This may sound frivolous, but years ago when we had a camp deep in the woods isolated from others I would play classical music loudly throughout the camp. This symphony was so profoundly beautiful in the forest that even the birds stopped to listen.
It is perhaps sad that he never had a more substantial popular 'hit', like The Lark Ascending, or The Enigma Variations since he was no inferior to his more well known pupils which, only Jerusalem aside, is how history now has him cast.

Oh my lord. The harmonisation of that second movement. Listening to it on phone speakers is good enough!
Yes but imagine how much better it would sound on an actual speaker of even a pair of earphones

Of Parry's 5 symphonies my favourite is the 4th, but all are fine pieces.

It's a pleasant symphony but I like the first 2 better, not to mention the compelling, beautiful 5th. The 5 could use a tral scherzo for its 4rd mvt.
