A great example of how a simple fault can be easily diagnosed and repaired with sufficient skill. Thanks for another entertaining and informative video!
Well, I know how that damage happened to my Thump.....I dropped it while setting up for a gig. It had fallen before with no issue. But this time...well. I watched this video while trying to figure why it wouldn't come on after the accident and saw the same diode damage shown here. Thank you for this video.
I enjoy seeing switchmode supply repairs, that is something I need to learn more about. Good to see you in front of the camera too. This was a nice and clear repair video.
Maybe the failure was caused by vibrational flexing of the circuit board in response to speaker output and it's simply a fatigue failure? It looks as if there is room along that edge of the board for an additional mounting hole, and I'd be inclined to add one, if possible. Nice video, thanks.
Great vid. Love watching your repairs. You really got lucky on this one. I would love to see the face of the guy that sold these to you after seeing it only cost 87 cents to repair.
Bought a new 2018 Mackie Thump 12A 1300 watt for a personal vocal monitor to hear my self more clearly and most of all more loudly. Already running 1200 watt peavey amp into 2 peavy passive 15 inch speakers. Its level has been loud enough for years but i knew I needed to hear myself better to perform better and avoid vocal fatigue. Its not loud enough and disappears as soon as we start playing. Tried different cables, dynamic and live condenser mics etc. Mic gain and mon both up at 90% then starts feeding back at 100. Sounds ok when no one else is playing. Plays music from phone or ipad much louder than singing. Were not crazy loud either. Loud but not intrusively or out of the ordinary for a rock band. This thing would be great for kareoke or an acoustic quieter band but not for rock music. Talked to several techs who were all confused from different companies. Finally received a replacement and its exactly the same. 1300 watts should be blowing my hair back. Is one powered wedge usually good enough or do you absolutely need 2? Never had many problems on stage hearing myself on 1 of the houses though they were not self powered. We have an old powered old JBL 500 watt or or something that's around 30% louder and lower watts. Anyone else experience this with Mackie or any other mfgs? Is this normal? Thanks!
Again, a very interesting video! I love your videos. Especially those where you repair speakers and PA gear. Would it be possible for you, making a video in which you show your PA equipement (speakers, mixers,...)? I think that would be very interesting! Greetings from Germany :)
And now we know what you look like! Nice fix...hate dealing with thermal compound, nitrile gloves make it much cleaner to work with. Thanks for sharing, great video as usual!
Very good video! Thanks, was very helpfull. Got the same problem on a TH-12A. The boards were also taged TH-15... So... Guess that's the way the are made.
Where did you happen to find the schematic to the 15a because that is what I have and I'm having the same issue you are having sort of. Mine has to do with the over load continues to come on after powering up and a lot of folks have pointed to the q104 transistor and the capacitor. Any feed back you could share would be great and if you let me know your find on the schematic. By the way great video. Need more valuable videos like yours and valuable people like you in this world. Thanks again.
Hi! I got this speaker. Power supply is fine. I got problem with signal. I hardly hear sound, I have to turn volume at 100% to hear only little bit and I think I hear only highs... Any idea where to look? :)
Hello, it is nice video on PA speaker issue diagnosis. Question - I have a mackie Thump12a speaker. When connect to music source, there a very feeble high frequency music heard from twitter but the woofer doesn’t sound. But observed that momentarily the sounds right for a second from woofer and goes back to feeble sound. This happens couple of times in first 2-3 minutes. I feel it could some kind of protection override. Any suggestions?
Man! You would be really handy to have when one runs into technical problems! I currently took apart my mackie 12 and it seems like the coil is bad. Ongoing......
So the usual cause of that high freq clicking is a lack of feedback huh? That'll probably help me solve an old shelved power supply issue.. Thanks for the videos :)
Excellent troubleshooting. I have a Thump 12 that will turn on, pass through audio to another speaker l, but will not produce audio itself. The power light continuously flashes green. Issue just manifested out of nowhere.
great vid!!! my mackie TH-15A hisses, any ideals? power supply? looked at the board nothing out of order on inspection. dont have a meter to run test atm...
Plz help .. my speaker kept the OD at all times and it was playing fine until i played some music real loud because i was having some cerveisas and then i couldn’t raise the volume no more .. what can i do .. should i buy a new one .. any advice
Hello There Sir. I watched your video and quite interesting, because I have the same speaker, it turns on ok but no sound comming out of the speaker... the voltages are OK in both power supply board connectors out (CON3 +28V/GND/-28V and also Ok in the the other Connector out - low voltages). Of course everything is well connected, woofer is ok, but no sound on the 12'' drive or in the HF Tweeter... Any ideia of what could be wrong or what (and how) can I check to see if i can pinpoint the problem? Kind Regards
I have a thump 15a and It works perfect for as long as it is on. Then If I turn off and want to turn on to use right away it won't work for a few days. Then try again and it does work perfectly. Switch, cord, speakers are fine. I was wondering what component could cause that ? Would you gimme an idea where to look at ? Thanks Favio
I have a Thump 12 1000w V3 Amplifier module sir. Can I use this for Thump 15 1000w V3 . Or do I need to change some thing in the pre amp circuit to match the Thump 15. Please advise .
Hi I have a proel 12ha , there is sound coming from the speaker , but it is quiet and tinny with no bass at all , I'm not very good at testing what could be , do you haev any ideas as to what it could be ie point me in a rough direction , many thanks
Hello .i could use a little info. if you have it i have its a little diff/ . but the same band 15inch makie when it powers on. it pops and there is no other sound only the pop turning it on. if you can help that would be great thanks
Hello, I have a qsc k12 speaker but for some reason I am not getting any input sound when I connect the input line. The speaker does turn on, well atleast the lights and fan do lol. Do you all think the problem might be the input Jack's or could it be many different things?
Hello thx for ur video... would you mind to give me a help?? bcos my th12a hv a problem..it would be power on ..but no sound..but still can line out to other one speaker is work..so wt the problem of it?? Sorry for bothering you..and. hope you have a nice day
Hi Alexander, nice to see you. 👍 Thanks for sharing this OT: By the way, what’s up with your kx ltz1000 reference? Is it working as expected? I build some other, px from cellularmitosis, that’s work fine and simple. Some pictures there in eevblog in the px reference thread from March 08, im hwj-d. Love your videos. :)
Hello Mate, I have a Mackie SMR 650 active speaker it stopped working on my gig. The fuse hasn't blown. I opened it and checked it. Today I took it to a friend and we tested it out, no power. we opened it and disconnected the circuits from both boards and turned the amp on and left it for 2 minutes and turned it off. I reconnected both the boards and there was a spark. The amp turned ON. I tested it 4 times and it worked. I screwed it back in only the 3 screws from the back. It stopped working. can some one help me. I have an open circuit please helo
Hi I have the same problem with my mackie TH-15A unit. After seeing your video I opened the board, I can hear the clicking sound but no power indicator on. I checked the legs of the items that you have replaced, but its legs looks fine. Can you help me pls.
I bet this is a vibration problem due to high volume and frequencies. It probably create tensions just there. I see no other reason to broke 2 pin in a row.
From mackie.com -> support -> schematics (it redirects to a different site) -> loudspeakers -> thump series -> TH-12A supportloudtech.netx.net/loud-public/#category/11348
+-30V for these speakers. It's a joke. Mackie, your old devices have been much better designed. These look like crappy Chinese karaoke systems inside. The PCB quality is awful
N-audio - Like everyone else they’re jumping on the Class D bandwagon. It saves them money at the expense of quality. When the output chip fails, it’s a whole new pcb from Mackie. I guess any old cheap class D module from China could be grafted in at a pinch, it’s not like it could be much worse!
A great example of how a simple fault can be easily diagnosed and repaired with sufficient skill. Thanks for another entertaining and informative video!

We are so lucky to find such nice videos like yours when need on youtube. God bless you!
You're such a great narrator.
Repair well done, as usual.
Lovely when it's just a broken leg. Great videos, keep them coming.
You make repairs so easy my mother wants to try it. *Cheers*
Let her :)
Thank you my friend ! Great Job, Congratulations!
As always great job, I always get excited when I see you have a video posted. Thanks for Sharing.
Love this guy.

oldblokeh in addition, maybe it is stressed when bolting the diode to the heatsink during assembly time.
I would guess the speaker was dropped, and the board flexed due to massive transformer.
Great vid. Love watching your repairs. You really got lucky on this one. I would love to see the face of the guy that sold these to you after seeing it only cost 87 cents to repair.
jp040759 YES!!!!!😂😂😂😂
I have a pair I would sell if you wanna try this lol

I have something moving around inside my Mackie, thanks for the video..will send an update to what it was that's inside..thanks again
Hello, same here! Incredible! Thank you for your video.
I had a pair. Broke in 2 months.Never again. Have a pair of Yamaha msr400 15 years still going strong.

Didn't we already know, with the fancy photo of himself in his user profile? His name is Alexander. :)
Yeah, I knew that but it's always a bit more revealing in a video! ;-)
Very good video! Thanks, was very helpfull. Got the same problem on a TH-12A. The boards were also taged TH-15... So... Guess that's the way the are made.
I'm not happy with my Mackie thrash speakers, you are far more knowledgeable than me. What can I do to improve?
Nice repair! It was a joy.
Awesome video.. i own the same pair of speakers and they work but i saved your video in case I need it in the future. Thanks!

Great video & excellent education.

Love your video, hope I can also buy so many cheap stuff like you and repair them.

Voice coil in the woofer? Here is my video about that: th-cam.com/video/KyfoScucfcQ/w-d-xo.html
Nice video as usual.
Good job on the repair. Tanks for making these videos
So the usual cause of that high freq clicking is a lack of feedback huh? That'll probably help me solve an old shelved power supply issue..
Thanks for the videos :)
It's one of them. A shorted rectifier or load is also likely, or a bad startup capacitor, among other things.
Thanks for sharing. Hope to see more videos soon : )
Excellent troubleshooting. I have a Thump 12 that will turn on, pass through audio to another speaker l, but will not produce audio itself. The power light continuously flashes green. Issue just manifested out of nowhere.
hello , have you find why the power light flashes green ?
great vid!!! my mackie TH-15A hisses, any ideals? power supply? looked at the board nothing out of order on inspection. dont have a meter to run test atm...
Is a coincidence I bought one on EBay
With the same problem wish I find out visually..
Nice speaker I wish I could find and buy a second one:)

Like all your videos very useful and do you sell or donate some of your works like speakers
Hello would you share the scheme please? I am trying to fix mine .
Great looking speakers, bit of a mystery as to how the diode was damaged, did you have any thoughts ?
Thank you!
Great help

Do you have any experience in fixing a Mackie SRM 450 ? It stopped playing and now will not turn on.
Mine powers up but sounds like an AM radio interference ,the sound is not crisp,Please help me diagnose and fix
Hi Alexander, nice to see you. 👍
Thanks for sharing this

By the way, what’s up with your kx ltz1000 reference? Is it working as expected?
I build some other, px from cellularmitosis, that’s work fine and simple.
Some pictures there in eevblog in the px reference thread from March 08, im hwj-d.
Love your videos. :)
The reference is doing great, but I don't monitor it as much as I thought I would. Too many projects. Thanks!

Mechanical stress / carelessness at the assembly, plus vibration from the woofer may have done this.
Hi I have the same problem with my mackie TH-15A unit. After seeing your video I opened the board, I can hear the clicking sound but no power indicator on. I checked the legs of the items that you have replaced, but its legs looks fine. Can you help me pls.
Why are you saying it is the same problem? It superficially looks similar, but must be a different problem.
@@feedback-loop It is true, same problem I mean it is not power on. could you please repair it for me? What is your price range? I am in UK
I bet this is a vibration problem due to high volume and frequencies. It probably create tensions just there. I see no other reason to broke 2 pin in a row.
Awesome man, thanks for the video... 👍👍👍👍👍
Great vid!
