thought this though was because everyone was saying there’s a huge twist in the movie, so I was almost hyper focused on looking for the twist, and what’s a more obvious foreshadowing of a twist than the woman, who is the actual serial killer, asking the man if he’s the serial killer. The moments immediately following the choking scene in bed, right after she said “Mr. Snuffleupagus,” confirmed my suspicion. She was the “strange darling,” and the strange darling is the serial killer. Secondly, I agree with your positive point that the acting of the two main characters was great, but the rest of the cast I think was not good. The police officers were the worst part of the film in my opinion. The acting felt so inauthentic to me. It looked like they were reading from a script. Their lines were also not very believable, and all their actions were very unrealistic and incompetent. The very first thing you do at a crime scene is secure the scene. They just went right in there. Also, every police officer should check someone for weapons before they put them in the back of the police car, no matter if they are victim or perpetrator. The nurses’ acting wasn’t very believable as well, but it didn’t bother me as much as the police officers did, mostly because their appearance was relatively short. Lastly, there were some other major scenes that bothered me quite a bit. The end of the scene in the house where she was cuffed to the freezer I thought was not good. The way the Demon guy moved over towards her after he got bear spray in the face was ridiculous. He practically threw himself into her arms right after she blinded him with the bear spray. She was handcuffed to the freezer - all he had to do was sit back and let the cops show up. Instead, he got his neck bitten and bled out. The very end scene was not great either. How was that woman driving the truck able to take her gun out in time to shoot the lady? It was as if she immediately knew the lady was the serial killer.
I appreciate the longer comment! I see where you’re coming from and had I heard there was a massive twist it’s very possible I could have had the same issues with the film. As it was the trailer didn’t give away much and I went in expecting that the movie would be a social commentary on the power dynamic between men and women. And while it sort of was it really went in a direction that I didn’t expect. I wasn’t mad at the acting but that might be because my brain has learned to expect subpar acting in low budget horror flicks these days. Plus the male cop at the end was Hank’s partner in Breaking Bad so it was cool seeing him get some work again. As for the end I’ve never been sprayed with Bear spray so I can’t tell you my immediate reaction but I agree with you stepping back would have made the most logical sense 😂. I give the lady in the truck a little bit of a pass because she watched her fidget with her jacket for a while before she actually pulled the gun out. I felt the woman driving the truck had enough time to watch her draw and ended up pulling her gun first. I see where you’re coming from tho. This is one that perhaps on a rewatch won’t hold up as well due the insane nature of the twist and the twist being the only real hook of the film.
Wow. This one I just saw and it's top 5 easily. You can't describe it without hurting the experience. Definitely worth checking out.
100% 2024 is hitting hard in the back half of the year!

@A_TH-cam_Commenter yes exactly! I thought the same thing. Was ultimately glad where everyone ended up but loved what they did.
