I Went To My First Ever Barrel Race!

- We got to go to our first barrel race ever!
I've never ran Jinx on barrels before because the paddock still hasn't dried up yet. We got exhibitions and my plan was to just see her style of barrels and sort of figure her out but at the second barrel she had a different idea. 🤣🤣 I didn't ask her to canter 😆
My first run I made on her was beautiful! She's lightning fast! We can improve on our turns, speed and straight lines a lot as well. 😍
Our pole bending run was okay. Since with her old owners she never did poles and I have only practised the pattern with her like 3 times so she doesn't know the pattern yet. So we ran really fast in and then had a beautiful first turn and her lead change was on point but then I think she was thinking of the last barrel so then we didn't turn the rest 😆 I brought her back down to trot to finish it off. Still super proud of how we did!
Our last barrel run was really nice as well! I'm really happy with how we did especially getting a 20 on our first barrel run ever!

Some friendly advice, you need to slow down until you have the turns mastered. All your horse is thinking about is running, she seems to have good potential though. Good luck!
Yeah I know. It was just my first run on her ever. I’m working on my turns at walk and trot. 😁

Where do you nominate for barrel racing? I wanna get into it but I can’t find where I can find them. Like with SJ and Interschool it’s on Nominate and Equipe but where is it for Barrels?
Like do you mean a barrel race? If you mean how do you find a barrel race near you, we had visited this one as a spectator twice before actually taking our horses. We just knew that this one was here.

Funnn! I just took my filly to her first barrel race and she did great! I mostly just went to desensitize her to the crowds and the mass of horses and stuff, but she did great! Especially for a first time. You did amazing!
Yeah it’s an awesome way to desensitise horses, heaps to look at. We could definitely notice a difference between our 16 year old pony an Jinx 😂 Jinx didn’t spook at all she was just exited.

As a barrel racer i am just trying to help you but if you want you want to do good barrel racing buy a finished older horse like 17 or 20 yr old horse that can teach you a lot of the aspects of barrel racing i just started barrel racing again and my horse is 20 yrs old ( he is also my ranching horse) and he has taught me a lot about barrel racing. I am happy you are making progress!

@@TrinketCowgirl I think Jinx is the perfect horse for what you’re wanting to do. She gives you speed but you can tell you still have control around the barrels and there will definitely be room for more speed in the future!
