  • Try this 6.9-km out-and-back trail near Kananaskis Improvement, Alberta. Generally considered a challenging route, it takes an average of 4 h 2 min to complete. This is a very popular area for hiking, snowshoeing, and running, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are June through October. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.
From the King Creek parking lot, the trail is reached by going back down the road and taking the trail that goes parallel to the highway on the right. After entering the forest the ascent up the to the ridge begins. The trail to the ridge is very steep and loose dirt and rocks on the path add to the difficulty. Wearing proper hiking shoes or trail running shoes is recommended.
The end of the ascent arrives at a false summit on the ridge. The actual summit is further along the ridge and is marked by a waypoint. Due to the constant freezing and melting conditions in winter and the shoulder seasons, the main trail is VERY icy. Completing this trail in any season aside from summer is dangerous, and extreme caution should be taken.
