- An R rating was just one of the filmmaker's big asks to Warner Bros., but while he's pleased with the outcome, don't expect his next "Guardians of the Galaxy" film to also get the same adult-skewing stamp.

I love that Gunn's first instinct in adaptating Polkadot Man was "Haunted". Just immediately takes his goofy pick and makes him a total trauma case.
gunn had childhood trauma too, hence his connection to these characters with dad/mom issues.

This revelation about Weasel is amazing. It's so true. If a guy like Weasel lived in the neighborhood, you know anything creepy that happened would get pinned on him.
I’m not gonna lie I kind of believe Weasel did and didn’t do it he seems kind of too innocent in a sense to just attack children like that but also I mean he’s a savage fucking animal so who knows 😂😂

I'm 45. James Gunn creates films that make me feel like I did when reading the best comics I could find when I was around 10-14: jokes, tears, action, and a rollercoaster of human emotions most films these days don't even get close to. Salute!

James Gunn is the definition of a blockbuster movie director
This guy is an absolute master of cinematic entertainment! I can see why he got offended when Scorsese said comic book movies aren't movies. Gunn is a terrific film-maker and artist - and you just CAN'T deny that. His work speaks for itself.

I have so much respect for this man. Just amazing work, to be honest i was expecting a carbon copy of guardian of the galaxy but i was so wrong. This is the best superhero group movie to date in my opinion.
What he has done so far is incredible. The guardian films and now this. Probably the best CBMs of all time along with some others but the fact that he made all three of them. Legendary
He should make a Lobo movie!
I think Taika mightve been up for King Shark or The Thinker. Those seem like roles up his alley.

i'm almost positive that the Taika role that didn't work out was for Javelin. it feels almost written for him.

@@jontoven2467 honestly partly because it was a comedic German role, which, coming off of Jojo Rabbit, would have been the perfect role to write for Taika, plus as a character Javelin carried himself and acted A LOT like most of Taikas performances tend too, including the dialogue he was given. Out of everyone on the team, if you had to pinpoint one character who seems to fit Taikas M.O., it would be him.
Everyone is saying Taika's other role is king shark or javelin but personally I think it was playing starro. he would have absolutely nailed his final line about just wanting to float in space and stare at the stars.
Hated the 2016 film, LOVED this one definitely the best DC film since The Dark Knight

Couldn't watch it in cinemas because of the lockdowns. Hope WB will release the movie again in cinemas after the pandemic. I know we all would've already watched it on HBO streaming before that, but I still feel like this movie has more to offer in the big screens. I'd pay to experience that in the big screens.
Great movie. It's sad that it didn't make that much money. I think people were confused and thought it was the same one they had already seen.

I think he said that Akira first got greenlit and then was cancelled (probably because Akira would need a pretty big budget and at the same time has fairly niche target audience)

In the 80s R rated meant nudity and violence.Now it's just violence.When your movie has a scene in a stripclub and the strippers keep their clothes on,either cut the scene or show them naked(it's a stripclub not a church)

James Gunn has made 3 great superhero movies now. Like that’s fucking cool dude. I wanna say that there’s only 2 other directors on the planet with that kind of track record, Anthony and Joe Russo (I don’t count Nolan’s Batman movies as superhero flicks)

But I don’t consider them really superhero movies, for one no one has superpowers and for another they’re too distinct from most other movies, given their themes of organized crime, corruption and terrorism, they’re more crime movies than superhero movies.

Later the X-Men movies were frustrating for me...but largely they were better than they had the right to be--as the production for the movies had unexplained and infrequent quality control issues...and inconsistent casting...and/or featured characters. Further, they never gave us an X-Men that look like the actual X-Men--not really??? Prior...I saw "Blade", which showed great promise. Meanwhile, before and during this time...as well as after...Warner Brothers save for the original "Superman" film...kept producing bad superhero films--thus undermining DC's advantage in the marketplace over Marvel. That said, to this day...the best overall superhero film (based upon a comic book)...is neither a Marvel or DC film. What is that movie? "The Rocketeer". The 2nd best superhero film...is not based upon a comic book...nor is it recognized as a superhero film. It's called "Untamed Heart". As per Marvel and Warner Brothers/DC's competition for film franchise supremacy...Marvel had a good run of it (of its officially produced films)...with the occasional good film amid multiple throwaway or barely passible films. "Infinity War" and "Endgame"...were sloppy films...and prior..."The Avengers: Age of Ultron" was the beginning of subpar Marvel movies. The Avengers 2...should have featured the Avengers versus the Cabal. To this date, "Captain America: Winter Soldier" and Captain America: The First Avenger" are the best 2 Marvel films. The only hole for Winter Soldier, is that they should have brought back Red Skull as the main villain. "The Avengers" is still Marvel's best superhero team film. Back to DC, their 2 best films after Superman are "V for Vendetta" and "The Watchmen".

@@joaofernandes2827 the budget was $185 million which you double for marketing. The film has made $140,761,901 (Worldwide) That's not a success. Third week in theaters and you haven't made the $185 million back yet. Hbomax has the movie free to watch, so that does not bring more money in for the film. Maybe people have brought HBOmax just to see the film, but all information that is available says that Mortal Kombat and Godzilla vs Kong did better streaming numbers on the platform. Thus for, this movie is a failure for WarnerBrothers much like Birds of Prey.
