The peak of pc gaming, when games wern't dumbed down for consoles. Nearly non existant environmental damage in new games, basic physics, blurred textures and prebaked lighting. How we have fallen.
Can't blame them. AMD dropped the ball on their cpu line that forced them to use a laptop cpu for the current gen consoles. Sony and Microsoft can't use Intel and Nvidia for how overpriced they were their cpu and gpus even for the quality they have in mind, or they have bad experience with them as of late for some reason. Funny enough microsoft started with nvidia then later sony and now Nintendo. And if history repeats itself Nintendo might ditch them for some reason.

But its sad that due to mostly profits and sales developers need to cater to consoles as they are the majority (dont get me wrong i love consoles) but theres no longer any games that really push the hardware. We might get games that struggle to run at 4k above 60fps if you max the settings but we no longer have that whole "can it run crysis" deal where peoples current hardware at the time could barely run it at an acceptable framerate. The games features like physics etc are still being limited. After the og crysis came out i thought that in 10+ years time at least all games would have fully destructible environments rather than some better reflective lighting. Yes modern games may look nicer on the surface but theyre the same environmental gameplay that we had years ago. Even if you look at how well the ai was in F.E.A.R at the time, how have we not dramatically improved on that. Instead we end up with remakes or dodgy ports or games that dont even run right from the get go without a day1 patch.
@@cmelft2463 Yeah, it's a shame we don't see huge changes like that. Plus the age of Early Access even ruin and creep into games that do have a budget. Only some games are able to manage such quality, and are pretty rare. PC exclusive games are on the rise though. Especially when they push boundries that console can't even fathom to achieve (Some games like Star Citizen that requires to have SSD as the minimum for example). But just like Crysis, those games are rare. But there are still there, just need to look closely. Unless you decice to go into VR, which is pretty much where you can find Physics heavy games like Boneworks.
6:03 I love the detail put into the development goal of achieving photorealism in 2007! Crytek single handedly pushed realtime graphics ahead by several years further than the hardware of the day was capable of.
Such a great game & looks great to this day I often go back to play through it, way ahead of it's time & playable @ 60fps on modern PC's highly recommend it!
greatest multi player experience ever. No hand holding and epic battles. crysis wars was pretty good but the graphics were turned down. They should have not removed the wall jumping bug.

Man a mix between Crysis 1, Far Cry1 PC/Xbox and FC2 mixed with some Dead Island would be the new GOTY Banger!
