back then when developers had more freedom. GvGNP animations were more fighting game aesthetic rather than mechanical gundam aesthetic. GvEX MBON are good dont get me wrong but damn do i miss these so much they feel like they make a bigger impact over the kinda cold animations of MBON
This game deserves an HD re release, I played the shit out of this on my PSP and still boot it up now and again, one of my favs for sure, the moves were indeed dope and I actually prefer a lot of suits in here over their EXVS/MBON versions.
All the Gundam VS series in a way deserve an HD release, there is still players for Renpou vs ZEON DX, Z Gundam DX, Rengou vs ZAFT II and this one. A compilation, just the way they are, doesn't matter, with a LAN option and online would be a blast in all honesty.

While I admire the Extreme Series' commitment to "canon" moves and details, sometimes to a ridiculous degree, I also enjoy seeing these moves where suits are used to their theoretical limit. Wing Gundam in particular seems great at showing the agility/thrust vectoring potential of the suit itself (even though the show tended to focus more on its overall speed and firepower) enough to perform a spinning bird kick at around 1:46 !
This wonderful parts of this game are: (1) the feeling of really hitting something in melee attack, especially for God Gundam's punching. (2) The color tone resembles the anime more, and more steel-like (later gundam games look more and more plastic-like) (3) the move sets are more realistic, and you need to press really fast to create a stylish combo. All in all, GVG NP gives you an immersive feeling of being the real 'driver' (definitely not a good term) of a gundam.
one of my favorite things about this game is how the god slash is actually god gundam’s main, and it doesn’t have a limited ammo so you can spam it to no end
I mean units that doesn't have shield can't guard in GvGNP (that includes the Char's Zaku II/Zaku II Kai despite having shoulder shield in their model) Hyaku-Shiki having a melee counter seems sensible
Im happy to see this game getting some more atention, i absolutely love its animations, not only the melee ones, theres lots of little references from the anime there, it shows the devs had a lot of care for this game. I wish it had a community, thats one game i would absolutely play competitive, im still playing it to this day but dont have a lot of people to go against :p
Yeah they retained some of these animatons, but the camera work go crazy too I personally love the Exia tatsus the most, I was sad its no longer in EXVS Exia, but 007S has it instead, and it looks just as cool its as if 007S inherited PSP Exia's soul
Everyone had cool moves because the Team that made these games were former capcom devs. Their last VS game was Full Boost and from Maxi Boost onwards is made by Bamco in house devs VSTG. This is probably why the game hasn't moved on from EXVS and why Maxi Boost/MBON wasn't ported to the PS3

GvGN+ doesn't explain melee combos clearly but there are certain attack chains that you can do by inputting direction with melee or pressing Square (Main weapon) button in case of Epyon a lot of his melee combos involves spamming directional buttons as well, maybe there's a GameFAQs guide somewhere on a list of combos

i think as long as you keep pushing left or right while slashing, the attack combo will never end for the epyon. up or down is where the combo ends. along the way, if you push the special attack button for epyon to unleash the whip, he will perform a special attack combo. epyon is the strongest melee gundam in the game
I played the game a lot during my childhood and I mastered most of the MS in GvGN+ but surely Epyon is the only one I'm not good with at all. Even to this day how to pull his combo still haunts me, especially that downward spinning slash, never in my life ever pulled that one off. Heck even I managed to do perfect combo with Unicorn but not with Epyon.

Nobody ever made a guide for combos in this game properly. The only source for the combo list is over 150 pages in length. And the only suit i can play porperly is the Heavyarms. Others, i just mash main, sub and bc to win

The g4/6bb can be followed with charge 1 2b, then you can ND into your favorite finisher. My favorite Nu melee route.

you tend to be above the ground just by boosting around. there's a reason they got rid of it all in the later games. it just didn't really make sense.
